  1. Things, good or bad, usually happen in threes. It looks like you have past the hump.

I was down and told to cheer up that things could be worse. I cheered up and sure enough, things got worse.

seriously, in hard times just remember God loves you and won't let you fail. You may think you are alone but a simple prayer and a positive attitude, which you have, will make things work for you. Think about others who have lost everything wether by fire, total financial collapse or a family member. Your life is way better than theirs and, yes, life will get better. When I see or hear of people suffering such as a homeless person/family I think but by the grace of God go I. Trust in the Lord, put a smile on your face. Been there, done that...........many times and it just keeps getting better. Peace.

  2. I emailed our state reps and Maxwell is the only one who responded with a personal phone call. I was out and he left a message saying the budget is still in the works.

I also emailed Purdue but he didn't respond to my question. He is going out of office and is worth millions so what does he care.

PLEASE everyone contact your state reps and send a email to Purdue expressing your displeasure.

I hope they don't put that rail system that goes around Atlanta (only serves a small number of people) on the budget and kill the property tax exemption (benefits ALL Ga. property owners).

  3. The county owns the land and found a lot of boulders They are removing gravel for roads, etc. It actually saves us taxpayers money. A senior center/home will be built in time. There is an agreement with Walmart that the land will not be used to have any business that would compete with Walmart. Shearin mentioned the gravel deal at one of the BOC meetings.

  4. WOW. it's amazing how these people reacted. Not counting the sharpness and quick thinking of the pilot, the people who responded after the crash was awesome. Makes you proud to be an American and to have so many dedicated people. Divine intervention for sure.

  5. What is the law in Georgia about wills being signed or notorized? Can you just have two people witness your signature and then file in at the clerk of court. Or can you just take it to the clerk of court and have them notorize your signature and then file?

  6. GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS

Grands is building another store on Old Cartersville Road. Also will be other store spaces.

They will serve food like the one at Macland and Bobo. Good country ham biscuits and one of the only places you can get fried chicken livers.

    Wha Hoooooooooooo!

    Something positive about Paulding businesses.

  7. I just sent email the Govenor after I read that $6 million for lawmakers pet projects are still in the budget. This is assinine. I think if they keep in the 6 mil we should go after every lawmaker who got funds especially if in Paulding. I know we need the airport terminal but in the long run we will suffer. There are more seniors in the state since Ga. is becoming a senior retirement state. lawmakers should use common sense (excuse the pun) when setting the budget. With revenues down spending should be down. Hold off on pet projects until the eonomy gets better. I also am going to send an email to our lawmakers. Where in Paulding will the soup lines form?

  8. THE GEOGRAPHY OF A WOMAN

Between 18 and 22, a woman is like Africa, half discovered, half wild, fertile

    and naturally beautiful!

Between 23 and 30, a woman is like Europe, well developed and open to trade,

    especially for someone with cash.

Between 31 and 35, a woman is like Spain, very hot, relaxed and convinced of

    her own beauty.

Between 36 and 40, a woman is like Greece, gently aging but still a warm and

    desirable place to visit.

Between 41 and 50, a woman is like Great Britain, with a glorious and all

    conquering past.

Between 51 and 60, a woman is like Israel, has been through war and

doesn't make the same mistakes twice, takes care of business.

Between 61 and 70, a woman is like Canada, self-preserving but open to meeting

    new people.

After 70, she becomes like Tibet , wildly beautiful, with a mysterious past and the

wisdom of the ages...only those with an adventurous spirit and a thirst for

    spiritual knowledge visit there.

    THE GEOGRAPHY OF A MAN

Between 14 and 70, a man is like Iran, ruled by nuts....

Hey, watch it. You might hurt my feelings.

  9. My sister was the Dare officer for a neighboring county for several years-and I can't say that its the Dare programs fault kids turn to drugs...I seen alot of things she did behind the scenes. A true DARE program is a good program and worthy of a contribution, however, like with anything others try to copy and give things a bad name.

This is true. When they started hounding me I said "Oh DARE, That's Drugs Are Recreational Entertainment isn't it?". They just looked at me and walked away. I'd gladly give to PC DARE if I knew they would get the funds.

  10. Do you think Paulding County should get an ordinance passed like Kennesaw that requires every home ownwer must have a gun in their home? It might cut down on people breaking in homes and cars. I heard about a store that had a sign that said:

"2 days a week the store is protected by a vicious dog and 2 nights by a gun happy guard. You guess which nights."

Now that might make a burglar think twice. but then again maybe not because most are just stupid.

  11. We had the same thing happen on our GMC SUV. It seems when I got in I mashed the gas pedal a couple of times when I turned on the ignition. I let it sit for baout five minutes and tried again and it cranked up. Never happened again. Did you mash the gas when you got in with the ignition on before turning the engine over?

If you still have problems call Chris at World Class Auto. He knows GM cars and will do you right.

  12. Have you thought about going to Charleston instead of Savannah? Downtown is like going back in time with all the modern conveniences. Market place has great shops, great resturants and friendly people. City buses can take you to all locations downtown. Go to Middleton or Magnolia Plantation or Cypress Gardens, take a carriage ride, visit Ft. Sumter, see the ships at Patriots point (Yorktown carrier), visit the aquarium, eat at Gilligans, Shim Creek Bar & Grille, 82 Queen, Hymans, plus so much more. We lived and worked there for 28+ years (actualy Summervile 24 miles up I-26) and each year played tourist and stayed downtown. Great time to go is spring - all the flowers. We go around valintines each year to the Southeast Wildlife Expo (on line) and look at the top wildlife artist and do outdoor events (free bus rides to events all weekend). Friday night Jan. 13th is the Ducks Unlimited oyster roast. All the oyster you want, open bar and auction to help wildlife preserves, etc.

Don't get me wrong about Savannah. We have been there several times even when we lived in Charleston area. It's been a while but we really did enjoyed it especially Rivers Street. Is the Pirate's House still in business? Both cities are a lot a like but the streets in Savannah are layed out better.

  14. I think that people are just being good neighbors.

A guy's house burns down. He didn't have insurance. His neighbors get together to help him rebuild his home and his life. He stays in the community and is able to keep his job there and support the other community businesses with both his tax dollars and his purchases in the community.

A member of the community refuses to help, citing the unfairness to those who paid insurance premiums. There's a point to be made, but who is keeping score?

It's called, "compassion". There's no need to play the part of the ultimate arbiter of fairness by criticizing people who are just being good neighbors, or by criticizing the person who is going through a time of need.

OK, I agree we need to be compassionate. You want a worthwhile compasionate raffle for someone who needs it and doesn't have a business where he can make money? This individual/family has suffered a lose of a loved one. He would never ask for a handout. The family got burned out....twice. The individual is very smart but humble. I have helped a little in the past but I am retired and doing a small business to make extra income in a slow market which is not much. I wish I could do more. I don't want to put the families name here but I think Pubby knows who I mean. If ever there were a need this is it. If I had work I would hire this person in a heart beat. Very talented in his profession as well as other areas and a great individual. PM me if you want his name.

  15. WAIT A MINUTE!

I know I will be slammed but I am going to say it.

I have eaten there and the food is good but..............................

If you run a business you should make sure you have the funds to operate it or go to the bank, relatives or your own savings/401 to finance it. Or get a small business loan. It's called free enterprise. Since when do we start a benefit so someone who owns a business can end up making a personal profit? If you donated are you getting a beer at a cut rate price based on how much you gave? How many of you gave money/handouts to other businesses that were on the verge of failing in Paulding? Or is it "Hey, I like to drink at this place so I'll pay for your liquor license." What's next, having benefit so a business can pay their payroll taxes? An don't forget the light and water bill benefit.

THINK ABOUT IT..........seriously...........before you slam me. I plan on starting a business in downtown Dallas this year and I need funds to finance it. Can you spare a dime, hundred dollars? I'll call it a raffle.

What does this project? Welfare for a beer. Give me a break.

  16. You are correct D-Dawg!!! And I'm sure David Austin and the new administration will continue to do great things for our wonderful county!

    I agree.

But we also need to remember that the economic situation right now is not conducive for business growth. Improvements and growth will not happen overnight. The BOC can't work miracles. They will have to try and keep cost under control and cut spending where practical. One thing we don't need is another property tax increase because of mistakes of the past BOC. The biggist disappointment, of which there is no excuse, is the attempt by the previous leadership to further Paulding as a bedroom community. Yes, I know we have an airport but what good is it with no terminal, etc. and we have an industrial park but look at the numbers. More subdivisions were allowed than effort for industry. If you doubt me look at who gave contributions to our former leader. It will be YEARS before the existing subdivisions will be completely built out. Logic, common sense and sound leadership are needed and self serving and greed are not. Keep the faith, be patient and give the new administration a chance. It's only January 10th.
