  1. With these bad economic times and our County having to cut back, maybe our BOC or other government organization come up with a volunteer progarm that will cut the cost. One idea would form "Friends of" organizations that help at public parks and playgrounds. Like "Friends of Mt. Tabor Park". Families who participate there could help cleaning and upkeep under the supervision and direction from one County employee. Not that anyone wants to see someone loose their job but it would help our County for a while. People could volunteer at the library. Now we see County trustees or people doing community service but they can do only so much. Maybe the Sheriff could form a volunteer group to help monitor places like Silver Comet Trail after some training but no authority to arrest. But knowing there are people out there to help protect you helps and prevents crime. Atlanta has some sort of these people to help visitors and local. By the way, is it legal to carry a weapon on the Trail if you have a license? The possibilities are endless. We use a lot of County services but we could help until things get better if ever.

  2. This new law is another example of how our liberal government is "taking care of us". They think we are so stupid and they must protect us from ourselves. The gov't. has taken away more and more of our rights in the name of "protection". The best thing that could happen is we vote out the idiots who are running the ship. Look at the economic mess we are in now. Who caused it? Our congress makes the laws. Where is the sanity. They all act like they are holy-than-thou and it is THEIR money they are spending. Why hasn't there been a big push on putting higher taxes on alcohol? Why is there not more medical call for what alcohol does to you and it's dangers like there is for smoking? It's because most of our congress members are lushes and boozers. Does Ted Kennedy smoke? NO. Does Ted Kennedy drink? BOOZER!

  3. I tip according to the service. If it is real good and the server is attentive but not annoying I tip 20%. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Three of my children worked in the resturant business and one was a chef so I know they don't get much unless it's tips........except fo the chef. I have seen people tip 10% or less which sucks.

  4. Our County will be making progress this year. It will be a positive change. David will keep us informed and, along with the other BOC, will do what's right for the County to grow. They have a lot to do to regroup the administration but we all must be positive and do our share to support the BOC and make sure they know our concerns are followed within reason. I'm very optimistic about our new County administration.

  5.

I will be 60 in Feb and there are older members. ;)

Not me! I feel like I am 30. But then again some days I feel my age but not often. And you know that JJ. It's how old you feel and act that matters. Some people in their 30's act like they are 60.

You have to grow older and be responsible but you don't have to grow up. Ask my wife and she will tell you. Can't wait to get out of puberty.

  6. Alabama right now is getting beat 21 - 3 (7:02 remaining 1st half). The Tide is playing terribly. Not the same Tide I know. Their defensive backs are playing zone and Utah is getting all the passes. The execute with speed. Utah's defensive line is awesome. They are pushing 'Bama's offense all over the field. Utah is sacking Wilson numerous times. I hope the real Tide comes out the second half.

  7. i think "this boy is right" and thsi "this boy ain't right" is the same person.

i think tbar is debating himself again!

I caught that also. TBAR's comments are different from the thread about the muslim woman and the head scarf in court. I thought for sure when I opened this thread that TBAR would be hollering violation of separation of church and state. Maybe TBAR has been converted or is turning over a new leaf.

  8. While Israel is at it they should bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran is furnishing missles and weapons to the hezbalah (sp?). Once they get the bomb they said they would use it to wipe Israel off the map. Former U N ambassador Bolton said the same thing. Most of Iran doesn't want a war but since they let the fanatics run the country they have no choice. Hit the nuclear sites and the presidents home. That should be a wake up call. Still believe Bush's original plan was to liberate Iraq, then Syria and then Iran to change their governments.

  9. This is an excert from the rules of the Eleventh Circuit Court in Illinois:

    2. All persons entering a courtroom shall remove their coat or outerwear and hat or headgear. The only exception to this requirement is listed in item E(2) below. E. Religious and/or Sacred Headgear 1. All persons entering any court facility in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit are subject to search as defined by the policies and procedures of the Sheriff of said county. All persons entering may be required to remove any and all headgear if security measures require such action. Any persons claiming exemption to the search policies due to religious beliefs or requirements shall be allowed to remove the item and/or be searched in a private area, under the direct supervision of courthouse screening personnel or Sheriff’s court security detail.

These rules are not put in place just for decorum. This is the proper way to handle the matter in my opinion.

Oh, excuse me. I thought we were in Georgia. I don't think the Eleventh Circuit Court in Illinois comes into play.

  10. But she has the =right= to be there no matter what. She did not have to send her husband; she could go if she wanted to. It is her =right= to be chose to go. You have the right to go to the courtroom too, even if it is just to watch for heck of it.

Does this mean that muslims have a right to stop all court proceedings at their prayer time? Is the judge required, because of their religious beliefs, to provide a prayer rug and a place to wash their feet. TBAR you are going WAY overboard on your statements. In the end the judge will be admonished, go through sensitivity training and probably will have to apologize to the woman. But guess whatelse? The muslims will have won another battle. They are infringing on our society and making efforts to honor their religion over everyone elses. WAKEUP people. It's not just religious freedom it's the muslim religion being forced on us and, in order to be PC, our courts, public administrations and other powers in control are allowing it. We are on the verge of being in deep do-do because of it.

Keep up the ranting TBAR. You are so amusing. Some idiots, no disrespect pubby, believe you but there are more people with logic and understanding of our constitutional rights. I guess your mother didn't cuddle you enough when you were a baby so you take out your frustations on us. As I said, keep up the ranting. It makes my day. Always good for a laugh.

  11. The judge had the same rules for everyone? So he let those whose religion doesn't require headscarfs alone, but required this lady who does have a religious conviction be forced to leave the courtroom.

How is that the same application if one set gets to follow their religious convictions but another group does not?

The Constitution protects the free exercise. By not letting her wear the scarf, he is relegating her faith to 2nd class status & endorsing faiths that dont' require headscarfs.

Wait a minute. You are contradicting yourself and the organization you support. Also a lot of post you have made on other threads.

Separation of church and state, right. All the judge ws doing was making sure everyone was treated equally and that this was a government function and not a religious function. The woman was trying to force her religious beliefs on everyone else which is what you are against. I think the judge should have the woman apologize to everyone in the courtroom. Can I wear a hat to court with "I love Jesus" embroidered on it because that's my religious belief? No. So why should she be allowed to wear her religious scarf? You, and others, need to realize that the muslims are starting to FORCE their religion on us with the religious freedom remarks and dress. Just watch how this mushrooms even more because you, and other zealots, scream and holler religious discrimination. STOP THE MADNESS!

  12. Apologies are overrated. Especially if forced. I do not see the point in forcing the judge to apologize. It detracts from the actual issue and makes it personal.

Kind of reminds me of the NAACP wanting apologies from Southern states for their ancesters being slaves. First it wasn't our generation. Second that is how life and society was back then and not now. Lastly if they want an apology they should ask African countries for an apology. They were the ones that sold them into slavery.

  13. I was in a dicussion with a neighbor about the lottery and a tax issue came up. He said he checks each year to see what percentage of lottery money is used on education and then he deducts that percent of his lottery loosings on his taxes as a donation. I asked who did his taxes and he said he did................go figure. Or his case don't figure. I tried to explain that he can deduct his loses up to his winning but not more. He said he heard it on tv and that one of the part time tax people (small companies and not Block) said it was legal. Do you do this?

  14. We leave the outside decorations up until the 12th day of Christmas or Epiphany when the last wise came came to give gifts to Jesus. Of course that's what Christmas is all about isn't it. However we do start taking down inside decor next Saturday. My wife enjoys the lights and decor. We started putting it up inside the Saturday before Thanksgiving and outside the day after Thanksgiving. We have two trees and two manger scenes (palor & den). Alomost every room has some decor including 1/2 bath. Stairs have a Santa on each step. Guess who has to put most of it up?

Hey, I may have solved the problem. Just leave the outside decor up all year and every Sunday turn them on. I could tell the HOA it's our religion.

  15. What's the big deal. They had Christmas items out at halloween. They are just trying to get the jump and get some of that Christmas money people got. It's call capitalism and free enterprise. Their stock is still strong. Good management and not like the big 3 auto mfgrs. Rule one in business - if you can't compete you fail. That's why the big 3 should file bankruptcy, get rid of upper management, make the greedy auto unions take concessions and then produce affordable autos. Hope GM doesn't fail. I have three of their products and looking forward to purchasing the new hybrid GMC Denali in 2010.

  16. NO!

Look at California's finances since he took over. It is in the dump and he wants a bailout. Keep him in California with all the trail mixers (fruits and nuts).

Constitution shouldn't be changed. If it was some idiots would try to get Bin Laden to run.

  17. First thing after removing linoleum is to check floor level. You may have to add leveler - mix like thin set. To resolve height of backer board and tile you have to have a tile threshold at the door. Do a dry fit with piece of backer board and tile to determine cut on molding at doors. Tile should go under for professional look. Don't have to remove baseboard because you put back or add 1/4 round. May have to cut door down. Recommend use 1/2" cement backer board. You can use heavy duty adhesive (tube not can) but also screw it down. You can also use adhesive to put in tiles if you don't want to mess with thinset. Use liberally and best to use spacers (depends on tile-to-tile distance you want). Start on straightist wall so when you walk in it won't look crocked. Cut tiles around cabinets. After grouting and it has been set, use sealer on joints because in bathroom. Check height at toilet to see if you need extender. Most times all you need is wax ring with flange which goes in toilet floor hole first. Be sure when you put toilet down to push and twist so wax will seal properly.

If all else fails, go to Home Depot and purchase a book on tiling or hire someone to do it. Not hard to do but need tile saw, nibbler, spacers, screws, adhesive or thinset, etc.

    Good luck.

  18. I walked portions of the new Admin Building yesterday. Workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. It might last 100 years after 99-3/4 of repairs due to construction flaws. Missing expansion joints, expansion joints already falling apart. Concrete walls cracking due to missing, failing and misplaced expansion joints. Poor quality concrete finishes. Next time I see David Austin I will volunteer to serve on the punch out team for free. They rushed to have the promised ribbon cutting before Jerry left office (see this weeks Paulding.com News interview) and these rushes will result in long term maintenance cost.

I too volunteer to do the punch list. And you are right that they pushed the opening for ex-king Jerry. The courthouse belongs to the County and it should be constructed with no major repairs for years. Considering who managed the construction and where political contributions from that company went are you surprised there are problems with the quality? The County should refuse final acceptance until these items are fixed and not at a cost to the County. Maybe ex-king Jerry should take some of his political contributions to foot the cost.
