  1. Ok Paulding people that are interested in the areas of: Spirituality, metaphysics, psychic readings, meditation, prayer circles, paranormal studies, tarot, and all areas generally falling into these categories.... We have started a FaceBook page to allow people to get to know one another and express their specific interests as well as what they hope to see in a group in our area. The hope is to someday soon have a facility to meet and hold meditation classes and circles, psychic development, paranormal interest meetings and studies, as well as many other things. We are currently st
  2. Ok, grammar battles and cliche quotes aside...I, personally, found his article very interesting. Again, thank you, former member, for posting it. The refusal to apologize gives us a feeling of superiority and power over the situation. That makes so much sense to me. To "give" someone an apology is, in effect, giving them the power(so to speak) and can cause a truly apologetic individual to feel powerless and humbled(which is the point, I think...but I digress). When people have such strong ego, and lack the ability to or have too much fear of being "powerless"...being truly apologetic
  3. "Around here"...as in this forum? Or as in somewhere actually IN Paulding county where people meet up? (not hook up, lol) I've been trying to get together a metaphysics, meditation, paranormal, etc group...but for actual meetings and classes and such.
  4. One of my favorite parts of the article... "The enemy of science is not religion. Religion comes in endless shapes and forms. The True Enemy is the substitution of thought, reflection, and curiosity with dogma." Yes...Yes...and Yes.
  5. That's sorta akin to saying that the 2nd amendment doesn't actually support a right to bear assault weapons...as it never specifically mentioned them. Or the prehensile tail...how awesome would that be!! *disclaimer: I know we evolved from apes, not monkeys, and apes don't have prehensile tails. Still...would have been fun! Ha
  6. This is part of the thought process that keeps me going in circles. Yes, we all want to think of ourselves as being "above" the other animals...yet, deep down, we know we are simply Other animals subject to our own evolutionary processes. In accepting that...yes, we will also have to accept the ugly parts of "natural behavior" as well. That's harder to do. I go in circles with it all the time. You are entitled to believe how you wish. I don't have to agree, I respect that.
  7. "My my, aren't we proud." Proud of my use of critical thinking skills and my desire to stretch outside the boundaries of what I might perceive to be "truth" for the sake of educating myself further on all things? Yes, I am, thank you. And I only said "small minds" because there was a person that said it was too deep for their small mind...their words, not mine. It wasn't meant as an insult, I was simply letting this person know that there are people here that enjoy subjects like this. That is all....
  8. I enjoyed the article, and I happen to agree with most of it. I recently saw a documentary about this very subject...very thought provoking, if you're open to that sort of thing. I just wanted to thank you for posting it. There are people here that do not have small minds and do enjoy reading things that encourage critical thinking skills. Regardless whether or not I agree with the subject matter, I love subjects that make me think. So, thank you.
  9. My now 15 year old son has been "diagnosed" with ADD(not the H part) since pre-school. The meds that the docs wanted him on made him a zombie. I took him off immediately. We struggled for years and years with his problems with attention and focus. Very frustrating. I read an article about a year ago about fish oil being used to help with attention and focus issues in people with ADD/ADHD. He has been on it for about a year...and it has seriously made all the difference in the world. The kid now maintains an A-B average, is more apt to stay on task, keeps focus much better, and
  10. Um...I AM researching...as well as asking questions of others. What is your problem? Sheesh...if you didn't want to be a productive part of the conversation, move along...
  11. "Please also know that these companies (NYSE: CSW & GEO respectively) are traded on Wall Street. Their incentives to deter crime are a conflict of interest in re: to shareholders, share price, and their Profit & Loss Statements." This...this is why I want to learn more about privatizing prisons and jails.
  12. Thanks for that article, helpful. I see that this article focuses on state and federal facilities...but doesn't specifically state that local(ie: county and city jails) are NOT privately owned. Or did I miss something? Are there ways to find out some kind of disclosure of information as to which prisons and jails are privately contracted? And I gotta say...it is sorta becoming more clear why non-violent minor offense (ie: marijuana offenders) are housed sometimes for longer sentences than more violent offenders. If I were running a private business that housed criminals for money.
  13. According to everything I've read, jails(as well as prisons and other detention centers, including youth detention centers) can all be "privately owned"...which(from what I understand) means under contractual agreement through the local or state government that commit the inmate to the facility to be run and maintained by private businesses(for-profit business that receives money for each inmate housed) . I'm having trouble finding lists of such privately owned prisons and jails...and not only in my state or county. Anyone know where to find such information?
  14. I understand the difference between jail vs prison. I'm trying to educate myself better on what is privately owned(jails as well as prisons can be privately owned)...and by whom in my community. http://civilrights.f...ted-states.html I have no vested interest in learning who owns the jail, I am simply educating myself. If the tax payers own it(which means it is run and maintained by local government)...then, fine. If it is owned by a corporation, then fine as well...I would just like to know.
  15. Just curious...now that so many jails and prisons are being owned by private for-profit corporations...does anyone know who "owns" the Paulding County Jail?
  16. Who(m)ever is interested in a group like this, would you please send me a private message? I would like to be able to do a little research to find out how to start something like this, where to meet, costs involved, etc. I have wanted to do this for so many years...and the thought of it actually coming to fruition is very exciting! Yay... Let's do this, indeed!! edited for grammar uncertainty. lol
  17. YES, RhondaW...this is something I have wanted to get going for years. There are so many church groups, golf clubs, scrapbook parties, and parenting meetings...but nothing in the metaphysical/spiritual realm! lol hhhmmmm...how do we get something like this going? I do mediumship readings, energy healing and chakra meditation and readings. I would love to share more with people who share these kinds of interests.
  18. I am closer to mediumship/energy healing, though I do dabble with the tarot. For years, I have wanted to delve more into these areas...to develop more in my mediumship/healing as well as to find like minded individuals to share with. I wonder how many people would be interested in starting a group...if we can't find one.
  19. I have tried to learn Tarot, too... I guess you could say I like to "dabble". I'd love to learn more about Tarot.
  20. Oh, divining counts, in my book! I tried my hand at the rods once. It really is a cool experience. I love the mystic experiences, but also love the scientific side that can be explored when learning and using such things that have for so long been considered "mystic". Know what I mean?
  21. Thanks for responding, CeilingFan. I am aware of the places you mentioned and have been many times. It is hard to jet down to Phoenix for a 45 minute group or class when it takes an hour just to get there! Ugh... Being a married, working, mom of 2 kids...I was hoping to find some "like minded folks" a bit closer to home. Gotta love Paulding...takes 20 minutes just to get to a hwy!!
  22. I am interested in joining(or help start a group) of people in Paulding and surrounding areas that are interested in things such as meditation classes, psychic/medium development, quantum physics, and other spiritualist or energy based beliefs. Does anyone know of a starting point for me? Thanks. Kim
  23. The occasional shot from a hunter...or the cannons at the high school or reenactment, I am used to. But today, there was a lot of gunshots in new hope. Anyone know what's up?
  24. I have no idea what this post is even about ... but is it wrong that I was totally turned on by it? lol
  25. lol this was a fun thread. A nice break from politics...Ugh. I have always used "grey" as well as Rumour, Colour, and Theatre. Guess I'm pretentious, too. haha
