  1. We use converter boxes found on Amazon.com. They were 20 or 30 dollars each. I found another on Craigslist for $40 (nice one). Next best prices from Radio Shack and Target were OVER $60! The govt. doesn't send coupons for free ones anymore....that ended a few years ago. I'm very VERY happy. It's totally free; we get about 65 channels including ion, and it is more reliable than cable when the storms come (especially ice). We did this 2 years ago and I've already saved over $2000. We use Netflix and Internet to enhance the experience. The real key is to use an amplified antenna. It
  2. You are very nice to bring the man his dog. My hat goes off to you.!
  3. I think this is the info you need, and the address is close to your description: Jack C Wright Home xxxx (now removed) You could drive over there easy to find anybody on the net
  4. Somehow, some people can look in the mirror after abandoning little helpless animals. Last night we found a litter of kittens in the street....one long-haired orange kitten is seriously hurt and we are completely broke. Their are 5 little abandoned beauties here and I'm hoping somebody can help them with the transition to a new home. We are very poor (single mom of 3) and already have a handful of older cats here to care for. They purr loudly. Assorted colors, appx. 3 months old If there's vet who can help or a program to connect the hurt kitty to the vet, I can drive her
  5. I had no idea she would eat my berries. She is 100 pounds and LOVES candy. If I leave the bag of sugar on the counter overnight, she will eat it all and most of the bag and I will have a very happy dog and a sticky floor. I, too, was in shock and disbelief about the grapes being poisonous to dogs. I knew that chocolate was bad and I have a Mini Border Collie who will unzip my purse to steal the chocolate (wrappers are under my bed now). My last lab used to spend time each summer day under the apple tree eating apples (not the chore). She would hold them between her paws and roll them ove
  6. You can recess a bowl of beer in the ground nearby and they will drown in it....in fact, it's so effective that you'll need to change the beer because it will be full of dead slugs in just 1 or 2 days. If you are not drinking currently (like me) you can buy "Snail and Slug Bait" from Home Depot for about $10, or come see me and I'll give you some if you need it. Slugs mostly attack seedlings and strawberries, so you might just not need to do anything. If the weather ever dries up, most of them will go away.
  7. Yesterday I picked about a gallon of blackberries. I set the bucket down several times to use both arms to gain access to more berries. After a while I kept thinking, "by now I should have more berries in this bucket." So I kept picking in the light rain...picking and eating and picking....then I found out where the berries were going from the bucket. I turned to deposit more berries and caught my black lab, Wilma Jean, with her head in the bucket helping herself. When I yelled at her, she looked up with seeds stuck all over her teeth.
  8. Out of so many replies to this topic, yours is the first with this (highly considerate) position. I was hoping to find some flicker of a HELPFUL idea rather than mudslinging at our neighbors. They are, after all, our neighbors...even if across town.
  9. You can plant berry plants now for years of harvest (strawberries, blue, rasp, black, youngberry, boysenberry, grapes). In Hiram cheap at newleafplants. Perennials, too, can be done now, and soon it will be time to plant cole crops like brussel, kale, etc.
  10. That beats Westside's .24 per pound where I just came from and SCORE!!! I got $39+ for the 4 car batteries plus one smaller mower battery (166 pounds total). I could have gotten another $10 from Taylor's (new to me but now noted). Thanks. Thanks a lot.
  11. Ok the smallest of the full size car batteries weighs 35 pounds, so 35 x .24 = $8.40 for each used car battery (roughly). That's at Westside recycling very close to the Dallas Hospital. I will happily take it!
  12. ok I called the place in New Hope and they pay .21 per pound...so far the highest payer is Westside at .24 cents per pound. Now out to weigh one of the 4 batteries.
  13. Wow! Thanks for the number. They only give .15 per pound. The place in Dallas (Westside) gives .24 (still too little). Thanks I wanted that name or number. The website is nice...I called them and they open at 9.
  14. Thanks I will call them but I really need somewhere closer. My friend recommended the place at Ridge Rd and 92 but they look either closed or on a very long vacation. (i could be wrong)
  15. Good morning! Here's hope that somebody knows where I can take 4 large, used car batteries to exchange for money. I've been saving them for when we are really broke and need gas money. Thanks and have a lovely day.
  16. We made the move to Antennae over 2 years ago. We get over 50 channels anywhere in the house. It took a day or two of tinkering and tweaking at first (amplified antennae was KEY). If you pm me, I can tell you more. I've saved over $2000!!! We supplement with Netflix on the game systems (for the kids) for $8 a month and the internet can provide any movie or show you can think of (29.99 per month). When the cable goes out, we still get all we need (and the weather channel is great)...all free. We don't miss cable and have saved enough to buy summer passes and clothes for the kids and musi
  17. Your acknowledgement and pride in him makes him hungry to keep doing even better things. This is a great reflection of you!
  18. Yes he is the father of all 3. I am seeking therapy for the 15 year old. Just bought her some clothes (always good therapy).
  19. What a great group of helpful people, and I think you are ALL right. Teen is 15 years old and yes I agree the legal trouble will follow (alternative school and Juv Court date next month). She has had A's and B's nearly through the 9 years of school and perfect attendance many years. I've put her in years of gymnastics, softball, band, SunValleyBeach, Six Flags Passes, and have always been home for the school bus for the past 8 years by working much from home. The passes to the pool and Six Flags are mainly a way to get me to stop working and focus on the time with kids every summer. This su
  20. What do you mean, exactly? Yes, he has a prepaid phone number but never gives up an address. I've tried many approaches to get a mailing address. He just wants to avoid CSR at all costs (Child Support Recovery)
  21. Not the perkiest subject, sorry, but it's time get a divorce and fast. My teenager needs protecting from what could be a tragic move to Texas to be with her dad who has become a very bad guy. I am always broke, never get child support and the mortgage is always late like the other bills, so I need a very low cost attorney as soon as possible. There might or might NOT be an address on the MIA husband. I had looked into a divorce-by-publication in the past but was told that it does require an attorney. The teen thinks she can run live with daddy (who she wouldn't recognize) to avoid some te
  22. Lots of good advice. Thanks! Cedertown it is (though Carrolton is a very close 2nd)
  23. I called the courthouse (so sweet was the lady who answered my call---like always) and I was told that no info would be available (like fine) for 2 weeks after the ticket was issued. Definitely Monday will be a day to go get the license renewed at the DMV on County Farm Road.
