  1. I'm guessing it has to do with no longer wanting to hide a part of your life. I can't imagine never being able to hold my husband's hand in public, etc. I also agree with what someone else said, that when "they" are seen as a tiny, insignificant group, it's easy to demonize "them", no matter who "they" are. But when it's someone you personally know, or see on TV etc, people tend to make more of a connection. Having said that, I don't know who this person is, I don't care, and as long as everyone in a loving relationship is a consenting adult, I honestly don't care what makes them happy.
  2. Sleet again in the southern portion of the county
  3. Bless your husband and everyone who works with him. Most people have NO idea how much they depend on power until they're without it for a week.
  4. In Florida, during widespread power outages, we were told that if we lost power we should turn off all but one appliance. Otherwise as the linemen got the power returned to a neighborhood, every appliance coming on at once would stress the system even more. Seemed reasonable to me, although I am not a lineman, etc.
  5. I believe I saw the Hiram Community Center is being set up as a shelter? This thread http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/307828-hiram-community-center/
  6. http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/homemade-tortillas http://www.the-taste-tester.com/2013/02/homemade-tortillas.html this one is closer to the recipe I use; still can't find that one. I don't use a mixer at all, though, just a fork. I agree that you have to add water a little at a time and play it by ear; you'll need different amounts on different days, depending on the humidity. These refrigerate well. Tips for rolling out the tortillas - some people use plastic wrap on the board and pin. Didn't work for me. I *lightly* dust the rolling pin, and lightly dust the board any time the
  7. Some here at P-com posted a link to an amateur meteorologist that's been predicting that this would get bad since Sunday. Here's a link to the current discussion http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=792691 I'll find that tortilla recipe and post it under a new thread as soon as I finish breakfast!
  8. Bread's not that hard to make if you have yeast and time. Kids even like to get in on the mixing and kneading sometimes. LOTS of online recipes. Or tortillas are even easier; I have a recipe that only needs flour, oil and baking soda.
  9. Best place to get information on school closings is the Paulding BOE's twitter feed. Next best is Facebook. Phone calls seem to go out third at the same time as tv stations are updated. County website usually runs 1-2 hours behind Twitte
  10. I use Wendy Fenner as my pet sitter and I also HIGHLY recommend her. I have used her several times for all of my animals. I'm really happy with her services. She takes care of the animals, interacts with the cats and dogs to give them some play time and leaves notes for you explaining what happened and what she did each day.
  11. If they need dishes (plates, drinking glasses) I have some I can donate. Also a table and chairs, but they are very tall (cafe style). If the couple is elderly the table and chairs may not work; my in-laws had trouble getting into the chairs.
  12. Husband just called; police are there and are going to take him and the other parent still stuck at the daycare home.
  13. Moonie, my husband and 4 year old daughter are stuck at her day care, off of Veteran's Memorial Highway in Douglasville. Any chance you could help? Not sure where you are.
  14. Went last weekend; I had the Thai green curry and a friend had the Mongolian Beef; we both enjoyed the meals. Service was fine for us; I'll definitely be going again.
