  4. I remember one of my neighbors when I was very young (age 3-4) had geese and they were terrifying. I know dogs ran free in the neighborhood as did cats. Can these animals coexist with geese? (I figure they could all figure they need to get out of the way of goats and would other wise leave them alone.) But are pet owners out of luck on this? pubby
  5. The first quote in this topic was from .... drumroll ... you Zorro. And after bringing up the conversation and finding that not everyone agreed with you - your point seems to simply paint simplistic perjoratives you think describe all residents of an entire city with a single brush stroke - you hit us with another pejorative - that we're parrots (aka: idiots, sheep, etc.) ... You're the source of this and, since you made an effort to divide - again using a pejorative - you succeeded. It is pretty predictable. As far as the actual term, its continued use just seems divisive. Div
  6. From the descriptions, the fight with words, which generated hundreds of millions, was a lot more entertaining than the fight with fists. A one-on-one with with words live might be a way to generate some cash. You and say, glassdogs might get have some subscribers. We could structure it like a boxing match ... three minute rounds ... and the option to pick up the paintball guns to settle the matter. pubby
  7. Here's some of the 'hype' ... from the BBC. Apparently there is a problem with the cable connection so, at least according to the news (11 Alive), a lot of folks who did pay are being shut out and can't see it. pubby
  8. Interesting word usage there Zorro ... What references objects ... not people. I think that is one of the main reasons I tend not to go down that entire path you're on - you know calling names - is that I never really bought into the old ridicule game whether it was calling someone a dummy, idiot, fool, creep, asshole, WOP, chinck, n-word, f-up, MF, SOB ... wait maybe I do use the SOB, MF and f-up language a little but when I do, it really does have an affect. I figure when you use the full litany of pejoratives you first off are overly critical in your attitude if for no other reaso
  9. Mei Lan ... support for any infrastructure improvements disqualify you as a libertarian, but I'm sure you know that. You also probably know that most libertarians insist on pure ideological interpretation to the point of dancing with anarchy and its forms. The notion that there is pork attached is the problem fails to acknowledge that infrastructure improvements are, by definition, pure pork. pubby

  18. Actually, there is a trend of increasing distrust of the criminal justice system in the US: Obviously, people in different parts of our society have different perspectives. That eight of ten young black men feel they are likely to be railroaded by an unjust system ought to be cause for concern. Surely you're not so self-centered as to believe your position is the only possible position on the topic of trust of government? Heck, NJ, you've been preaching distrust of government for the last three decades because of your opinion that government regulates too much, taxes
  19. That is because they support the racket economy war economy perpetual war US Economy ... you know as in 'war is racket and perpetual war is a perpetual racket' ... Here's a link. BTW: The word is we are headed to war with Iran. Seems our right wingers have good connections to right wingers there and they figure if they can cooperate to create an 'incident' ... they can thwart peace and keep themselves first in line at the trough. pubby
  20. Well, I have you know that while I don't believe we're headed for a zombie apocalypse, I did look up sources for powdered eggs today after reading surepip's bit on the death of millions of laying hens. It bothered me that powdered eggs were as expensive as fresh eggs. If memory serves, it used to be that things like powdered milk and powdered eggs were exceptionally affordable (50-60 percent the cost of fresh) but apparently they've ginned up so much demand from the doomsday preppers demand for that stuff is now up and the cost is only contained by the relative cost of fresh. I'm only
  21. I chose this one from Palast because, you know we do have a problem in Georgia with our voting machines. Indeed, there are credible witnesses who would suggest that the 2002 election in Georgia - the first in which the Diebold voting machines were used here - were rigged. pubby
  22. I think the 'employee trick' is exactly what the doctor ordered in a case like this. It certainly creates an incentive for the wealthy guy to hire a chauffeur ... As far as civil law, though, the rich guy would still be liable if his driver wrecks and injures someone. So, while we might see the proliferation of the new corporate position - fall guy - it would add to employment but only if we don't let Robots take those jobs too. I think also that the fall guys would have a certain percentage that might also be whistleblowers ... or they may just turn up on witness lists. My poi
  23. Really? Their tax base is bigger than ours? .... Haven't you read the headlines ... we're producing more oil than they are now. And if our tax base is so puny, why are we spending more on military preparedness than the next 10 countries - of which at least 8 are allies? pubby PS: I get it ... you were talking about Paulding County's tax base so yeah ... smaller tax base. What I did get from the discussion though was that they are about building airports in the center of things ... not off in the boonies. They're afraid to spend money on things like that ... Why?
