  8. I'm sure an attorney would point out the massive genero$ity of her forgiveness ... While I'm sure she is happier living with the forgiveness and I would certainly recommend that as an attitude, the idea is that her generosity can be expressed in the context of a willingness to settle. pubby

  10. The above video is from a citizens/Internet group thatopposes the TPP and the idea of fast-track approval forthe agreement which was favorably passed out of committeeyesterday. FromThe Hill: The Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a billthat would streamline passage of global trade dealsthrough Congress. The panel approved, on a 20-6 vote, a long-awaitedtrade promotion authority (TPA) measure with the supportof seven Democrats, sending the measure to the Senatefloor, where it will face another tough test in the comingweeks. The Democrats who voted to approve were Se
  11. The 'excerpt' of JFK's speech to newspaper editors and publishers back in 1961 takes on different meaning when you listen to the entire piece. It had nothing to do with his assassination in Dallas in 1963, as implied by the truncated version that suggests that he was outing our own intelligence apparatus. He wasn't; he was talking about what was then considered the existential threat posed by the USSR. Here are his complete remarks followed by a bit of text from the posting on youtube. BTW, consider how the context of the remarks makes a world of difference in how they are
  12. He got more publicity for the issue than anyone save Obama at that SOTU in 2011 (after the Citizens United v. FEC abomination.) The reason is simple. A little bit better than half the money that is raised for campaigns is spent on TV alone (about 60 percent)... and the five major media corporations that reach the majority of Americans (90+ percent) reap 98% of those billions. As such, these media companies celebrate that decision and laugh at us all the way to the bank ... while suppressing most news and information regarding that absurd decision. pubby
  13. Well, if they present it as a result of the open records request and it comes out (and if I'm on the list) what attorney is going to do the class action? pubby
  14. Why no names? Probably because, unlike you or I, surepip - and I think the record shows this definitively - David Austin is not suit proof. His release of the names immediately opens himself, Jones and the county to a lawsuit for libel. pubby PS: If I'm on the list (I know both you and I were on 'a' list ... but probably not that one) I hope he does release it but I don't think he's that stupid.

  19. I understand your concern but remember Moores Law which basically says that the computing power available in 2025 will be literally enormous compared to what we have today. Since what we have today is proving the concept, it would appear that the innovation would be able to reduce the incidence of accidents in aggregate by such a large degree, that your concerns should be assuaged. So, while I doubt that any automated transportation system will be 'perfect' ... we shouldn't let unattainable perfection be the enemy a whole helluva lot better. pubby
  20. I'm all for the truth coming to the surface but given the context of releasing the names in association with the investigation of a criminal extortion conspiracy - which whether that is truth or not - the courts are the only institution with the privileged status to make them public without risking a libel or slander action. Personally, and you're welcome to adopt the position as well, I have some doubt about the identities they pulled a background upon - less doubt now than when I first heard the story. The question is whether the background checks were associated with the criminal ext
  21. I basically agree with your assessment on all points but the last point. Self-driving (auto pilots) will become increasingly common beginning about 2020 or so and ultimately, the private automobile will be largely replaced by battery-powered self-driving automobiles that require only knowledge of where you want to go and a few ducats to get you there. As I expect to be driving through most of my 70's, this should coincide with my diminished capacity and provide a great and easy transition at that time. pubby
  22. Kim: On their face the numbers 'look good' ... However the presentation fails to explain how those numbers are attained based on the general promise that 'nothing really changes' ... i.e. the number of employees engaged or their hours. Annually, the figures show a projected decline in the 'amount' of labor purchased of $718,426. At $15/hr that is over 47,000 hours of work that is trimmed from a current 'effort' of 367,895 hours of labor purchased (theoretically). I think we all know there are productivity gains ... about a 15 percent increase - and the question is what is the sour
