  1. Shearin is really pushing the envelope. I came home and had a cardboard tube sticking out of my mailbox. I noticed only two others in the neighborhood. When i opened it there was a plat of Austin's proposal(?) for a subdivision with a flier from Shearin stating we don't need a developer for BOC chairman. I guesss we only need one that is the developers back pockets who has approved the many, many, many subdivisions that plague us. maybe David should have greased the palm and there wouldn't be a problem. When I went back outside I found that the only ones who had the plat were the ones with David Austin signs in their yard. I bet if I took down the signs I wouldn't get any more of Shearin's propaganda. I think I'll send Jerry a letter and see if he can help me reserve a lot in David's subdivision. By the way. The tube came from Duluth so the outside the county monies are sure trying to help Jerry. Too bad it won't work.

  2. Gosh, I hope I didn't offend anyone are cause hard feelings among the bloggers. I just wanted to get some intelligent discussion about issues effecting us. I guess I did because all response have been outstanding and very informative. I knew when I moved to PC over 10 years ago I was in the right place for my family. If you don't question authority or the politicals they will run all over you and think they are beyond reproach. We just need to get the message out to the rest if the citizens in PC so they can make the right choices.

  3. Before anyone gets their feathers ruffled remember that D-dawg is in real estate and he is going to defend Shearin at ANY cost. Please us common sense and understand the BOC are going to do what it takes to get re-elected and then they will have a senior moment and forget any promises to look after us, the citizens of PC. If the BOC could get away with it they wouldn' allow anyone to know what they and the developers want. KEEP UP THE DEMANDS FOR PUBLIC INPUT AND ACCESS TO OUR COUNTY!

  4. Coots Lake is a great beach right off 278 toward Alabama. We used to take the kids there and swim and picnic. The people were real nice. Now that the "kids" are grown and have there family the have to go to the salt water beach. Try Isle Of Palms at Charleston county. Great beach, lots of history and great seafood. Oh yeah, take mucho dollars. Can be expensive but FUN!

  5. Quite frankly, if you have a 401k or a pension plan or a 529 plan for your kid or any kind of mutal fund, you are profitting from these record profits. These profits don't belong to the company - they belong to the individual stock holders. Quite frankly, I may be unhappy about the price at the pump, but both of my kids' college funds are growing by leaps and bounds. That has to be taken into consideration also.

Contrary to popular belief, there isn't any one thing that can be done to lower gas prices. There are so many fingers in the pie and so many interests that have jacked up the price that there is no easy solution. The feds and the states make a ton of money off gas sales. The environmentalists (sp?) have done their job by keeping production, refinement, and transport of gasoline so expensive. The stock holders of these companies actual (gasp) expect to get a return on their money that they have invested in these companies. And, believe it or not, the countries that control these resources actually expect to get paid for their products. I'm not really sure where the speculators fit into this equation - but they aren't helping matters by making all these media predictions of rising prices that end up being self fulfilling prophecies (sp?).

The fact is this - this country was running on a hay day that included alot of purchasing on credit and borrowed equity from real estate. It was time for a natural correction of our life styles and a return to a more introspective look at life. This happens every so often in a very cyclic pattern. None of this is surprising to me. The fact is that it was time for us personally, and probably most of us as a society to relook at how we are living our lives. This is just a natural part of that natural introspection.

Sorry, WT, Obama, Hiliary, George, etc., etc., have very little to do with the way I live my life and raise my children. But, that's based upon choices that we've made as individuals. I don't think that they have much to do with the price of gas and couldn't do much if there was the inclination. And, no, I'm not a conspiracy theorist that thinks that George will magically drop the price of gas two weeks before the election just to get McCain elected.

YOU GO JUST THINKIN' HARD. You are the first person to put it plainly. Most people don't have a clue why gas is going up. They want to blame Bush. Congress needs to get off it and approve off shore and anwar drilling. The liberal socialist commies are trying to destroy us from within and there are so many gullible people out there. We need to start today so we can have oil and gas ten years from now. I like Exxin making big bucks or rather the stockholders because I have them in two of my mutual funds. For you dummies out there it is called capitalism or the free enterprise system which has made thgis country great.

  6. I got the latest smear about Austion from Shearin and could not believe what he wrote. He must think the citizens in Paulding are really naive and gullible. My wife got so upset that she tore it in half. Does anyone know where I can send my contribution to the Austin campaign. My son, his wife and her relatives and my daughter, her husband and his relatives are also going for Austin and they are spreading the word. They want a voice.

  7. I have triplet grandsons who live in Columbia, SC and just graduated from high school. All three have full rides for college because of grades. One going to Univ of SC to study music. One is going to Furman and plans on being a minister. The other is going to College of Charleston and is taking creative writing. This one gave the speech at graduation and will enter national competion with his speech in Washington next month and will get to meet the President. Of course that got all on this from MY side of the family.

  8. A university access in Paulding will be great but the lease/use of one of the LAST historical landmarks in the County should be used by the citizens and not totally for the university. Some of the offices/spaces could be leased to attorneys, insurance people or other businesses and convert one of the courtrooms for use by civic groups or for other meeting purposes like the Demos & Repubs monthly meetings. The lease of the courthouse should have gone through a townhall meeting to get citizens viewpoints instead of being railroaded like everything else that has been done in the County by the BOC (new courthouse for one). Just more of I know what's good for you so don't even quaestion me because I don't care wht you think attitude by ALL of the BOC.

Also, why do not the two local newspapers have letters to the editor or space for local viewpoints/comments (could set word limits). They probably would have to add a whole section to accomodate comments. We can't ask questions or comments at The BOC meeting without prior approval. Are the newspapers in the BOC back pocket?

  9. If you will notice all the people backing Shearin are either developers or are gig real estate investors. Someone needs to check who owns the property that his signs are placed on throughout the County. They are all connected to Shearin either directly in business or a relative. With all I have read here and have asked question of people "in the know" I can't see how anyone could vote for Shearin. Is his ego that big that he thinks he can walk on water? Sure he has done some good things for Paulding but he has let his personal gains interfer with the office he was elected to serve.

If you have the time and gas take a ride around Paulding and look at all the homes on 1/4 acre lots and the low prices. I am not critizing the owners because that might be all they can afford. We have way too many lower priced homes on postage stamp lots that have caused a burden on our police and fire departments, our roads or lack thereof, our schools and the overall well bing of our community. ALL of the Commissioners need to be held responsible for the uncontrolled growth. We need a moratorium on no new subdivisions on less than a half acre lots. The BOC may have been looking too hard at the tax revenue for all the homes without thinking about the results. Should not there be a tax cut since we have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many homes now. Should not the undeveloped/completed subdivisions developers have to pay a fee yearly or raise taxes on undeveloped lots?

  10. No fliers here, but I am a Democrat. :p

Are you a "Southern" Democrat or a Ted Kennedy/John Kerry democrat? A Southern Democrat is a conservative, God fearing, loves his country, supports the military, and respects others opinion type of person. Most Republicans in the South left the democratic party because it was getting way too liberal/socialist. A lot of democrats today tell me they were democrats because their father was one, their grandfather was one, etc. My brother-in-law is a first class bleeding heart liberal democrat and whines all the time about how we should pay more taxes to help others (ones that failed to make the right decisions in life and think the gov't owes them a living).

  11. I got a flier in the mail Monday from Shearin slamming Austin saying he is planning to build a development with more homes than is in Hiram. Furthermore he said we should not turn the Commission over to a developer. I laughed so hard I almost fell on the kitchen bar stool and I was only drinking sweet tea. Talk about calling the kettle black. Does Jerry really believe the citizens of Paulding County are that niave? Well guess what. I got a great response flier in the mail from Austin yesterday and he really told it like it is on Jerry. That response flier slammed Shearin so bad he probably had to do chin ups out of shoes to see what hit him. I can't wait for the next installment.

  12. Whitey - I did not realize you were in such bad shape, how can you even post on here, plus do all the legwork to get the facts you do. I guess you have a light oxygen tank. Surepip how about you are you gonna toss a few? It seems like the chairdude knows a lot about comments on Paulidng.Com without him responding on here. You know he reads. I am surprised he has not gotten so mad that he responded. I wish I did not have some proir committments, I would go and toss a few, and I have a pretty good arm. I would probably donate a lot of money to see him dunk a few times. Surepip, throw a few for me.

As far as the commissioners meeting, a citizen has a right to speak what they think. I don't care if they are endorsing another candidate, if a citizen has concerns and questions he has a right to ask quesitons. You could see the chairdude's control issues coming in., his face getting red. In my opinion, from talking to him and listenting to some things he has to say, he always wants to be in control, you question this, and he will get defensive and ticked off. Play my way or no way at all. Bad temperment. I will only answer the things I want to hear, I will not be quesitoned, how dare you question me. I am surprised he even got on the agenda again. Power and control is not a good thing.

Careful about critizing the Boss of the county. You may find your yard dug up to fix a "leaking" water or gas line. Power and control is what we, the citizens of Paulding county, are trying to stop. Some people just like to control all our lives and think we don't have a right to question their authority. Shearin runs the BOD using Roberts Rule of Order as "he sees it".

  13. Jerry Shearin in his state of Paulding County speech bragged that there was a property tax reduction coming (typical politician to get votes). Today in the New Era there is an item about the school board is raising property taxes. What is going on? The problem is the commissioners have allowed all of these developers to come in here and put a big burden on our schools and roads without any preparation to handle the children and traffic. There is going to be a public hearing on June 24th at 7:30 at the Paulding County Board of Education Bpardroom, 3236 Atlanta hwy (new location). BE THERE! Maybe our BOE needs to understand how to balance a budget and possible reduce staff in their office. Remember when they had an off election voting time to push through an increase and it was voted down the first time but passed the second sneak through. Thanks to the state legislature they have to do it at regular scheduled voting times. Of course you will hear the same song and dance that they will "have to have split school schedules" and "let's do it for the children". Fear, fear fear. It works. Who is running for the school board in November? Where is the leadership? Maybe the Facilities Group will donate money for new schools. :o :o

PLEASE TURN OUT FOR THE MEETING JUNE 24TH!

  14. We still have our SUV but only use it on trips on the interstate, go downtown Atlanta or go to Sam's (haul bulk items). We bought a Volkswagen new beetle to run errands or shop. I have a pickup I use in my business but watch wasted travel even if miles deductible.

Made a big mistake last time we had a gas crises (Carter administration). We sold our loaded Pontiac station wagon and bought a Volkswagen rabbitt. Bad choice with two kids but got good gas mileage. Won't make that mistake again because we take our grandkids places. Prices will eventually come down but not a lot. Nows a good time to buy an SUV and hold it until prices fall. But neither Obama or McCain can change it. Congress needs to vote to drill for oil off any coast, in Alaska and in the big find out in the west.

Remember two years ago when the democrates said they would do something about the economy which included lowering gas prices? Not! They, as usual, are big blowhards who talk a good game but don't deliver. Remember this when you vote. Fancy words and phrases won't fix it. Anyone want a Bob Barr sign?

  15. Thats easy. God, Country,Family then Myself in that order are my priorities. Far to many people in my opinion place the needs of them self over what is best for the country. With that being said, As an Individual whose primary responsibility is the well being of my wife and children. Hillary or Obama Will balance the Budget and quit spending without away of paying for it. I expect any democrat who holds office to reverse the trend of the national deficit. ( Clinton reversed GHB's deficit and even had a surplus) I do not think it is fair to pass a huge debt to our children while a select few are getting Rich off the thing causing the deficit. Once the deficit trend is reversed I think the value of the dollar will begin to rise which directly effects me as an Individual.

Exactly what will McCain do that will benefit you as an Individual?

Go back and do your research on the surplus. We had a surplus in Clinton's because the democrates controlled Congress his first two years and voted the highest percent raises in taxes in history. And when the Demos talked about lowering the national debt they meant it wasn't going UP as fast. It still went up under Clinton but not as fast. To make it simple take a sheet of paper and draw a line from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. Then draw another line from the bottom left corner to about two-thirds up the right hand side. Still goes up, right?

McCain is not the best choice but a screaming liberal like Obama who is the MOST liberal in Congress or Hillary who thinks we should live under socialism is not the answer. And don't even mention Barr.
