  1. OK right about the AM part and IF you show up here at that time it may be YOU who will be skerrt. I would let Demon and Angel out and ask questions later.

Now I AM SKEEERT!! But remember, I would only show up at that hour if YOU called. I really do need my beauty sleep . ;)

  2. In "let the punishment fit the crime", there is no punishment for the executioner, since there's no crime. You still don't get the concept of "eye for an eye", do you? It doesn't imply that any particular punishment is in order, just that if there is punishment, it shouldn't exceed the severity of the crime.

Duh!! I said capital crimes for an example since we were discussing death penalty. That would mean as I said only these cases warrant the ultimate punishment. Where as petty theft would never warrant this penalty. As far as the executioner, no the public would not punish him, but what about God? If they were Muslim then what about Alah? He may have to answer to them even though he WAS ONLY doing his job, you are still responsible for your actions IF they are wrong. You need to work on your reading comprehension.

  3. Me I do not have to call 911 to see you and I'm not skerrt at all. :D

I do not think you have seen me at 2:30 AM.

Novella, I promise to put something in there for her next time. I did have a Tootsie Pop in my truck though.

  4. "An eye for an eye" does not mean what many death penalty proponents think that it means.

It is more aimed at "ONLY an eye for an eye". In context, what was happening was that people were getting their hands chopped off for stealing food, for instance. A person's eye's were put out for looking at a woman in the wrong way. The lesson of "an eye for an eye" is "put the person's eye out if he blinded someone else, not if he looked at someone incorrectly." And even that is not required, but the maximum penalty should be eye for eye, which means, "Let the punishment fit the crime".

You are correct in this. Now remember the death penalty sentance is for capital crimes only. So, while in some of those 5 deadly the punishment would exceed the crime, it is kind of hard to kidnap or rape someone for punishment. Well I guess you could let someone else rape them. but that is a whole different story. And if you will notice that, while I do not object to death penaltys, I do see the reason we may want to just confine them instead. My question would have to be who judges the executioner?

  5. Well at least Cobb is in the top 5 for dispatch to arrival time. That I can impact, dispatch not so much. So just think ladies, If you lived in Cobb and called 911 at 0230 in less than 6 minutes you could be looking at me. Now if that dosen't scare you at 0230 then nothing will. :p

  6. If its not self defense or vehicular homicide, then its murder which deserves death. Malice and 1st Degree....I did not see a difference sitting through the trial. When you intend to kill someone, their no reason your life should be spared.

  7. 24:20 - [in Context|Original Hebrew]

fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him.

Tow I agree with your feelings on this. Just because we have the proof of the crime does not mean we HAVE to carry out the penalty. We can give them life in prison. I think that there are too many rights and privledges in prison though.

    Also remember

    Passage Luke 6:37:

37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

  8. I wear my watch and wedding band 98.8% of the time. I take 1 or both off only if I am doing something that requires their removal. ie. working on an engine. My job requires I wear a nonmetalic watch so I have a a cloth and leather strap. I will just take my chances on being burned by my ring. We did have one male FF get burned very badly because of his ring. Only because his glove came off though. SW likes to take hers off for a variety of reasons. I just think it is more common for women to do so.

  9. I believe it was Teresa Heinz Kerry (who was born in East Africa) who told one of those black leaders during his husband's campaign after the guy had referred to himself as a African-American, "I'm African-American. I was born in Africa. From what part of Africa were you born?"

The question that remains is, what is it exactly that so many people see that wants them to be able to claim this "African ancestry"? Is there some perk or bonus. Does it get them into places that they otherwise would not be able to. Hmmm. There must be something to this. And here I was thinking that we are all equal under the law.

  10. So if the store "lets" me buy cigs there - is it ok to throw a butt out in their parking lot too? I normally agree with you DIS - but this one makes no sense to me.

That is a pretty big leap there Baritone. I would liken it more to, if the store let someone buy cigareetes there, they smoked them and when finished, the store would let folks put the butts on your windshield. Yeah, I know it is a really odd concept. Then I would be fine with throwing the butt on the ground for the store to clean up. I was just trying to stat with Baritones thought. ;) In reality the 2 scenarios really are not the same. Better yet, if the store sold food at a snack bar but did not provide a trash can, then littering would almost become mandatory.

  11. The store doesn't "let" them - they just have better things to do then watch the parking lot 24/7

Then by act of ommission they let them. I do understand better things to do though. But then again the big blue will not let us collect for the fire fighters burn foundation on their property but they do not seem to care about this?

  12. My last day with the police department, before switching to the FD, I was literally on may way back to the pricint when some yahoo threw a plastic snack wrapper out the passenger window. I'm not kidding here, we were in front of the precint and I was going home. The wrapper hit my windshield and I just could not contain myself. I pulled him over in our parking lot. Turned out the driver was driving on a suspended license, the passenger was wanted and there was crack in the car.  . Plus they got a ticket for littering. The major came outside as my back up. He teased me pretty hard about not just pulling them over in the saliport. (where you unload prisoners) Needless to say some folks ar not too bright.

And I will say that I go out of my way not to litter. Things have come out of the back of my truck before. I will throw out the ocassional chicken bone, always in a wooded area never someones yard. They are biodegradable which is more than I can say for cigarette butts. But I have never, to the best of my recollection thrown garbage out of my window. I will toss those flyers folks leave on my windshield down on the parking lot though. I figure if the store lets someone put it on my windshield then they can pickit up. <_>

  13. you are so right about this, when we go riding and I look down at the interesections all I see is cig butts, and then of course i seen where people have had wrecks and the ones who are supose to clean it up, sweep it in the middle of the intersection, or to the curb... that is a pet peeve of mine...\

Yeah that happens alot. The FD is not responsible for the clean up. We are responsible for leaving the scene safe though. We will sweep & pick up debris on most wrecks though just to expidite clearing the scene for traffic. We have been known to dump the debris in a vehicle's trunk. The towtruck driver is supposed to get the debris.

  14. K, I smoke...and let me just tell you that most vehicles now have ashtrays as "options". Having said that, I don't smoke on school property, especially while the kids are there and I don't throw my butts down. I field strip them, stomp on the "fire" to put it out and pocket the butt to dispose of later in a trash can.

If I can do that, then so can every other smoker.

:yahoo: :good: :clapping: Thank you for being a responsible smoker. I really do appreciate it.

  15. I meant silly as in it is silly to get out in do this.

Actually she threw the still lit half cigarette out right in front of me and my 2 children as we were going in. All I had to do was keep walking bend over and pick it up. I took the picture of the nice lady's car as we left. ;) Littering is a pet peeve left from my PD days. Throwing lit cigarette butts out the window really chaps me. Smoking is a digusting habit that you can do to your hearts content as long as you keep it to yourself. I can not begin to tell you how many roadside brushfires I have put out while on duty. Not many grassy areas spontaneously catch fire. ;) Finally, next time you are sitting at redlight intersection with curbs, look down. These folks treat OUR world like their very own personal ashtray. I won't allow my kids to throw out a gumwrapper, why should I tolerate this?

  16. That is one digusting habit you got there. <_ throwing your cigarette butt out right in front of the school bus boarding area. yeah that was me came over and picked it up you. next time i promise extinguish on paint job how about you use ashtray vehicle instead using our grounds as own personal ashtray.>

  17. I'm allergic to cats, dogs and horses. Only cats bother me. I have been told it is the saliva that we react to. Cats continually lick themselves so it is all over their hair. Dogs and horses do not do this. Unless my wife wanted me to sneeze, wheeze and have swollen eyes, her cat stayed out while I was there and she washed her hands after handling it. We do not have any cats now, but she says she understands. :D

  18. For those that do this...

The curb is clearly marked as a Fire lane. You can/should get a ticket. Or better yet...

    car-fire-hose.png

I can just see me trying to explain that to my chief. We even get complained on when we park the truck in the fire lane on calls. We try to turn off the lights if we do not need them. They really cause more of a distraction than a benefit when you are on scene. I have written many tickets for that though. My rule of thumb was to write the ticket then call for a case #. If you came out after that you got a ticket. If you came out before, you got your butt chewed out. ;)

  19. An Akita!! What a wonderful and loyal breed. We used to raise and show these. Our 5 were Athena, Thor, Artemis, Appolo and Cinder.

Thor and cinder looked like their "great gandpa"

    Hachiko's story

In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno didn't return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting.

Hachikō was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. After time, Hachikō apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachikō waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he didn't see his friend among the commuters at the station.

The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. Realizing that Hachikō waited in vigil for his dead master, their hearts were touched.[citation needed] They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait.

This continued for 10 years, with Hachikō appearing only in the evening time, precisely when the train was due at the station

Helen Keller brought the first Akita to the US.
