Depends on what you want. Most of the major lines sail their newer and larger ships out of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. For the shorter routes, they use older ships and sail out of smaller ports.

Good suggestion. Yes, the Black Hills are beautiful. - IN THE SUMMER. Once again, let me remind you that winter is long, very cold, very windy. A hard winter up there is one you barely survive. It is not unusual to turn on the weather in the morning in January and hear the announcer say, "Good morning, Fargo. It is 40 degrees below zero out there so dress warmly." Is he kiddin'? Nope.

Buy a POS to drive in the winter. After a couple of winters, the vehicles up there rust like crazy. I drove a 20 year old 4-wheel drive Jeep in Minnesota.

I've not lived there but I spent 13 years in Winnipeg (north) and 2 years in Rochester, MN (east). I hope you like winters that last 6-7 months and lots of windy, blizzardy days because that i what you're going to get. I prefer the southeast to winter hell. The joke about up there is they call it "God's country". But, God migrates south for the winter and summer occurs on one weekend only. And, you have never seen such large and hungry mosquitoes.
