  1. Here s what I believe-

Existence of God- verdict is still out on that one

I believe that a person's rights extend to the point that it does not inflict harm to someone else person or property- therefore no murder, rape, theft etc.

I think that the death penalty is wrong but am pro-choice (life vs. potential life)

I believe that consentual adults have the right to do what whatever they so please

I believe that all sentient beings have the right to ihhabit this earth and do not subscibe the philosophy that man is the ruler of the world and animals are here to do with as they see fit (support ethical treatment of all animals, especially animals raised for human consumption)

I respect the right of other people to believe as they see fit, as long as those beliefs do not translate into actions that infringe upon my person, etc.

Money is the root of all evil, I am very unmaterialistic

I do not believe in a literal hell or heaven, but believe that the moments leading up to death can be very tranquil (I've lived a good life) or very disturbing (full of remorse, etc)

Believe in the concepts of karma (love the Earl show)

  2. I was raised in a Christian church but my own exploration of the bible combined with studies of religions raises many questions and has resulting in my own culmination of beliefs. Some of the questions, issues and objections I have include the following:

    Things I don't agree with

Oppression of women- 1 Corinthians 11 and 1 Timothy 2:11-15

    Racism- Mark 7: 25-29

    Slavery 1 Peter 2:18

Chldren submitting to parents evil intents- Deuteronomy 21:18-21, Proverbs 13:24, Hebrew 12:7-8

Death of non believers- Exodus 22:19, 2 Chronicles 12-13, Deuteronomy 13:7-12 and 17:2-5

    I don't understand why

Protestants use the Catholic bible if you don't believe in the Pope's divinity

Issues will free will- threats of hell is not free will

Jesus stated he was son of man not son of god (no point in 4 gospels did he refer to himself as son of god)

Many Christian traditions etc. can be traced back to Pagan, Egyptian and Roman, Buddhist traditions (its not original folks)

Christianity just doesn't make sense to me and I don't agree with much of it- take the ten commandments for example, don't see anyone making sure that the punishments outlined in Exodus (?) are followed, very similar to Sharia type laws.

Buddhism makes much more sense to me

  3. TBAR, I have not read through all the posts, but I read enough to know and understand your opinion on this. I agree with you on many points. I, for one, don't believe that getting the Bible into the schools at all costs is the best way. Yet, I cannot really make a judgment of how this will be presented in the schools either.

Should the Bible be a elective literature course? It is historical and it does teach morals. Will its message be diminished? I have no doubt that it may be taught that way, but then this is the Word of God. At one time, the Bible was so sacred that it was only handed by priests. Was it diminished when translated to English and printed so that the common man could have it to read for himself? The words -- God's Words -- are powerful and enlightening in of themselves. I have no doubt that He will protect their true meaning.

Some of my favorites moral points from the bible include the finer points on how to treat your slave and when you can sell your own daughter into slavery, and lets not forget my personal favorites- murder, rape, incest, all in the bible.. Good stuff

  4. The statement that I made was not directed at anyone (referring to hostile Evangelicals) but rather an observation spanning many years. Most people have not come to a place where they are comfortable in their own shoes and are also as comforable with the thought of someone wearing other shoes.. from an old saying- I don't know the source.

Diversity makes the world go round. However, I imagine it won't be to long before the Evangelicals find the following passages concerning the killing and destruction of followers of other religion and non believers and adopt them for their own agenda-

    Exodus 22:19

    2 Chronicles 15: 12-13

    Deuteronomy 13:7-12, 17:2-5

I only note these passages to show some of the similarities between radical Islam and the route the Evangelical movement could deduce itself to one day.

  5. I think this is a great Idea but by posting this in an "open" forum you are also inviting the "hostiles" to see where everyone is meeting and some have reason to fear being "outed." This invitational thing maybe best done through pm's.

    Good luck with the endeavor!

Thanks, hopefully anyone that is interested will PM me and we can get this going.... I prefer not to divulge actual time/place can I knoe someone will take it as their persoanl message to save us heathens.. HA!!!

  6. 1. Book store- BAM,Barnes & Noble,etc.

    2. A Mall

    3. Some good independently owned restaurants

    4. More ethnic restaurants (Indian, Thai)

    5. A business park or two to bring in some jobs

    6. Circuit City/est Buy

    7. A World Market

    8. Tuesday Morning

    9. A Whole Foods or Fresh Market

    10. TJMAXX

Citizens of Paulding county need to be more proactive in telling our county officials what we want and need to make this a better place to live. WE need to stop giving out tax revenues to Cobb county.

Hopefully the demographics in the county can support these in a few years!!

  7. In light of several responses to postings regarding a Unitiarian Universalist Church start up, several people on this board have expressed an interest in the possibility of starting a group for those with alternative beliefs to Christianity whether it be atheism, buddhism, deist, humanist, etc. in Paulding county? Would anyone be interested?

The group could discuss how we got to our current beliefs, managing in an overly, and increasingly hostile Evangelical Christian environment, share and or discuss some interesting books we have read lately on the subject.

If there is sufficient interest we could plan on meeting one evening at Atlanta Bread or whatever fits the majority in Hiram, etc.

    Thought???

  8. I think that the Veda and Koran should also be taight in school. Maybe I'll contact my legislator and I encourage anyone with different religious view to do the same. I want to know which version of the bible do they teach? What about the Catholic bible, that includes some extra books, like the book of Judith? Our Catholic friends needs to be in an uproar over this one because no doubt, this will just be another attempt of the Evangelical Christians to brainwash our children.

  9. I'd love to see a congregation closer to home of sorts. I loved the UU group in B'ham, lots of scientific types, humanists, inter-belief marriages and those disenchanted w/ the intolerance that most churches were breeding all coming together. The topics each week were fabulous- listening to excerpts from the opera Candid and discussing the relevant issues both now and then, speakers from NAACP, etc. Absolutely fabulous....

  10. I just recently moved to Paulding county from AL. I have an MBA and an undergraduate in accounting and marketing with most of my background being in banking and healthcare. Are there very many jobs to be had in Paulding county or do I need to resign myself to looking in Cobb county. I am willing to take a good bit less that what I was making to balance out work/life schedule with husband who commutes into town each day. Any ideas on where I should look in the county for a job would be appreciated. Thanks..
