  1. It was earlier. Maybe they got it sanded. Maybe it was more media hype. That's what caused the problem to start with.
  2. WSB is saying 278 is closed from Florence to Elliot because of ice.
  3. That is not the explanation that I want to hear because what I am hearing you say is that Mr. Cole was intimidated by someone bitching to the point that he made a bad decision that put the kid's safety in jeopardy. BTW, I don't know Mr. Cole but I am sure he is a good guy. I'm not suggesting he be relieved of his duties. I think it is important that he knows that we not only support his good decisions but also tell him when we think he has made a decision we don't agree with. And he has a tough job. I wouldn't want his job.
  4. What I don't understand is why would the snow days have to be made up during winter break and not the first week of June? They should be going to school in the summer instead of the winter any way. And I also agree with the weather drama. Two weeks ago we were all going to die if we didn't wear 14 layers of clothes because it was going down to 5 degrees. It went down to 2 degrees in Hiram this morning and I didn't hear ANY of the stations say one word about it yesterday. If I had to blame anyone for the Clusterflake, the media would be at the top of the list.
  5. I am waiting on my t-shirt from a Facebook friend. I SURVIVED CLUSTERFLAKE '14
  6. Quite honestly I wouldn't care if Deal had duct taped me to a light pole in downtown Atlanta and I had to stay there for three days. I would still vote for him over Jason Carter. I would rather have a sister in a whore house than another Carter as governor.
  7. Hey Pip, My wife made it home from midtown in two hours. But she knows Atlanta like the back of her hand and she knows what people do around here in the snow. She never got on an interstate. And she is a southern girl. Imagine that. That's one southern girl that knows how to drive in the snow. Did you have a southerner driving you? hehehe
  8. Good guy, bad call. My daughter gave her kids the option of staying home or going to school Tuesday. The oldest said he had to go because of the classes he takes and he couldn't afford to miss a day. So she took him to North Paulding High and then couldn't get to him to pick him up. Some kids are responsible enough to actually CARE about their commitments and their future. Cliff and the rest of the BOE need to consider these kids and not some whiney-assed parent that has a condo rented in Panama City for winter break. Whoever decided that was a good location for a high school is
  9. Maybe it is bush's fault.
  10. I would be checking for frozen pipes. It was 2 degrees in Hiram this morning.
  11. Here is a helpful hint Clint. When the meteorologists are saying winter weather is coming as close as Macon, close the schools. You always have an argument that will cover you for over reacting. You under react one more time and parents are going to be running through the county with your head on a stick. Use your damn head man.
  12. I would almost drive over there just to ride in your Raptor. Great offer Mike.
  13. I fish 12 months a year. In the winter I carry a "fall in bag" that has dry clothes and an anti-hypothermia kit. And unfortunately I have had to use it before.
  14. Mayfield milk bottle? check
  15. Thank you! I have seen videos of people driving in Chicago when they get ice and the fact that they were born in Illinois doesn't seem to matter. What happens here is because of the ambient temperatures of the roads, the snow will start to melt and then the air temp will cause it to re-freeze. While most anyone can drive on snow, driving on ice is a different animal. Slope, momentum, traction and the ability to plan way ahead, all come into play when you drive on this southern snow.
  16. Fill up with gas. Put together a survival kit. Mine has: Ski mask gloves matches in zip loc bag fire log (light and easy to start) a few bottles of water jar of peanut butter plastic utensil pack sandwich banana nylon tow strap wool socks flashlight I also have insulated coveralls in the Jeep and a couple of extra jackets for other people if needed.
  17. My grandson is taking all AP classes. If they are open he feels he has to be there. If not he WOULD have stayed home. One thing is for sure, the school will NEVER make this mistake again. The problem with this entire mess is that nobody is willing to just say "I SCREWED UP."
  18. I went to the Publix at Barrett and Dallas Hwy last night and got my buddy's pregnant daughter and brought her back to Hiram. But I have a Jeep. Best thing to do is stay put and stay safe. If you don't have 4 wheel drive you will probably not make it. BTW, that was a 3-1/2 hour round trip.
  19. You ARE right. Freakin WSB's Farmer said "just like Glen Burns said it would." I would much rather hear "wow! this one bit us right in the ass."
  20. Bite me. I saw at least a dozen wrecks today, one of which was a roll over. Doesn't really matter HOW FAST A TRUCK RUNS OVER YOU, you are just as dead. And that was an ignorant move on the part of Paulding County Board of Education which only MAGNIFIES their first dumb ass move of not shutting everything down last night. You don't play games with children. Don't ever gamble with my kids. This entire event could have had the kids taken out of the equation if there was one person with the backbone to say they were not willing to risk the kids. I will take over dramatic over over s
  21. 2,000 pound chunks of steel sliding down an icy bobsled course with children standing on the side unprotected? Guess what I expect.
  22. I am hearing that some buses let the high school kids get off the bus. Don't know if this is true or not, but some heads need to roll if it is. That is stupid dangerous.
