  1. Better be careful...this could be taken as advertising, and the mods and Pubby have been pretty touchy on the issue lately. ;)

    For the record, I don't see it as advertising....just giving you a heads-up! :)

Thanks. I don't want anyone to make any posts that would lead to sales---just general info.

  2. I thought I would start a thread for Crafters in the area. I'd like to hear what others are making. Also, do you sell your creations or just make things for yourself and family and friends? If anyone's interested we might get together in person some time and chat about crafting!

    I'll start.

Years ago I used to sell my crafts at craft shows. Lately I've thought about listing some things on eBay. Do any of you do that?

  3. Some of the features are way better than anything offered by other companies....such as, you can record shows on your DVR and watch them on any tv in the house, you can record up to 4 programs at a time....it's not available in our area yet, so I haven't gotten to explore all of the options...everything I know is by word of mouth from hubby....

Here's a website with more info:

    AT&T Uverse

I checked out the website. It says that installation may take 4 to 6 hours. What do they do? Does it require a satellite dish?

  4. I have DTV at work and Dish at home...I prefer DTV between the two, but I would check to see if AT&T Uverse is available at your house....I hear that's waaaay better than either of those. (could be bc hubby installs it everyday!) :p

We got an ad (booklet) in the mail for AT&T U-verse. Currently we have AT&T for internet and home phone. How does AT&T U-verse differ from what they have offered recently (what we had with Bellsouth)?

We have Comcast cable but we've had problems with reception lately. Does anyone have AT&T U-verse for TV?

  5. It's crazy to be reading about so many other people having problems with Comcast! My husband and I just cancelled our service with Comcast this morning. We've been having problems ever since we upgraded to the digital starter package--On Demand doesn't work, the remote randomly stops working, the guide feature doesn't work, etc. We even had Comcast deliver a new box. It still doesn't work. We have our phone and internet through AT&T and on Tuesday we will have our cable through AT&T as well (DirecTV). It was about $50 cheaper per month to do the bundle.

How much is it to have it all through AT&T? Was it an introductory rate where the price will go up later?

  6. I'm sorry that you feel that way. Like was said before, everyone has a different "fit" when it comes to churches. Pastor Steve can't possibly know who's visiting for the first, second, or third time. There are just too many people for him to know everyone. He always stands at the doors as you are exiting, that's how we met him. We walked up to him, said hello, and introduced ourselves. Now he does speak to us, but not everytime he walks by. He's got a lot going on before the service. They do have small groups, but you have to make a move to participate. We haven't gotten involved in the small groups, but that's because we haven't made an effort to join one. For us, the message he brings is why we are there, which always holds our attention and benefits us in some way. Maybe you could give it another try if you enjoyed his messages. Introduce yourself to him as you are leaving and you may have a different view. Just trying to encourage you. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences. We did enjoy the messages, but the church we went to before moving to Paulding County had a prayer group, Bible study classes, and social activities for all ages; so we decided to look for a church that offers more along those lines.

  7. I haven't tried this yet, but I plan to. I've seen it on different websites so I'm not sure who created the recipe. FlyLady has a slightly different version on her website. I also saw a recipe for a chocolate mug cake that I plant to try. It uses flour, oil, an egg, cocoa, etc.

"Betty Crocker ‘Warm Delights’ at $1.39 each

You can get about 7 batches

    from just 1-$1 cake mix.

    My substitute:

use any flavor of cake mix you like.

have a supply of ‘flavors’, syrups, jams or ice-cream sundae sauces (choc.,

strawberry, pineapple, my favorit)marshmallow syrup, dry coconut, etc.

a can or two of canned frostings if you like (optional)

Recipe: at a ratio of 1 serving of Dry cake mix to 1/2 serving of water and

mixing, add the special sauce or ingredient of your choice, swirl it

through cake mix several times. Top with the final topping (Chocolate

syrup, etc.), bake in microwave oven for just seconds. Enjoy!

Here are samples I love to make and eat!

    1:

1/2 cup Dry chocolate cake mix, 1/4 cup water, Mix until smooth. Drop a

heaping tablespoon of canned chocolate fudge icing and swirl through cake

mix. Top with marshmallow syrup (a jar of marshmallow cream that I dilute

with several spoons of water and stir till it will pour).

Bake in microwave for approximately 55-65 seconds.

    2:

2/3 cup yellow cake mix, 1/3 water. Mix until smooth. Drop in sweetened

coconut, swirl. Top with marshmallow syrup. Bake in microwave for anywhere

from 60 to 75 seconds. Eat and enjoy!

The only thing tricky about this recipe is to remember that whatever

measurement of cake mix you use, be sure to use 1/2 that same measure of

water. Be sure your cooking dish will hold the amount of cake (it rises and

can run over) and watch the baking time. Different amounts and different

sauces can cause it to need a few seconds more of baking time.

Stick a fork into the cake part to see if it looks like baked cake, if not,

add a few seconds cooking time. NEVER measure the cooking time in MINUTES!

Get inventive and try different combinations. Really good and Cheap!"

  8. The set top box 'knows' that you are subscribed. if the signal drops below a certain value the receiver can not decode then it defaults to the "one moment please". It appears that you have some signal strength issues. Every splitter in line drops the signal somewhere between 3.5 dB up to 7/10 dB depending on the quality of the splitter. most cable companies only use the premium splitter to seperate your TV signal from your internet and then the cheaper ones. Now start with a weak signal at your house due to poor cabling (corroded couplings, split insulation, old leaky fittings and cable, etc) and then combine splitters, long cable runs etc in your house the signal degrades to a point that it can not 'trigger' the receiver to turn on. I also guess you have digital boxes which at a certain point blues out rather than continue to show a bad picture (analog box).

How to troubleshoot, run a single cable from the NID (network interface device or cable box outside your house) to the TV set top box that is "off" at the moment. If it recovers, it's your house wiring. The more electrical noise that is near the cable the more loss or rather noise intrusion you have. Use premium quad shielded RG-6 and compression fittings, not connectors that you have sqeezed with a rusty pair of vise grips.

Once you have ascertained that your house wiring is in good shape ask the CC for a amplifier on your TV line (not on the modem side). A amp may help when you have bad wiring but an amplifier will amplify everything on the line INCLUDING the noise.

    Thanks!

What are the large greenish rectangle shaped boxes that are along the street? Some of the newer ones look like small coffins. I noticed that one across the street from where we live looks old. I saw where the street had been marked with spray paint and that makes me think it is going to be replaced.

  9. A while back, one of my tvs got a littlle trashy. they replaced the splitter. cleared up picture.

try swapping the cables on the splitter and see if your problem moves to the other tv. If so, you probably have a bad splitter. If not it could be the cable or your tv.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking it's the cable service because of the message: "One Moment Please..." I mentioned above, but don't understand why it would appear on just one of our TVs when they are in the same house...

  10. For quite sometime we've been having problems with our Comcast Cable TV service. We have 2 TV hooked up. Sometimes the TV downtown stairs has some interference on a few channels, but the one upstairs has major problems. At times certain channels, especially USA and Lifetime, although others, too, have too much of a scrambled effect to watch anything. The TV upstairs is the newest (about 2 years old). A couple of days ago the weather channel wasn't on upstairs. There was a message on the screen saying: "One Moment Please This Channel Should Be Available Shortly." I went dowstairs and the weather channel was on on that TV; walked back upstairs and the message was still on. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Lately it's gotten worse instead of better. I know I can phone Comcast, but thought I would ask here first.

  11. Pastor Steve almost always makes an announcement welcoming first time visitors and telling them to meet with him after the service on the way out for a free gift! That is how we met him too.

The only thing I ever heard announced about visitors when we were there was him asking them to fill out a card (no gift mentioned). The assimilation pastor, Bill Edger, was the one who always shook hands with us as we were leaving. He seemed very nice and friendly.

  12. My husband and I have been there and enjoyed the services. We attended for several weeks, but realized with no Sunday School, Bible classes, or get-togethers for couples without children the opportunities to meet and interact with other Christians were really limited. For example: they had a pizza party, but it was linked to parenting classes. The pastor would hold our interest during his messages, but I only saw him talking to people he already knew. At one service my husband had an aisle seat and I was sitting next to him and was hoping to meet the pastor, but he walked beside us without saying a word while I looked right at him. They are suppose to have small groups, but the churches we've attended before offered much more---more opportunities to learn about the Bible and---and make friends.

  13. No offense but broccoli cereal-Ewwww. Im into Cheerios-Mainly because Its all I can have,Cholesterol and trigylerides dangerously high :(

I've never tasted the broccoli in it. On the front it says: "Toasted Graham & Vanilla." It also has ginger in it so those are more of the flavors you taste.

Kashi also has a toasted oat cereal that looks somewhat like Cheerios that is approved by the American Heart Association.

  14. My wife was on me for years. My Dad had to go into hospital and he found out he had severe lung issues from apnea. I had the sleep test done and I have had mine for about a year and a half, it has been wonderful. I feel rested every night, my wife is happy I actually sleep in OUR bed instead of upstairs. Sure, I had a little adjustment period and I developed sores from the nose pillows a couple of times. I use the humidifier and clean it often. I haven't had the sores in many months!

That's great! I have an Aloe Vera plant and I have started using the fresh gel from inside the leaves for my nose since using CPAP. There's also nasal gel labeled for CPAP use. One brand is Ayr. One of its ingredients is Aloe Vera.
