  1. Here is an excerpt from one of my posts from yesterday. It might help shed some light on the reason people are questioning the "new" leadership and why County employees like my friend are angry right now. And before the question is even asked, yes this is factual information.

"I think the real problem here is the good 'ole boy system that still seems to embrace everything. My friend, who works for the County, told me that after the layoffs that occurred in March, the County turned around and hired two employees that were former employees of the new County Administrator. One was a director of a department that had not had a director for a couple of years. So if the department had gone two or so years with no director, why did it have to have one right after others lost their jobs to layoffs? It sounds like they laid off existing employees so they could hire a buddy to a high paying position to me. That is not good business, and the employees see it and know it. I wonder what the layoffs this week will clear room for. Our County just boots people out the door, some longtime, loyal employees, and give them nothing at all to thank them for their service. That's ridiculous and embarrassing for all of us, not to mention just plain wrong."

Also factual is the fact that the County Administrator has hired a total of three of his former employees to County positions, all while 30+ employees have been laid off. If layoffs are necessary, why is anyone being hired other than critical emergency service personnel?

I have discussed this before also. David Austin is guilty of hiring a former employee also while county employees holding similar positions were let go. I know quite a few county employees and they are shaking their heads at some of the things this administration is doing.

  2. Oh well....we will have to agree to disagree. I am very much in disagreement with you about the leadership of our county and about how, as you say, that they ultimately look out for "their" best interests.

I continue to understand why more people don't run for public office..............

Very well then. I have entertained the thought of running for public office at some point. On a side note my nephew finally found a job at Starbucks that he seems to enjoy. It seems to have the potential for some social outlets which he needs. During his time looking for employment, he did manage to run up a $1700 internet bill. Seems he ran over a certain threshhold for downloadables and AT&T decided to extend credit to his mothers account to continue with the gaming. I'm suprised his mother didn't end up in the hospital after getting the bill.

  3. I understand - I have been in the "professional world" for about 30 years now and I understand fully some of the measures that are taken during budget crises'. Can you please tell me EXACTLY how Paulding County has not exhausted most every effort to cut the budget short of having layoffs? Are you at the county offices every day of the week to observe and offer constructive criticism? As for the airport, do you not understand what an impact it will have on the future of our county, thus the obvious reason for the personnel?

Have you regularly attended county commission meetings and voiced your concerns? If you have, kudos to you! I think I might have met you one time when I met you at Publix and donated some items to your nephews cause (worthy cause might I add) but I'm not sure I would recognize you if you were at the meetings.

I understand the concern but what I don't understand is constant criticism without any viable, credible remedies.

I have both attended meetings when possible and viewed the meetings on Comcast. I have also emailed my Commissioner to voice my concerns. However, I recognize the fact that this County, as well as others, are run in cases by a small group of people that ultimately will look out for their best interests. I do think David Austin is taking a look a critical look at a lot of things but until we have some new blood at Commission post level its more of the same as far as I am concerned. I'm just really tired of the good ole boy cronyism that is prevalent everywhere including Paulding County.

  4. I understand about the Open RECORDS Request quite clearly; however, I am very unclear on how you or anyone else can explain the FULL SCOPE of any of our county employee's duties and responsbilites which accompany their salaries. I mean, do they work a standard 40 hour work week or do they work an 80 hour work with (with or without overtime pay)? Are there things that are expected of them outside the 40 hour work week which we would need to take into consideration?

Why are you the Judge and Juror as to why they don't deserve the salaries they receive - are you relying simply on what you are hearing?

I pay LOTS of county taxes also and I feel that my family and I also have a voice; however, I do believe our county leaders are doing the best they can with the resources they have. I try my very best to stay informed and attend county commission meetings when my schedule allows and I truly think they are doing the best they can.

It's common practice in industry to consolidate departments to achieve maximum savings during budget crises; I think County government should be no exception. I have not heard to date of the County looking into doing anything like this. Additionally, there are a lot of Counties that do have an independent Airport Department and other Counties have it rolled up under the their County's DOT areas. It was just example. I could cite others. Heck for that matter we could save some $$$ and just have have one Commissioner like Bartow or Cheroke has.

I am glad you are so enthusiastic about the County government and elected officials. I am a taxpayer too and want to ensure that our County leaders have done everything possible before asking the taxpayers for additional money especially considering the prior regime was partially responsible for the mess this County is in.

  5. Wow - why can't our leaders just "wave their magic wand" and make all these economic woes just go away? Good grief....can someone please explain (in detail) how Paulding County can sidestep all these economic issues that are affecting our entire country and make our special little county "immune" to issues that are affecting our entire country? Please don't give me SPECULATION on salaries, etc,....give me FACTS!!!!

I personally applaud our county leadership - I realize they are having to make some very tough decisions right now that none of us personally would want to make. God Bless them and thank you to all our county leaders and employees for the jobs you are doing in making our "little corner of the world" a great place to live.

Salary information is available under Open Access Request. Request it yourself and see.

  6. THey need to take a serious look at consolidating some departments and getting rid of some of those high dollar director positions with $100,000 plus salaries. do we really need a department of one with a $100,000 plus salary like the airport department. This should be consolidated under the county's DOT area.

  7. You are so right Anita, spending in Paulding goes to our SPLOST we see direct benefits to spending here!

It helps keep our taxes down, it means so much to our county to wait a mile or 2 to get gas or pick up something at the store.

Paulding offers o much that many think they can only get at malls.

Your store as an example offers everything that you need for medical dissabilities.

Not to mention Pak-n-pink for women, bra fittings and maternity.

We have great little boutiques like Judy B's.

The best restaurants and meeting places!

My experience with our commerce members has been that they go above and beyond.

    Yourself included!

I love Judy B's. If we only had more non chain restaurants, I'd be set.

  8. Share please. we just talked about making pizza last night but don't like the pre-made crusts.

This is from the back of a White Lily flour bag:

    1 pkg active yeast

    1 14/4 cup warm water (105-115 degrees) 3 1/4 cups bread flour

    1 tsp salt

    1 tbsp sugar

    1 tbsp olive oil

dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl and set aside

Combine flour, salt and sugar add to yeast mixture. Stir well. Add olive oil

Stir about 3 minutes until smooth dough forms. Place ball in a well greased bowl and cover and let rise an hour in a warm place until doubled.

Punch down and divid into 2 equal portions. Cover and let rrest for 10 minutes.

Press into pans and cover and let rise for 20 minutes.

Add topings and let cook on 425 25-30 minutes until done.

  9. I totally agree with you! Atlanta is worse than Detroit? How was this calculated? The ratio of crime to the population...X amount of personal crimes to X amount of people or what? I go to Atlanta alot and can't remember one time I have felt unsafe. Well, thats not exactly true...I was at work with Hubby one time about 10:30 on a Saturday night and he got a call to re-connect power to an apt on New Town Circle, the road that runs right next to the Federal Pen. Really, really bad place. He told me to lock the doors and not open them for anybody other than another GPC worker or the police. That is one time I listened to him!!!!!!!!!!

How about Washington DC?? SCARY!!!!!!! And it gets that way fast from one block to the next.

    Birmingham?!?! Really?!?!?

Lots of black on black violence in the Section 8 housing. Very high per capita murder rate but most of it is gang related and in the rough parts of B'ham.

  10. There is an article on the ajc site about this. Second only to Memphis. I'm not surprised, I've never really felt safe going into Atlanta or most other areas in the Atlanta area. We've never had any problems in Paulding though thank goodness but it is interesting to note that GA had a very high petty crime rate.

  11. Prayers being said for this young man.........this is truly a tragic situation.........With the way the economy is and everything right now that is like telling them "You can starve to death." We have always had the belief that we wouldn't care if our kids were 40 and needed a place to live they would ALWAYS have one.

That is the exact feeling we have towards our son. I think that with the economy and our country going the way it is it will become much more common to see 2-3 generations living under one roof again.

  12. I understand why folks want to remarry and get on with their lives, but when they do it at the expense of their children it is despicable. The only thing I hope for them is that someday they will reap what they sow. I liked the comment about the child support checks ending. Too bad the child probably saw little to none of it, but at least the good ole parents won't be getting it any longer.

The boy wore rags most of the time. Whatever clothes, toys, laptop given to him over the years disappeared or were given to her children. We are glad he is finally 18 and out of the situation. There are previous posts in Paulding Place that go into more details if you want background.

  13. Winston I am sorry I haven't been able to get those clothes for him yet. I have not been back to my place in almost 3 weeks, but hope to be able to get everything moved into storage within the next few weeks.

Anything is still greatly appreciated. Depsite his mom and grandmother buying him clothes periodically, he left with what he had which was about 4-5 shirts and 3-4 pants. Either his dad took them and wore them or they were sold.

The thought now is that the screaming and hollering from the dad and stepmom will come next week or so since he was not there this weekend to do their errands clean the house and it is expected that things will get reallyinteresting when the child support check doesn't show up from mom since he's moved out.

Wanted to add that we've seen the boy wearing sweatpants in the middle of the summer in the past, now it makes sense, he didn't have anyhting else to wear more than likely
