  1. Every protest they did asserts as positively as it can that black lives matter ... The name is not black lives matter only when cops kill blacks. It says black lives matter, period. What don't you get about the movement? pubby
  2. I stand for the constitution and refuse to take sides as both have the right to bloviate about the issues for which they care. I do know that the president doesn't "get it;" that his supposed to represent all the people and since he is government and is trying to marshal efforts to restrict the constitutional right of one side to express themselves, I'll suggest that his reframing the issue as something it never was; given his official position, is an unconstitutional act alone worthy of definition as a high misdemeanor. But that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone but maybe, just m
  3. Bla, bla, bla ... I'll note that until Trump ran for president, he lived in Manhattan in NYC. He moved there from Queens. These are the people who know him best. They've known him for years and, since I recall folks making the point in 2000 that Al Gore didn't even take his home state and that was a telling reason to reject him, I'll simply present the 2016 vote totals for Manhattan and Queens. These are the folks who know him as a con man, liar, cheat who threatens to sue rather than pay, who dealt with the mob for advantage. These were also the people who avoided his casino

  5. Herb was a better salesman than I and after all, they already get free obituary listings without advertising here. pubby
  6. Tribalism in politics: With 451000 results, I'm obviously not the only person of which that thought has crossed their mind Gone off meds? Nope, taking smart pills instead ... you really, really ought to try them BTW: I don't hate trump, I just think he is an incompetent narcissist whose sole accomplishment is to con the media to talk about him incessently. I actually find myself disengaging because he really is stupid and boring, which combined with other character flaws, means he is injuring my country; the country that I love. His election promises to be as destructive to our
  7. I think you're too impressed by wealth and power. You know that Vladimir Putin is 20 times richer than Trump and has his finger on as many nukes as Trump; you must love him because of his money. pubby PS: It was opined that had Trump simply taken his inheritance back in the 1980s and invested the money in a trust, he would have been worth twice as much as his is now. My guess is he'd have had more sex as well - although that is debatable. PPS: You need to get some polarizing sunglasses; the reflection of the sun off of Trump's gold-leaf furniture and fixtures has blinded you to
  8. The program that provides health care for tens of thousands of Georgia kids has expired and even it were renewed, it is looking to be cut by nearly a half-billion dollars a report in today's AJC states. Other programs that provide subsidies for rural health care including monies to keep rural hospitals open have also been allowed to expire. While current funds in these program accounts will likely last at least until November, the expiration of these programs throws uncertainty into health care providers who have patients who use these programs to pay. Even if they reauthorize
  9. I agree we had less than optimal choices but Hillary was closest to the status quo and Trump was just off the rails IMO. Here is a discussion or maybe description of the situation that I basically accept. Robert Reich talks about the position of Cong. David Bratt and how his and even Bernie Sanders diagnosis of what is wrong is quite similar. One of the things that those on the right do is assume that everyone who is not a trump voter accepts without question the status quo in the way our nation is run. Not so. Where we differ is no so much that McConnell or Ryan are bought a
  10. Probably the responsibility for posting said obits from Benson and Eberhardt was changed from one person to another and the new person dropped the ball, lost the password or just was too lazy to do so. I would hope folks would call them and say they miss seeing them here. pubby
  11. Obviously my comments were waaaay over your head. As far as obscure; you do know that Kasich was head of ways and means under Gingrich was instrumental in not only the welfare reform during Clinton's administration but in balancing the budget in that era. He, along with Rand Paul, were both among those seeking the GOP nomination for president in 2016. And Corker is chairman of the senate foreign relations committee dumb ass and is so obscure that he was the lead guest on Meet The Press today. That is an unbelievable slander of some of the most honest, committed and respected Repub
  12. If there is a trend, it is toward fewer police officers being shot and killed. Policing, despite its association with both driving and guns, is not anywhere close to the most dangerous occupation ranking well down the list (15th) in terms of occupational hazards. The top three are loggers, fishermen and aircraft pilots/flight engineers. Garbage collectors, park maintenance workers, farmers and ranchers, roofers and taxi drivers are more likely to die on the job. chart and article I know this flies in the face of the right wing world view but that is what separates fact based liberal
  13. You sure could! I think if you look at most of the folks I quote in criticism of Trump, you'd find names like David Frum (GWB speechwriter responsible for Axis of Evil quote.), Ohio gov. John Kasich, GOP Senators John McCain, Bob Corker and Rand Paul ... and others you would, in your failure to grasp reality you claim are democrats. To tie criticism of Trump solely to partisanship is simply inaccurate. It is Bob Corker, chairman of the Sen. Foreign Relations Committee that says that Trump is not mentally suited for office. His absurd tweets this morning regarding Secy. Tillerson seek
  14. I hate it when you guys suggest stupidity. You stage ... or probably more properly set the stage so you can respond quickly. We are in the second week of the aftermath of the Hurricane. We knew it was a Category 5 and it was going to severely impact Puerto Rico two days prior. Only an asshole would suggest that stage equipment in the path of a hurricane but you do have folks on alert; possibly move ships into an area that is out of the range of the storm but able to respond in a day instead of ten days. It is obvious that the planning and execution are behind the eight ball in Puerto
  15. I think the DOJ, which has a dedicated fleet of aircraft with secure communications and serious operational responsibilities that exceeds that of some other departments in the context of counter intelligence, counter-terrorism and law enforcement continues to use its fleet. Hence no one is pointing the finger at Jeff Sessions in this. It is the use in less critical departments. Presumably a significant portion of Holder's and, for that matter, Alberto Gonzales (Bush AG) personal travel was more PR oriented trips. Frankly, I think the bigger issue is the emoluments violations of Trump di
  16. the press is investigating them and Trump would rather shut the press down but he can't. Trump is just trying to avoid criticism for his choices. Hell Price was under investigation for a stock manipulation scheme involving medical device manufacturers that he had the power to set policy on as chairman of his house committee. He would obviously know of what would happen to boost (or tank) stock prices of these companies - official federal action - and he placed sure bets on their stock. (You can make money shorting a stock as well as when it goes up.) He may yet face an indictment on tha
  17. So, throw up your hands and say there is nothing that can be done. But, if there had been a stronger initial response ... there could be not 18 military helicopters deployed (or even poised for deployment) but maybe 100 or more. They could have been staged beginning before the hurricane struck instead of waiting what, two or three weeks before being deployed. It really is somewhat telling that Ge. Honore, marshalled 40,000 troops in New Orleans in the time after Katrina; today, going into the second week in San Juan, there are a total of something like 4000 troops. But I know the
  18. There was a comparison, not favorable, in regard the US response to the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and the relief effort in Puerto Rico. And they weren't even Americans. pubby
  19. I recognize that life is not fair but my efforts are to make it more fair so I'm too busy to get a helmet. Tundra: I think they already get it. The tee, after all, reads "Hugs, not slugs" and "We want to grow up." pubby PS: Do you think there aren't cops who understand?
  20. It really is a matter of empathy. Speaking of ... here is an excerpt of a study on that topic related to liberalism and conservatism. We see this most clearly now in regard to the emphasis on using terms like Illegal aliens vs. Dreamers or just the acceptance that someone might protest by kneeling and an effort to enforce by coercion, a uniform manner and insistence on a specific routine. pubby
  21. No one who lived through the 1960's doubts that we have made a tremendous amount of progress. However, with events like the unite the right white nationalist event in Charlottesville, with neo-nazis marching alongside Kluxers and the President talking about all the 'fine people' who were just there to peacefully protest the removal of confederate monuments ... I wonder if Mr. Patterson is so sure that racism has vanished. I mean Trump himself - I love his quote about how he hates Blacks to count his money because ... the counters need to be Jews ... not to mention Trump's birtherism, t

  23. Tundra: Those folks in Puerto Rica are smart enough to know that it would cost lives to be critical of our thin-skinned president as he would hurt them if they didn't say nice things about him. If the death toll on the island doesn't exceed 100 because of delays in getting aid to the island I will be surprised. I suspect, frankly, the delay in getting help to the island pretty will result in 300 or more deaths, of which over 200 will be because of slow reaction. It will two or three weeks before we will have a reliable count of the human toll on that island because communications ar
  24. They are 'deep state plots' ... apparently the TV stations make them up to hype sales of water and AA batteries at grocery stores. Rush, among most conservatives, has elevated stupid to new heights ... including the presidency and all points below. To wit: this is the latest headline in the Washington Post: Trump just nominated a climate change skeptic to USDA’s top science post He's an economist, talk show host and failed senate candidate in Iowa and now recipient of spoils as we time travel back to the 1870s. Yep, if you watched the cable news during the election, you
  25. The question here is not whether Guard Dad is correct in his suspected identity of Beats Working/Mistake Not account - on that I know he is wrong. Exactly what is up, I also don't know. It could be that someone known to you or your 'office manager' is an undercover liberal ... or prankster ... or heck, you could be the prankster yourself who asked for the logon details just to create drama. I don't know that we'll ever get to the bottom of it because if it were someone known to you GD, I suspect they'd never admit it and probably for good reason. pubby
