  1. Born and raised in Augusta, GA. Lived in Colo Springs for 18 mos and moved here in '96. Lived in Powder springs before buying a house here in the country! I really like Paulding!

  2. Someone sent this to me, and I'm passing it along...

The other day, someone at a store in a small town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I told him that I did have a drug problem when I wuz a kid growing up on the farm when I was young:

I was drug to church on Sunday morning . I was drug to church for weddings and funerals . I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults . I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink if I uttered a profane four-letter word . ( I do know what Lye soap tastes like.) I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flowerbeds and cockleburs out of dad's fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one, to mow the yard, repair the clothesline or chop some fire wood, and if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think . They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroin, and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America might be a better place today.

(Can I getta Amen to that?)

  3. OK, I need to know. How does the Jello help with stinky feet? I have a teenage nephew who could use this one. Or his dad could! Kid has to remove his shoes and socks in the garage and RUN to the bathroom to wash his feet when he gets home! They still stink...

  4. Just a note folks: if you look at the ingredients in Mucinex, you'll see that it's the same as Robitussin. Guaifenisin used to be called "GI gin" when my husband was in the service because that's what they always gave you for a cough. It's an expectorant to help loosen the stuff making you cough. The DM is dextromethorphan to quiet coughs and is in robitussin DM. I've been taking the Wal-mart brand which is $2 for 8 ounces.

If you really hate taking the cheap liquid, robitussin comes in cough gels now, too. They're nice for diabetics since they have no sugar.

  5. ajhunton, been there done that! My kids are grown now so I know you will live through it. Many times my best friend (3 kids) and I (2 kids) would take the whole crew so the other could rest. She has often said that it worked out that we were never crazy or broke at the same time so that we could rescue each other!

Put on some beach music, throw a blanket on the floor and have a picnic. My kids loved to do that and we would turn the dining room chairs over, throw blankets over them and make caves and play houses. Makes a mess but saves your sanity!

  6. I teach in Cherokee. Same thing there. Cough and sore throats, some fever. Lots of kids out recently. I'm home with very sore throat and cough now. Fortunately, I'm off until next Wednesday...

  7. My son leaves tonight at 6 pm for Belgium. I'm nervous after listening to the reports about the de-icing difficulties at Hartsfield. Please say a prayer for him and all the others on the plane...
