Scientists Make Fruit Flies Gay, Then Straight Again
A new study finds that both drugs and genetic manipulation can turn the homosexual behavior of fruit flies on and off within a matter of hours.
While the genetic finding supports the thinking that homosexuality is hard-wired, the drug finding surprisingly suggests it's not that simple.
In fact, homosexuality in the fruit flies seems to be regulated by how they interpret the scent of another.
Homosexuality is widespread in the animal world. But scientists have long debated whether, in humans a "gay gene" exists.
Previous research in humans has suggested that how we interpret scents given off by another person might impact our sexuality.
In the new work, University of Illinois at Chicago researcher David Featherstone and coworkers discovered a gene in fruit flies they call "genderblind," or GB. A mutation in GB turns flies bisexual
GB transports the neurotransmitter glutamate to brain cells. Altering levels of glutamate change the strength of nerve cell junctions, called synapses, which play a key role in human and animal behavior.
Post-doctoral researcher Yael Grosjean found that all male fruit flies with a mutation in their GB gene courted other males.
"It was very dramatic," Featherstone said. "The GB mutant males treated other males exactly the same way normal male flies would treat a female. They even attempted copulation."

Yeah it is and he received community service for that I beleive - the family of his friend asked the judge to ignore the manslaughter charge which the judge did (thank God this one didn't want a Book deal out of the doings in his court room). It was an accident with a tragic end - not murder, not even drunk driving.

I think what some of us are forgetting is that Vick (regardless of his color) is very young, was very very young when he came into all of that money- came from a certian lifestyle with no money and then BAM all that money, how would some of us have reacted or done? Don't know, never been there. WHat he did was wrong on alot of different levels and I hope that he really learned his lesson like he says he has, only One knows his heart. Maybe parents should take the time to explain to their kids about people making mistakes regardless of their occupation, and that you can't put all your faith in mankind becuase they will surely let you down.

As for him flipping off his fans, so what....maybe all the people yelling obscenities at him because he didnt do as well as they thought he should finally got to him...he was mad, and he did something that millions of people do, but he got it caught on camera, because he plays football he isn't allowed to make mistakes..

It's easy for fans to be or play GM....but McKay has made some serious
blunders, the draft is in many ways a crapshoot....but some teams seem
to have much better odds than others.
I personally think character is important, good athletes are a dime a dozen
just like pretty women in the prime of their lives are a dime a dozen....
but mentally tough and disciplined athletes aren't so abundant.
