  1. Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to undergo another procedure involving his heart. Thur. doctors will go in and remove fluid from around his heart and remove some scar tissue from his lungs. I guess he consumed one to many McDonalds big macs. BTW He is not missing the chance to get in one golf game on Wed. before going under the knife. Your thoughts.

    LOL-who cares? :p

    Seriously

Got way more important things to worry about than this.....but it still isn't nice to joke about someone's medical troubles, like them or not ;)

  2. My only neighbor for 10 years was an elderly lady who always watched out for my place. I never had the first problem with anyone messing around up there when we were working or out doing other things. In the beginning when I was young and dumb, I thought it was a real pain to have her always watching the goings on at my house, but it didn't take long for me to realize that she paid real close attention to who came and went (much to my ex-husband's dismay-before he was an ex, of course~ ha!). She also jumped his a$$ when he pruned the old trees in the front yard at the wrong time of year, or parked on the grass til he killed huge sections of it....among other things. It's funny, when the only person nearby was a lady in her late 80s, and then even after she became too ill to stay at home alone and had to move away, I felt more secure than after they built a subdivision right behind me with all those houses. I guess it's the difference between knowing who's there (or isn't) and not having a clue who might be living so close by or having the occupants of the neighborhood subject to change at any time. When we first moved to that area 16 years ago, the neighborhood was one big merger of two families; everyone there was related either by blood or marriage, and we bought a home that had previously been owned and occupied by yet another family member, and which shares a common driveway with the house where this lady that I speak of lived. We let her continue using the entrance of the driveway, which was on our side of the line, to get to her carport, and she was nice enough to give us permission to let our back fence run over onto her land so that we could have a somewhat symetrically-shaped fenced-in back yard. Fortunately, the folks there made us feel welcome and a part of the community, if not family, and we realized that we could have easily been excluded and treated as outsiders who didn't belong and weren't wanted there. So I guess the answer to the question is yes, when I had a neighbor to be friendly with, I was, and still am with the folks I know who still live around me, every chance I get. They've been just great to live amongst, and if I ever needed anything, I have no doubt they would help me in any way possible, without hesitation, as I would them.

By the way, this lady who was my neighbor passed away a couple months ago. Even though she's been gone from her home for five years or more, and I knew that she probably would never live in her house again, it's still very sad to know now that she won't ever be back at all. She was a good neighbor and a nice lady and I miss her. She was always one who would swap whatever vegetables the other of us didn't grow that year, and every year she gave me several jars of preserves she made from the pears I gave her off my big pear tree...and to be honest, looking back, now I see that she hardly ever asked us for anything at all, despite always keeping an eye out and giving us any extra of whatever she might have had.

  3. Chelle, it looks like your husband and his brothers were PROFILED by that officer. PCSO did the same thing to my 20 yr old  a few weeks ago. She was in her car, b/f sitting next to her and his 7 yr old in the backseat. She had a taillight out and he stopped her BUTTT, not only did he ask her for her ID, he also asked her b/f for his and wanted to know WHO he was to her, and WHO the kid in the car was.

7 years old huh? And how old was/is the boyfriend?

    FROM WWW.DICTIONARY.COM

    1 entry found for JUSTIFYING.

    jus·ti·fy    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (jst-f)

    v. jus·ti·fied, jus·ti·fy·ing, jus·ti·fies

    v. tr.

To demonstrate or prove to be just, right, or valid: justified each budgetary expense as necessary; anger that is justified by the circumstances.

To declare free of blame; absolve.

To free (a human) of the guilt and penalty attached to grievous sin. Used of God.

    Law.

To demonstrate sufficient legal reason for (an action taken).

To prove to be qualified as a bondsman.

Printing. To adjust the spacing within (lines in a document, for example), so that the lines end evenly at a straight margin.

So it was NOT mispelled! ;)

And with the word right there in front of you, this was just lame. The word used wasn't justified or justifies, it was justifying, and it WAS misspelled.

Is this how you people boost your self-esteem? Or do you just do this for kicks? So he discloses some personal information...where is it written that you have to pick every bit of it apart, or as in this case, question him for more and THEN pick it apart and then blame him for telling it? I seriously doubt that every one of you could undergo such close scrutiny without having some previously unknown (and unflattering, if not downright embarrassing) detail about you or some member of your family disclosed. I had actually regretted the last time I did this, but honestly, this is just disgusting, and for all your calls for folks to grow up, some of you should take a minute to follow your own advice.

    **No spell check used :D :p **

  4. Possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony IS a felony charge - a serious felony charge - in addition to the charge(s) for the felony/ies you committed. Probably has some affect on the mandatory minimum sentence allowed in a drug case, or maybe even gets a life sentence in that instance.

I do know that possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony is sufficient to pull prison time in and of itself.

  5. Neat, I guess, if you have some legitimate need for it....heck, I still push a lawn mower to cut my grass. A people-propelled mower, at that.

Funny, all these people studying the obesity problem in America, and it's right under their noses. While I agree that technology and engineering have made many jobs easier and more productive, and can be very handy, my personal opinion is that we're relying on them for too many things that we can and should do ourselves.

I think "use it or lose it" sums it up nicely.

  6. Didn't read all the posts, cause I don't have time, but someone definitely missed my point. I could care less about the tv/dvd player...it was the unnecessarily unkind way some folks were replying to her request.

I think the remarks about how interesting and entertaining some found the whole exchange clarify my comments better than anything I could say at this point.

Not to say that being a Christian exempts a person from having uncharitable thoughts and feelings, but if you profess your faith publically, it would probably be a good idea to show some restraint and not gleefully participate in something so mean-spirited. You never know when someone might notice that your walk doesn't exactly line up with your talk. Just so happens I did notice. After one person, I forget the name now, somewhat tactfully pointed out that it was inappropriate, every comment after that seemed to just be attacking the girl, and she was simply asking for something for her children. Not exactly justification to treat her cruelly, in my opinion.

What I said with regard to "you Christians" <<--your words, not mine - is no different than the condescending remarks some feel justified to make toward Chris and Rebelchick and her sister. If they made themselves fair game for your attacks by giving their "personal information" here, then you opened yourself up to mine by calling yourself a Christian and then behaving as anything but. I saw someplace that at least one person was offended who wasn't even involved in the original thread, and cannot begin to say what is up with that.

It's things like this that cause folks like me to stop attending church. The place is so full of people nowadays, there seems to be no room for God.

  7. I'm going to go out on a limb here and disagree with these folks on how openly you go about this, simply because of the recent killings involving the stuff. Antagonizing a drug dealer has the potential to turn into a bad situation, antagonizing a dealer who is high on meth could be downright dangerous for several different reasons. Ever spent any time with someone who's smoked up on that stuff and hasn't slept for several days? Now add to the threat of going to jail and the penalties they face when they get busted, and that's the reason I think it would be wise to use some caution here

  8. Nanny,

I also have DirectTV it works without the landline in your home! The reason  that you plug your landline into your receive is to collect information on what you watch and also for you to order PPV movies. Other then those two reasons you do not have to have the landline. As far as the computer situation I for one do not have one at my house (everyone breath, it is ok not to have one at your house) I use the one at work when I need it and then I use the one at the local Library. We do not need the computer very much only for research and paying a few bills online other then that we do not use the computer. I love going to the library, my kids work on the computer and I get some quite time. I love it. It works for us!

haha! Nicely said....and I'll bet your kids appreciate the time they do get to use the computers more than those who have one at their disposal 24/7. Yes?

I have a computer at home but for the past 6 months it won't connect to the internet, and I can't determine the reason. Now I'm wondering exactly where I found the time for it before...

  9. roo is not tranquil when reading this..

    this is cold, but....

what a waste of lifeflight time and resources for mr dui....if it wouldn't endanger others they should have put him back in his jeep to drive to the hospital  - as best he could

Cold? Not really. Would have been no danger to anyone else if they had taken him straight to jail, though...let the coward suffer-after all, he didn't seem to mind making that other man and his family suffer, did he?

As it stands, we get to foot the bill for yet another jerk to take a long vacation and will probably get stuck with at least part of his medical expenses to boot. In some situations I think we might see justice better served if we stand by and let events run their course without intervening.

  10. Had some trouble picking just one for this guy.....so I thought I'd stick to the premise and leave the politics for another time:

I would have to ask the questioner. I haven't had a chance to ask the questioners the question they've been questioning.

-- President George W Bush, Austin, Texas, Jan. 8, 2001

    B)

  11. Sorry to get back on to the original question, but we have had foreign citizens prosecuted here in Paulding, they serve their time, then they get deported.  If they are found in the country after having been deported, they will be committing a crime by simply being here.

These guys should do their prison time first, and it should be in federal court - there is little to no parole in the federal system.

Aren't illegals ALREADY breaking the law by simply being in the country?

Every single day you read in the paper how the government is looking for ways to allow undocumented immigrants to remain in the country without the threat of deportation (and receive services funded by our tax dollars, to boot) in order to provide a source of labor for businesses with jobs that Americans are 'unavailable' to fill (gotta love the way they play with words). Most people know that a large percentage of illegal immigrants are involved in the supply/distribution of this drug in a major way. Seems to me there is something wrong with that whole picture, judging from that very same government's "massive effort" to halt the spread and resulting misery and destruction of this drug. How can they hope to stop a problem they themselves are helping to create?

There are many more, but this is just one clear example of how horribly broken our system is, the blatant abuse of power exercised by our elected officials, and why we pay such a large percentage of our hard earned money and receive nothing but ineffective, inefficient if not downright incompetent and/or corrupt leadership. The threat to our way of life doesn't come from outside, it's being done, with our approval, by the very folks we pay to lead our country. I'm not old enough to have first hand knowledge of the initial plan, but I don't think it's working the way it was intended. Not at all. Yes, I'm finished, and yes, I do feel better now. 'Night.

  12. I live approximately 15 minutes from the airport at Cartersville, and have had numerous planes come over my house at very low altitudes over the past 15 years. It's unnerving to have planes at those altitudes flying over your home for extended periods of time, especially when you have no way of knowing whether the plane is in the control of a skilled, experienced pilot, a student pilot, or a reckless idiot.

My neighbor's wife and kids were in the store parking lot and were killed in that crash in 1977. No matter the cause, you are literally defenseless in that situation. As horrible as it was for the people on the plane, they at least understood the risk when they chose to fly. Not so for folks going about their lives on the ground. I lived about a mile away and was home alone when the crash occurred. I was 12 years old and it horrified me. To this date, I have never flown and have no intention of doing so, though I didn't go so far as to take up residence in a cave, either. ;) I'm sure the experience affects my feelings about having an airport even closer to me than the one at Cartersville-how could it not?

The closest airport at that time was 35 miles away, yes, and to my knowledge that is the only crash of a commercial jetliner in Paulding County during my lifetime. Now, I don't know for sure, but I suspect the number of crashes in the past 40 years occurring within a 35 mile radius of any one of the smaller airports mentioned here is higher than that. Anyone know for sure?

  13. We had a rabid raccoon staggering around at 2 pm on a Saturday at our house about 8 years ago. Took three shots with a shotgun to kill it. Only rabid animal I've ever seen and I'm fine if it's the only one I ever DO see.

Needless to say that put a stop to my staying out in the vegetable garden from the time I got home from work til it was too dark to see....

By the way, anytime you see a predominantly nocturnal animal in broad daylight, you should consider the possibility that it may be rabid. Even more so if it seems unfazed by human activity.

  14. A pickup truck is stopped in Coptown. The truck (Ford) has a tag on the truck that returns to an Isuzu. The driver and passenger state that the truck was purchased from an upstanding citizen and his father.

Since the tag does not return to this truck I check the VIN. Problem is there aint one.

When I notify the driver of this problem the driver says (why, that aint no problem Officer....I got one right here) and proceeds to pull one out of his pocket.

    LOL!!

    Surely not---

I can't remember time when I didn't know that VIN plates were supposed to be attached to vehicles. Maybe he got ripped on the truck but carrying VIN plates in his pocket? Either a grade A certified dumba$$ or really good at faking it. Sheesh.

  15. Go through a days topics on Paulding.com. Just go and pick a 24 hour period of time and read every topic.

    Take a close look.

There will ALWAYS be 4, 5, 6 or more topics bashing our various coun ty and city government workers for things totally out of their direct control, or that they have to make a decision based on what is best, and the most practical and economical for the greatest number of citizens, or for something they have nothing at all to do with.

I was speaking with some very dedicated county workers yesterday, from several different departments.  Some of these people I personnally know very well. And I know they put in 45, 50, or 60 hours a week, for a job that does not pay THAT well, and where they receive no overtime pay or even a pat on the back for that "extra-effort".

But they love Paulding County, and they work very, very hard to make it a better place to live, for us and for them.

I asked about publicising some various upcoming activities on Paulding.com - and I got the evil eye from just about all of them.

One of them, an individual who I think the world of, turned to me and said the county workers have almost all quit going on to Paulding.com because they only see and read negatives and cannot deal with the unnecessary bashing of county workers who do not deserve either!

They ALL commended the Chairman for his thick skin and his ability to take the punches, duck, shake them off, and come back for more, on P.com;  but they ALL re-iterated how it upset them too much to come on line and be an active part and seeing their co-workers and themselves being bashed for no good reason by ignorant people who only want to sit back, armchair quaterback and complain.

So I decided to go back and review a couple of weeks of P.com's topics and posts, and I came to the realization they are right.

For every post that gives a kudo, or a pat on the back to a county worker  [bOE worker, or a DOT, Department of Public Safety, Parks & Recreation, the Commission itself, Planning and Zoning, the IBA, the Chamber, Airport authority, and so on and so on]; there will be 5 or 6 or more bashing them, accusing them of fowl play, outright stealing, or just generally tearing them down because they are there.

    Why is this ?

I am very involved with many of our local governmental/community offices and groups, and I have found them to be, for the most part, a very concerned and caring bunch of people who do what they do becasue it is the right thing to do.  And then they take flack for it from an unappreciative public.

Now I do see, and understand why they are negative to P.com, and if P.com is to survive and play a vital role in the community for the long term, I think many of our posters need to put themselves into the shoes and chairs of the people they complain so loudly about.

Take the time instead to tell them what a wonderful job they are doing and how we appreciate their efforts.

And instead of bashing and ranting against them...how about asking what you can do to help ? :)

    LOL

I'm guessing that you don't have a problem with government-sponsored, paid advertisements masquerading as legitimate, unbiased newscasts, either.

Besides, have you never avoided a bad experience or handled a situation in a different manner because someone else warned you after they had their own bad experience or gave you advice after they learned the hard way? That's why most folks want accurate, complete and unbiased information. It's so much more helpful than squashing one point of view and promoting the other.

If you still feel compelled to boost someone's ego and shower them with praise for earning their pay, I'm available most days after 9 am

  16. I have a dog that runs off as soon as he's let out to take care of business, myself. Even when I do find him, he's almost impossible to catch and bring home, and then he mopes around so that you'd think his world was coming to an end. His former owner had a house full of children (5) and I could tell when I brought him home that he missed them terribly. I think he goes off in search of kids and other dogs to play with, since I don't have any children and my other dog only tolerates his puppy playfulness for short periods of time.

The dogs in our neighborhood bark intermittently anyway, regardless of whether my dog is home or not, as they did when I kept my previous dogs fenced in the backyard. I wonder what it is about these two troublemakers that prompts the otherwise well-behaved dogs in your neighborhood to make so much racket?
