  1. LOL! TC.....ok ok..I'm too tired to 'spain.......let's just wait 'til tomorrow eve for what actually happens?
  2. Yes, but they are basing their predictions on Atlanta. I'm tellin' ya TC..I used to work at the NWS office in Nashville--I know how this stuff works.....LOL
  3. Ok, also, you guys should note that 1/2" of freezing rain will be a MAJOR problem here. That is a LOT of ice on things like power lines and trees. I drove through the massive devastation of the ice storm in the central US last time and there were literally trees piled all along the roadways that had been knocked over. One week later, power lines were still not all repaired.
  4. Ok, keep in mind the news stations are mostly reporting for ATLANTA, not Dallas/Hiram. The issue is that the snow band moves almost hourly as they look at different computer models. The majority of the models put Paulding in the 6-12" range for snow and then actually unknown amounts of ice on top of that. What you are getting is the movement of the model forecasts each hour, so that is why the different forecasts. As the low moves (ie, by morning/early aft) they will have a better idea of what we're in for. HOWEVER, we WILL NOT KNOW the actual forecast on this until it occurs. Remember, on Chr
  5. Please remember to feed the birds during this time! What to feed? Black oil sunflower seed (Elrods has it for $20 for a 50lb bag, or Tractor supply same price for a 40lb bag), suet, safflower seed (in theory, the squirrels don't like it-in real life, they'll eat anything!) but the cardinals love it so we feed it anyway! Avoid any 'wild bird mixes' that are made mostly of the little ball type seeds called millet. That will draw in unwanted birds such as sparrows and starlings that compete with our native bird species for food and housing. We also toss out a large bag of cracked or whole corn
  6. Here comes FARA Claus... PLEASE vote for FARA TODAY!!!!
  7. Did you stay up to watch the eclipse? You know if you did, it's past midnight and time to vote again for FARA! Please help change the lives of these children! http://contact.bonefishgrill.com/Give_Get_Win_Voting.aspx
  8. I would like to thank all of you who voted today! It only takes one second! PLEASE vote for FARA!
  9. FA is sort of complicated really--BOTH parents have to carry the gene to make the disease present itself.MANY people actually carry the gene, but the chances of two of them having a child with it is very slim. I, for example, am a carrier as is one of my sons, but my husband is not, so the children do not have the disease. We did not know about all this before we had children or we would have done genetic testing on him before we had kids. At any rate, I noticed when my niece was visiting at age five-ish that 'something' was terribly wrong with her balance. I had great experience with children
  10. It runs until 1/10/11. And, yes, you can vote EACH DAY for FARA! It makes a huge difference.....if only you could meet my niece...typical 10 year old until you watch her attempt to walk. Sharp as a tack mentally, but her body is failing her. It's a terrible genetic disease!
  11. some of you know that my niece was diagnosed with Freidrich's Ataxia. A TERRIBLE genetic disease that will take her beautiful life from her. PLEASE vote for FARA on this contest to earn funds for research. Very little is known, so every cent spent is important. I'd super appreciate it if you would pass this along on your facebook pages? Remember, VOTE FOR FARA! http://contact.bonefishgrill.com/Give_Get_Win_Voting.aspx
  12. Husband has to be up in one hour to drive to Alpharetta. Trying to get a feeling for what (if any) roads are open.
  13. Oh, it's Towhee....here's a site that might be useful: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/search
  14. The birds haven't gone anywhere. Seed eaters are feasting on the fall seed crops from plant sthat have seeded out for dropping winter seeds. Bug eaters are eating the bugs that came around with the warm up in temps. They'll return to your suet and seed soon.
  15. Memorial Service for Keith Burns: December 4th at 10:00 am Savior of All Lutheran Church 35 Indian Trail SE ...Cartersville, GA 770-387-0379 Service is open to all, but the family would like to let the church know how many to expect. Please RSVP to Daniel Herron @ danielherron@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
  16. FROM FB: We want to thank everyone who helped search for Keith Burns during the last 9 days. We knew he had friends in and out of the Atlanta Astronomy Club, but we were overwhelmed by the number of people who called Keith their friend. Many thanks to the following; The Atlanta Astronomy Club (Daniel H, Ruana L, Sharon C, etc) and many other members of the club which are too numerous to mention, people he worked with (Sharon S), Diabetic Support Group at Piedmont Hospital, The Cobb County Police (especially Detective MarkB ), his friends outside the club, all the search and rescue people
  17. FROM THE FB PAGE: Keith's Brother just called me and I do not have any new details to share. They are preparing a statement to us and I will post it as soon as I get it. He did want me to extend their thanks for all the work we did and all the support we have given to the family. And they ask that if anyone visits the park for any rea...son to please stay off the private property around the park as the family that owns the property is afraid of being inundated with visitors. Please respect the family's wishes.
  18. If you see the FB page, you will see how we feel about the police's job handling this. No worries, we have the same question.
  19. At this time we do NOT have any details. CERT volunteers found his body around 10am. Will post details as they become available. Please see FB page for updates. As for the comment about searching earlier-we tried. We were unable to convince police to use CERT until now.
  20. yeah, it was discussed earlier. I don't know if it was totally abnormal or if he forgot it occasionally. The FB page is probably the best place for that answer.
  21. Good Day Atlanta picked up the story this am: http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Volunteers-to-Search-for-Missing-Amateur-Astronomer-20101118-am-sd
