  1. The rumor is that we're 3 drink limit bar. Well to those who telling that story, sorry to disapoint you you can definetly get more drink at Buds sports bar.. Thank you. From the owner at Buds Kay Wilson

Awe lordy, who is telling that? By the way my friends and I are super excited about the patio opening next month!!!

  2. I can assure you that my skills have gotten me further in life than yours ever will.

I If you don't appreciate it then don't act like it. You started this thread about wasteful spending so what did you expect to hear? Everyone talking about rainbows and rose gardens? Wake up. Read the comments.. I never said that Paulding County was terrible. I only focused on ONE department out of the SEVERAL that could be noted. I live here. I raise a family here and I am a productive member of this county and my country. I like living here and want to continue to do so but if the madness does not stop then I can see people like myself pulling up and moving to a county that has more to offer and leadership that can improve the quality of life for me and my neighbors.

I don't have an axe to grind with Pcom. You are not relevant enough to waste my time on. You simply asked a question and I answered it. Get over yourself.

I think you need to just keep on talkin so folks can see the type of person and supporters they almost ended up with representing them.

Let me see if I can guess the real department you have issues with hmmmmm.

I will let you start with being blunt instead of insulting. Go ahead put it out there. I can do blunt, why don't you tell the big bad p.com folks all about it.

Plenty of folks have skills, it doesn't mean anyone owes you a job.

  3. We will never benefit from the Economic Development department. Either a company wants to move to Paulding because of what we offer or it doesn't. No amount of spineless drool from an overpaid troll will convince them we are any more attractive than we truly are.

As for not being qualified. I am highly skilled and have a very good job with over 30 years of experience at what I do. You on the other hand are the worst excuse for a 'credible news reporter' that I have ever heard. All of Paulding.com is biased by whoever you can whore into spending money on advertisements with them. People like you are what’s wrong with this county and society as a whole.

I don't appreciate being called a whore. You are the troll, coming on here talking about how terrible paulding county is, insulting Jamie. You have an ax to grind with us and the county. This country sure could use a lot more positive people just like you. As far as society goes you are very much a shining example of social skills, were those the ones you were referring to having for 30 years?

  4. Ok LPPT, I agree with you to a point.

But please...........stop belittling people who do not share your beliefs by saying condescending things to us.

I do need to stop doing that, it was upsetting to me that economic development was a target in the election and continues to be under attack. I can't understand the attack on it. It makes no sense because we all benefit eventually. We have gotten great results from it considering we have not even had it a year.

It took a long time to put together just the information and data base for companies to look at. The applications to the state to offer tax abatement and opportunity zones for existing business. Jamie has put a lot together in a short period of time.

He really cares about Paulding and he takes it to heart that the small business owners need the help that these companies will bring to the county.

So yeah I get pretty defensive on both fronts, first as a small business owner and secondly as friend of Jamie's. He has taken out the time to explain everything he does and why to me. He is one of the most positive, hardest working people I have ever known. He has the credentials to do the job and has a lot of successes in this area before he came to us.

  5. It is really sad that LPPT attacked the previous poster because he did not agree with her.

She said basically the same thing to me.....That I must be bitter because I am "not qualified" for one of the many many jobs that our County supposedly has coming to it.

When the jobs get here..........then let us know.

Right now it just sounds like Obama bullcrap that there are shovel ready jobs available.

    When they arrive.......inform us.

NO...I do NOT need a job but I will pass the info along to those who do.

Let me explain my issues here, industrial economic development is does not create jobs. Companies create the jobs. There is no local get rich quick through favoritism in it. There are no big real estate deals, no favored local developers or even construction companies. These are existing companies looking to expand their operations somewhere in the united states. They deal with the best when it comes to developers and they choose construction companies, it is all based on the reputation to do the best job. Some locals will get construction work, but it will be based on merit.

Many of those that have issue with are those that have always gotten the bones thrown their way. It is a different ball game, that many don't like. These companies can't be told who to hire to do anything in this county.

The companies will come, they will buy or lease land based on their needs, they will choose the builders the employees and the services and providers here.

It galls some folks that someone is being paid to bring in outsiders and not dealing behind the scenes to get the right folks the right jobs. Just like in the real world instead of the good ole boy world folks are going to have to play by the rules of merit. Jamie Gilbert has proven his abilities in other areas and is performing well in less than a year, if he weren't there would be no griping to get rid of him and replace him with someone that plays by the old hand washing rules. Many of the small businesses in the county are thrilled with the job he is doing. Granted most of them are not looking to profit in land and construction development.

It blows my mind every time you compare economic development to Obama's shovel ready stimulus. They are not even close to the same thing. Before Jamie came along, I doubt more than 2 or 3 large companies even looked at Paulding and if they did they could not have found the information they needed to even consider relocation here.

I doubt we had a data base anywhere in the county that would show all the land suitable for industrial building, I can promise you these companies won't spend a month gathering this information, when thousands of counties have made it available for just this purpose.

Were in the game now, we are basically a newcomer to economic development, with all the companies looking now, we are bound to hit a few home runs. Before we weren't even in the game.

The surrounding counties where most of our residents work, at well paying jobs by the way have economic development.

It is beyond me why anyone would have any issues with economic development, every one that lives here will see the benefits.

  6. I love how Jamie Gilbert chimed in with his worthless comments. His whole department is a prime example of wasteful spending. He has not 'created' one single job for this county. Businesses do not want to come here because we do not have the infrastructure to support them. You can argue that his department gets paid by the IBA or another made up entity but County man hours and equipment go into that whiny little stump of a man on a daily basis with NOTHING to show for it.

W have no interstate, we have no water, we barely have fiber. The interstate is no fault of the county but the other two need to be at the TOP of the list if we are ever going to attract any type of business growth in this county other than a bunch of strip malls.

I think the only thing that is going right is the new Hospital. Hopefully that will have a Kennestone effect and pharmacies and doctors offices will start developing in that area. Im sure you will hear from our 'leaders' that they had a lot to do with it... not.

Speaking of wasting money, your perspective must come from not being qualified for one of the new jobs.

I love the way you think Paulding has nothing going for it. We need to just throw in the towel.

I love the forward momentum, people that are working hard are finally having some hope.

I do have to wonder why you would insult Jamie, he works endlessly to attract business here. He does not create jobs, businesses create jobs. They all need a location to produce, we have a location for them and plenty of well educated and motivated people willing to work for them.

You sound like sour grapes to me.

Of course leaders have a lot to do with our growth. They could refuse to do anything but pay people to maintain everything the taxpayer owns and refuse to do any of the things that we are seeing, with water, fiber optic and infrastructure.

I tell you what is wasteful spending is running infrastructure to commercially zoned areas with sub par buildings and and the capacity to only generate minimum wage jobs.

I know some folks involved in that type of development will miss the good ole days.

  8. You've missed the point. Nothing sinister at all.

It is OK to hire from the outside; just do a better job sourcing a list of qualified applicants.

This would NEVER be an applicant list for a high level position within a corporation.

Their list looks more like a who's who list of city/county managers that can't hold a job. If nobody else wants them that should say something.

I don't really accept that if they worked for cities or counties that changed managers with elections. Some officials clean house when they are elected.

  9. I believe if you do a little more research, you will find true performers tend to stay in their position (in that specific role).

It looks like one of the candidates gets the "assistant to the regional manager" job mid 2010, then in early 2012 is interviewing for jobs half way accross the country. The candidate did not get the job, then resigns from their current position.....and now wants to work for Hiram.....and Hiram is interested......

Sounds like that person was likely not a fit for the position or was not performing. Basic applicant screening techniques would tell me this candidate might have issues and is job hopping (probably because they interview better than they perform).

I don't know any of the candidates, but did a quick google search of one of the names just to see what they had been up to.

I need to clarify my remarks are not about the City of Hiram specifically, all town governments go through many of these same issues when it comes to replacing people.

I have seen plenty of times also when people are ready for a different position and glad to move over. My dad worked for a small city, they would move people up to jobs that once they got there they didn't like it.

Sometimes they don't have anyone qualified to move up into the position and have to hire from the outside. I don't see anything sinister in the changes in Hiram like some do.

  10. I guess someone forgot to tell Cobb County. They've had the same county manager since 1993.

You know exactly what a cog is, nothing moves without them. Some cogs are more important than others.

I really don't see the big deal, a little grease and a wrench applied you get another cog.People apply and work for the government they know from day one that their job is political and carries risk.

Just like investing your life savings in a business and the cogs run you through the machine and spit you out because they can.

Everything in life has risk. Nobody is irreplaceable.

One saying has stuck with me all my life, put your hand in a bucket of water, take it out and see how fast the hole fills up.

It means don't ever take anything for granted.

Something tells me that a cog holds the grease and the wrench, somebody screwed up along the way or he is exceptional at his job.

  12. I just got a robo-call from Heath saying that he'll be there tonight but that Bill Carruth still hasn't accepted.

Perhaps it's still worth a PCom crew showing up there to film...though you'll probably be blocked at the door.

    mrnn

I wanted to respond to this Mr. Heath acknowledged me with a hello as I was going through the door. Before the meeting he came up shook my hand and said hello.

I definitely give him credit for having proper decorum in public.

I think that it is very important that we all practice that especially when it comes to politics. I have always shown him and his wife respect when we are out in public, he is the sitting senator and I am old fashioned about those things.

He knows I don't agree with him on everything, and I am sure he probably believes the rumors that I am a democrat and disagree with him on everything which is not true.

In fact I agree with him on the lottery and casino gambling probably not for the same reasons. As long as we find more ways to fund education the more education will cost.

  13. Well?

I have the video, I am still thinking it over whether to post it or not.

If you have read the mail from either candidate you pretty much know what was said by Heath.

I have 3 concerns that make me want to post it.

The disclaimer that Heath knows nothing about the pac that paid for the mailers, that he can't get any info from the secretary of state on the ethics complaint and the persistent rumor that the Teaparty signed up candidates for the liberal group backing the lobbyist gift limits.

He did however create his own document to limit his acceptance of lobbyist gifts and signed it in front of the audience.

It is always rough on a challenger to discuss house bills with the same amount of knowledge that the incumbent has and that was the bulk of the speech.

I will say that our local politicians really take the hit when it comes to raising taxes when the honest truth is we get back so little of what we pay in state income tax that we pay in. Our folks are left to find other ways to fund our local needs.

The reservoir was not brought up nor the fact that Bill Curruth facilitated the purchase of it. Yet Mr. Heath and Ms. Braddock have both taken credit for it according to an examiner article.

I will probably upload it at the office around lunch tomorrow, it takes forever on my DSL.

As always Mr. Heath was very articulate, very knowledgeable about the bills he helped pass.

He had quite a few supporters in the audience tonight, it was certainly very one sided with out Mr. Curruth there, that made it kind of non-story for myself I had heard most of it in previous speeches and articles over the last few months.

I was rather amused to hear he was accused of 'Stalking' Mr.Curruth and his daughter through facebook and driving past the residence.

He explained that he was looking for signs of the Curruth's actually living in one or the other residences.

I am glad none of the candidates actually stooped to publishing what was found on the facebook pages of kids and relatives.

  14. And they way you responded to me could be construed as one as well.

See how that works Ms. Kettle?

But I stand by what I said, no mistake on my part, it's moronic in the sense it's a game, about politics, again in the same fashion a show like West Wing was a TV show, about politics, and I don't have the magic myself to go back and look, but I highly doubt ANY of those ended up in the politics forum. But that seems to be the basis of the consideration of the moderation on this thread, and guess what, it's moronic.

It could be more about folks getting upset about the duplicity of the moderation that seem to be the only thing of any consistency on these boards as of late.

But when this thread devolves into the political discussion you seem to think exists in this thread then I will concede my stance.

I am pretty sure it will develop into a discussion about moderation.

I will take my bullet for calling you a name I think my name calling canceled yours out :p

You could have changed your title, but it is our experience that mentioning Obama in a title or even a thread brings out the I hate Obama's in mass.

I did check your content and I do owe you an apology that I had you confused with someone else. I can see that you are not aware of the typical discussions that the word Obama brings out.

I really don't understand why you took moving the thread so personally anyway, we gave you the reason and ask you not to do it again.

It's simple the game is about politics, it goes in the political forum were folks can discuss the merits of a game based on politics.

Why don't you explain your reasoning for wanting it in the Cafe and we can take it under consideration :D

  15. It's political in the same way West Wing is political, for entertainment purposes only.

But hey whatever makes you feel empowered.

And oh yeah, this is probably about the 3rd time I've EVER stepped into this forum on p.com so Yeah I SHOULD be quite familiar with the rules.

    LOL.

Fairly obvious that this was ONLY moved for the "defeat Obama" thing, can't have that on the cafe, but had I said defeat Romney.. yeah it would have stayed.

But the fact is there's more political discussion in folks signatures than in my entire first post, but whatever. No wonder this site is dying.

Defeat Romney would have not stayed in the Cafe. I apologize if I confused you with someone else that frequently visits the political forum.

We are not on a power trip, we have reasons for our rules, most people understand that. If someone starts a discussion about a political statement in a signature it will be moved here.

We are quite aware of the gibberish about our liberalism, as it pertains to moderation. I often read columns and articles from all over and read the comment sections when they have them.

What is said on here is rather mild compared to what you read on other sites. You don't see them deleting comments of those with differing political views because it makes people uncomfortable. I am sure that they do make certain things invisible when it comes to over the top personal attacks that are off topic.

(your remarks about the moderation were a personal attack on a moderator by the way)

I would not be surprised if they didn't get the same backlash of poor me you removed my comments because I am a democrat, liberal, conservative.

Quite honestly I don't mind being criticized for being inline with more popular mainstream media. I think it is just because people feel they have access to us that they dish up the criticism and try to force us to be what they want us to be.

It's really not much of a discussion after 10 or so people say ditto.

This is not a message board were freedom of speech applies only to those that agree or all act the same way. We only ask that the discussion go on in appropriate forums and quite honestly that is not cause for you or anyone else to get so upset.

  16. I am going to apologize first, then ask my questions, I AM SORRY.

What services does Hiram provide besides the Police (and their vehicles) and water in old Hiram? The reason I ask, my cousin worked many years for Hiram, cutting grass around the govt buildings and keeping the water working, a one man crew.

Many of us are aware that the Old Hiram sewer is a mess, is that one of the problems?

    Are there other services?

Has the Hiram govt become bloated with expensive Executives?

I hope Don Brown will weigh in on this as he lives there and has ran for a seat in the Hiram govt.

I am trying to connect the dots here. I don't have much to go on as we don't regularly tape these meetings. ( Just so Anon and others know Pubby and I are stretched thin) Under the new sunshine laws anyone can tape those meetings and post them here on the county wide news and we would even assist with the upload)

As far as audits go our government and any one that does business with them should be an open book. I have no issue with well educated people being paid what they are worth JJ, you get what you pay for.

It looks to me as though a lot of money has been spent on capitol improvements in downtown Hiram, my understanding is that money can not be spent on salaries and such.

I think concerned citizens should tape the meetings.
