  1. I agree with everything you said except checking with the Ga Department of Labor for a job. They are useless. Not just MY experience with them either. I have had a number of people tell me the same thing. IF you find a job on there that you're interested in and qualified for, when you submit a referral request you will get an e-mail back that the job was no longer available when you submitted your request. At times the job will still be posted and you will get this response. Of all the interviews I have been on, about 20 I think, only ONE came from the DOL. And they were not a place I would have worked.

I know a lot of people are scared of it, but try Craigslist. I'm waiting to hear back about a job I found on there. I've already been to two interviews with the company.

If you do use Craigslist, or any other method really, check out the place before you go. Make sure it's in an area you're comfortable being. I took pepper spray with me to one interview because I felt uneasy about the location. I took my husband with me on one for the same reason.

    I feel your pain .

I am a widow, head of household , and I was out of work for 4 months .

I went to a mentor and he told me it is a numbers game and he told me to apply for 30 jobs a day !

Crazy , but I ended up doing that .

Go to the GA dept of Labor site , you can check for jobs there . I also took the test for the GA Work Ready Program , which I was able to take for free. And I got certified which helps when they ask if you have any certifications .

Also , in your situation , you should go to a local community college . You may qualify for a free course that would only take up 1 day a week of your time. Many of these programs will find you a job while your taking classes . It may only be $8.00 an hour and like 16 hrs a week , but they are tax free . Try Chatt Tech .

Clark Howard said something which is very true . Stay away from the large companies . They get 200 applicants a day . Try to find a small Mom & Pop company that has 30 and under employees.

You have to be creative and think out of the box. Even being a waitress at a local pizza restraunt during lunch hour can pay better than many boreing jobs . And you never know who you will meet .

Just dont give up . After a 4 month dry spell , I actually had 4 offers for positions in 1 week . Then I had to deceide which one I wanted . I actually picked one close to home , alittle less money , but less gas . I also love the product and the people who work there . The job I chose is only 3 days a week , so I also took another position that is 2 days a week .

Get out and meet people . It's not always what you know, but who you know .

  2. It's more difficult because there are more of us out there looking for the FEW jobs that are available. Employers can be very, very, VERY choosy right now. If you don't look like you could be their new BFF or if you do look like you could take their job six months down the road, you aren't going to get hired.

Just keep flexible, act eager and don't give up!

I have literally been looking since before my daughter was even born, I have no idea why it's becoming so difficult, but I suppose if this fails, I could always go to school for nursing and than get a job quicker right after i finish school. Thank you so much! and best of luck to you also!

  3. Hey now!! I thought you were saving one of those for ME!! :pardon: Anyway, I don't need it now.

I DO need another laptop. Don't care if it's got the numeric keypad or not. I can buy one of those if I see I need it. I'll be by on Friday and I'll again be better than the cable guy. :good: ;)

    Yes.....2nd gen 8 gig $119. 4th gen 8 gig $139.

  4. Check Craigslist. They usually have quite a few postings for jobs in Paulding, west Cobb, Douglas, etc. Also, if you're not opposed to the work environment, try Waffle House. I think there is a new one opening soon but I forgot where--Cedarcrest or Crossroads, I think.

Also the new Food Depot stores may need cashiers.

You have two things going for you--you're young and you're flexible on the schedule. :good:

Good luck! Let us know when you get something.

  5. Oh absolutely!! Where I used to work, we hired two people that way. One was about six months pregnant! They both showed initiative to get out there and LOOK.

I have actually gotten a few interviews by just walking in and saying: 'hey are you hiring...I have experience with 'blah blah blah' and I'd be honored to worked with your company' Food depot on HWY 61 IS hiring. A job is a job.

  6. It's going to be tough for him to get a job if he can't drive or doesn't have reliable transportation.

    Best wishes to him.

Anything , no driving record but his license is suspended :(

  7. I think I've seen a few on Craigslist. Before you completely dismiss CL, almost ALL of my interviews have come from listings there. One from the DOL, one or maybe two from the Marietta paper, one from the Douglas County Chamber. The other 12 or 13 have been from CL. And yes, they were legitimate jobs.

Also check the Marietta Daily Journal http://mdj.adqic.com/finder/list.html?is_favorites=false&show_photos=true&offset=0&order_by=date_created+desc&category_id=11769&filter=_RESET_SEARCH_TERMS_&limit=10

  8. Join the club. I have a boatload of them. And the bad thing is some of them are for jobs I've held in the past. The EXACT job I held in the past.

Just got my email of denial from Wellstar. :(

  9. You've never heard of CSX or Norfolk Southern? Have you ever seen railroad tracks with trains on them???

I have never heard of either of those, but I will be looking them up and dropping in some apps. Thank you.

I didn't think about that. Paulding County has a transport bus, I was going to sign up for it when I was getting my GED, but I ended up not having to. The part for my car should be here any day! Thankyou!

  10. I had NO luck with snagajob but then again, I wasn't looking for retail or restaurant work in Kennesaw or Union City.

Here's a DIRECT link to a job search for Dallas 30132 on snagajob. http://www.snagajob.com/job-seeker/jobs/search-results.aspx?city=Dallas&stateProvCode=GA&radius=0&initialRequest=false&isFacet=true&=

    gosh!!!

did you fill out an app for the snagajob?

I just did and was told not jobs in my area, but on the front page it said pizza hut in dallas had a job.

    I'll just keep plugging.

    thanks for helping

  11. Yep, it is tough to find a job.

I did see that Creekside Pines was wanting a part time server. Check the help wanted section here on Pcom.

wow!!! 50 people opened and viewed this and not one response. I guess it is tough to find a job.....

  12. Snagajob is great. IF you want retail or restaurant work and lots and lots and LOTS of e-mail for job listings that aren't anything like you're looking for. I set up an alert for specific jobs in specific areas and got everything from Gainesville to Union City and almost exclusively restaurant jobs. My alert was NOT for restaurant jobs and it was for ONLY Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Counties. Then it took me a good two months to get unsubscribed. Finally out of desperation I went to "contact us" and told them I had attempted at least once a week for the previous two months to unsubscribe to no avail. Got a reply back from them that they were sorry I was having so much problem but they would remove me immediately. They did.

    Look on snagajob.com

Saw a few things on there and you can enter your zip code to get a local area search.
