An ANGEL from our neighborhood just took my husband to get some so we are set! THANK YOU for offering to help, and THANK YOU to all the other kind people in Paulding! It's times like these that it hits home how wonderful the people in Paulding are!!

I need diapers for my babies (Amazon was supposed to deliver diapers yesterday... didn't happen, and we're out), but my husband's SUV just slipped and slid all over our street, so I guess I'll be wrapping the babies' bottoms in t-shirts and Saran wrap. (j/k, I do have some cloth diapers I will be using)

I lived in the North for years, and drove in it easily because the roads were plowed or salted/sanded. What exists on many roads here are solid sheets of ice. I am VERY adept at driving in bad weather, but I slipped and slid all over the road. Please don't make idiotic statements when "us Northerners" with a brain realize that it is NOT SAFE for a normal car with normal tires to attempt to drive on slick sheets of ice that have not been salted or sanded.

My husband got stuck five times on his way home yesterday (twice, he slid into a ditch)... and five wonderful people helped him. So thankful we live in a place with so many kind-hearted people! BTW, my racist friend thinks it's because this is such a "white" area (eye roll). Please share your stories of non-whites helping people too so I can shove it in my friend's face!

(I found the name of the other Thai place off of Dallas-Acworth Hwy... it's called Takashi. Shamefully, though, they don't have basil rolls on the appetizer menu! What the heck?!)

We've eaten at Thai Mango several times and enjoyed it. There's also a new Thai place off of Dallas-Acworth Hwy near Cedarcrest... we've eaten there and I can't remember the name of it. Does anyone know? It's in the same complex where the former Martino's was (not the same building, but nearby). Their chicken masaman curry is amazing!

The code was P0500. And ya know... you are 100% right. That's what we should've done. But, I should've posted this a week ago -- or better yet, a year ago when this nightmare first started -- because today we took it to a different America's Service Station and got exactly $841 worth of repairs. They did claim they made some repairs on the cluster gauge, so now we just have to take it through the requisite drive cycles over the next few days and see what happens. If it fails, we have a whole 'nother year to solve the problem, and if/when we can afford it, we will take it to Nissan, not A.S

I know... this all smells fishy to us. I think you're right and everyone is trying to screw us over. Not the least of whom is our own government. sigh

Thanks so much for all your input. Since DH's birthday is on Friday and we're running out of time, we ended up taking it to a repair shop and telling them to give us exactly $841 worth of emission-related crap and we'll just get the waiver to buy us another year. We thought about selling the car and buying another one, but that's just ridiculous considering we KNOW this car is in great shape and will last us at least another 100,000 miles. That's kinda what I was thinkin'... but hey, I'm no mechanic.... That may be why they're saying the car isn't putting out excessive emissions (but still won't pass b/c of the cluster gauge)? This is why this whole thing feels like a scam to me. Go after the cars that ARE putting out high levels of emissions... not cars like this with a random problem that won't cause the readiness codes to pass, even though it's completely non-emission-related.

If that includes this mysterious part they're saying we need, and/or the on-board computer, then I am all over this... THANK YOU!

I will ask my husband in the morning... he's got a computer hooked up to it that tells exactly what the problem is. All I remember is that he needs a new cluster gauge, which is either $5,000 new, or $3,500 from a salvaged car (with no warranty -- and no guarantee it will fix the problem). Hmmmmmm.... now you're thinking creatively... we'd need to get comprehensive insurance on it again though or we'd just be screwed! The problem is that because of this supposedly faulty (and very expensive) part, even taking it through the perfect drive cycle will cause the check-engine light to go off the instant the readiness codes are reset. So even if we reset it and drove straight to an emission place, it would fail, because of the readiness code which will never show as a "pass" because of this faulty part. It's a federal mandate? so it's just for metropolitan cities of a certain size, or what? I know a lot of people in other states don't have to have emission tests, so I assumed it was a state-by-state thing. One of my friends suggested we go to Channel 11 or 46 with this. My first thought was, obviously the story would've been done already if many other people had this issue. But I've found out that several of our friends have gone through the same thing, and like us, they just laid back and took it... so now I'm thinking this is worth putting some pressure on the legislature via the media.

My boys will love this kind of thing when they're old enough! Are there library activities that a young toddler (15 months) would enjoy? storytime etc.? I checked the Paulding County Library website a while back and couldn't find anything about activities like that.

Unbelievable. Starting next Friday, we will be unable to legally drive a car my husband has owned since 2000, unless we spend 5x its worth on a useless "repair." The reason? It won't ever pass an emissions test because of a single computer code (a so-called "readiness code" which may not even be repairable). Perfect instructions, except you DO want to use animal fat to season. I have seven pieces of cast iron, with the 12" skillet being the one that was owned by my great-great-great-grandmother in the 1850's. It's still in perfect condition, thanks in large part to generous use of animal fat over the decades. I use kosher salt to scrub out anything that doesn't wipe right out, then heat over the stove after rubbing some animal fat (lard or bacon grease) generously to keep it well-seasoned. With this kind of care, I expect it to be in great shape for another 150+ years and beyond.

We have stopped going to Hiram much because we've been pulled over by police for non-ticketable issues, and every time we're there it seems there are blue lights everywhere. Well, now I know why. We went to a Hiram restaurant this evening and our server told us that Hiram is becoming a crime center. Completely agree. I'm sick of these "seeker-friendly," trying-to-appeal-to-idiots "churches" that keep sprouting up, using shock-value marketing campaigns to try to lure people in. Pastor Steve, if you're reading this, that is a STUPID campaign idea!
