  1. Great finish! I wasn't so sure how I felt about the 3 green/white/checkers until I saw it in action. I think I like it.

Even though Jr. didn't win he sure took our breath away on the last lap. He's one of the best looking red headed men I've ever seen.

The only thing that irked me was how they kept saying they were going back to "old school" racing. Sorry, it's not old school until NASCAR lets them race back to the yellow. Now THAT (and Danica) will bring the fans back.

I hope the rest of the season is just as exciting!

That isn't old school it's foolish. Nascar was the only form or racing that carried that tradition and I'm often surprised that no one was killed as a direct result of that practice.

  2. I'm offically a fan of Jamie now. That was one of the best post win interviews ever. That is what the history of that place should mean to the drives. Not the corporate endorsments we are used to getting from a certain few that have won recently. Disappointed Smoke didn't do better but that finish, and victory lane celeberation, was worth the 6 hours of time on a Sunday.

  3. Folks use some caution when on these sites. They are are great resource but not always accurate. My home in Ky was listed as the previous owner was on the sex offender list. In Ky they don't list names - just adresses. Well guess what. 9 months after I purchased the home my adress is still on the list. In Paulding my wife searched our 'hood and the adresses for homes that were not even built yet came up. They were empty lots. It is great that this info is available for parents and citizens but as with everything you have to take it with a grain of salt.

  4. If they are illegal boot them out (and no, I don't want them in jail because that will cost us money if we are going to do that we should just let them stay, its cheaper) and throw the people in jail that hire them. I do hate to break it to all of you, there are a lot that are here legally work hard and pay taxes and they work the cheezety jobs too. What choice do they have with no eduacation etc. I realize it is hard for you to wrap your head around but it is true - and by appearence alone, you, nor I can tell the difference

  5. Couldn't care less. Those of us in the commercial construction industry that have worked hard to maintain our quality and reputation only to get hammered on bid day by some low life operation using Hispanic labor are fed up.

So those that have done it the right way, have their papers, or are maybe actual US citizens should be treated the same as illegals because they are the same race? Are you serious?

I understand your frustration but America is better then that.

Ithy, the fact you agree should tell Feelip how wrong he was.

  6. Was suppose to but my BIL and FIL had something come up. We usually go every other year. We swapped years with the people we share the tickets with so we will be their next year.

I am going to be working :( The owner of the company I work for finished second in the ARCA race last sat night. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Does the kid that kicked out the wind shield of the car a few years back still race ARCA. My wife grew up a few houses down from him, Simko or something was his last name.

  7. McM I would bet that if you took the plates off the cars and change NOTHING else, they would spread out and would be able to pass like they do on smaller tracks. My biggest complaint is not just the boring racing, or the fact that a driver can run 43rd all day then run to the front near the end of the race, but the fact that someone will die be it driver or fan, because when one car wrecks it takes out too many cars because they are too close together. What type of race was Earnhardt Sr. killed in? how may upside down cars have there been in the last 2 dega races?

Sorry but speed also has to be considered and 200+ around that oval is way to fast in those cars - Bill said so himself. Remember a few years ago, the Indy guys refused to run Texas Motor Speedway because of the G's they were pulling at 220 and it isn't banked as high. The tire size on "stock" cars has to be factored in as well, there is just less area on the track to control that kind of speed.

I agree that they need to do something to spread it out more but using Sr.'s death as an example doesn't work. He died because he was "old school" he didn't wear all the saftey equitment that was available to him. He didn't even where a closed faced helmet. Also his wreck was a freak event and could have happened between just two cars, one passing the other and turning into the wall with no time to scrub off speed. Think about how much worse that wreck would have been going 30-40 MPH more then he already was.

Personally I don't find the racing boring - I don't know how you can with the pack always shuffling but I do agree that it is aggravating that a car can "rim ride" at the back of the pack the whole race and win it during the last few laps or one moron move by Kyle Busch can take out the whole field.

  8. McM I disagree, I do not recall the cars bunched together before plates were implemented. Remember when Elliot came back from a lap down at Dega, the hardway by driving around the leader and then catching the leader and passing him again for the lead? the cars were spread all over the track again before plates, Also Elliot set the 212 mph record before plates at Dega. If nascar is afraid of the cars going to fast, then they should send the cars thru the infield portion of the track facilities like the grand am cars and motorcycles do.

Maybe I miss spoke. No, they weren't bunched together - they were all in line like a train and couldn't pass once they hit the dirty air. Elliots 212 was the key event that put plates on the cars. While I am a big fan of Grand Am racing, and would love to see Nascar do a few races a year on a circuit like that I the 500 isn't the place for that. From what I understand, and what most of the drivers seem to refer to, is the aero package being the biggest issue that causes pack racing. They create a vacuum that can't be broken. Breaking up the air would fix that issue.

I know its wiki but here is some interesting info on restrictor plates. I was unaware that other series used different versions of them.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictor_plate

  9. Question, when will nascar remove the plates and let the fans have a real race to watch instead of the boring 43 cars under a blanket?

Its not safe to have an unrestricted car at Daytona. Its not the plate that keeps them bunched up either (rember the days of the line of cars driving around until the last 20 laps? they were plated too) its the aero package. The problem is the cars are just to powerfull and too aero dynamic to not have a plate on them at 'dega and daytona.

Personally I would like to see them do something to dirty the air up a little bit, that would get rid of pack racing but keep the race from turning into a line of cars driving around in a circle.

    That being said...

Lets go Smoke, the last real racer left!

  10. This is funny. They are building this right behind our office and most of the workers use our parking lot as a cut thru. I will say that at least 80-90% are of mexican decent and most speak no english. We laugh because at least 3 or 4 days a week, they have a mexican roach coach back there at lunch and they come running off the job to get in line!!!

Yes, all hispanic people that work construction are here illegally ESPECIALLY those that enjoy food from their native land, not a single one may be attempting to make a better life for themselves legally. :glare:

  11. Does this appear strange to anyone else? Statement released by the Police Dept:

Do 28 year old men die of "natural causes" ? My guess would be no. We'll wait and see, I could be wrong.

Cancer would be the easiest way to die of natural causes at a young age. Heart related issues took the lives of several young basketball players like Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers. I just heard of a soccer player in Europe who died of the flu at the age of 27, I think those are all considered natural causes. It is rare but it does happen.

  12. Is this is? http://marvin3m.com/arcade/chexx.htm

ETA: nevermind... goalie and 2 players per side... wrong game!

No, that was our second favorite game as kids, the table with the dome over it where you controlled the players with sticks like Fussball. I found one of those at a garage sale one year and just need to get it cleaned up. It was the old school USA vs. USSR one - really cool. The one I'm on the hunt for is a actually video game. Thanks for the link though, that was a neat read.

EDIT: I just googled the cost of one of those tables new and it was over 3K. I paid less then 600 bucks for mine at this garage sale it it works perfect, just needs some paint and cleaning. You just made my day, the wife thought I overpaid for it wait till I show her this.

  13. Anyone remember a hockey game from the late 80s that was bascially two on two hockey? We used to play it all the time and I've been looking for it for my game room but can't find it. All the places I call that restore these machines don't know the game I'm talking about either. It was two teams, one blue, one red. A goalie and two players to a side. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it but it is something really simple.

  14. I have been an AVID NASCAR fan for many, many, many years. But, this past year hasn't been much fun. NASCAR has made many mistakes in the changes they have made which has caused the popularity to drop considerably. As pointed out during yesterday's race NONE of the last 10 Chase races were sold out. WHAT?? In years past, that would never happen. With our business, we have seen a drastic drop in NASCAR apparel sales - partly because NASCAR got greedy and flooded the market with merchandise at Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, etc. There is nothing wrong with those retail stores, but anytime there is an enormous amount of merchandise it takes away from it. IMHO. I don't think it is good for one person to dominate the sport, any sport, either. I did watch the race yesterday, intermittently with football, in hopes Mark Martin would be able to pull off the miracle and win the Championship. BUT!?!?!?

NASCAR, since the TV boom, could care less about selling out races. The track owners care because that is how they make their money but Nascar would rather have you at home watching on TV to gather in ratings and advertising dollars. If sell outs were a concern you would see TV blackouts when the race at the local track was not sold out - just like football.

  15. I attended 3 races, those were the only ones I watched from start to finish. The only reason I went to two of them is my father got tickets from work. I did pay to see 'dega for the first time and it was well worth it.

NASCAR has now entered the relm that a lot of other sports have to deal with. The "who is the best of all time" when the measuring stick isn't equal. Baseball has 'roids and race seperation. Football has the length of the season, basketball the three point and shot clock, hockey has more rule changes then you can count and now NASCAR has the chase.

I can't stand Johnson but I will say this - he can wheel a damn race car. He is boring on the track and has the personality of a lump of coal but that team is damn good at what they do.

I guess as I become less of a fan of the sport I appreciate the drivers more as I don't have that rival type hate for them I did a few years back. I can appreciate what the guys like Gordon and Johnson do because I'm not as involved and while I still like seeing Smoke win, it doesn't mean as much to me when he dosen't anymore

I'm really starting to enjoy the American LeMans series more and more (one of their classes is more stock then Nascar) and the grass roots racing that goes on at dirt tracks etc. The truck series is actually more entertaining then the cup series at this point.

  16. Vito - each burger is 1/2Lb of meat before cooking with 6 strips of bacon correct? Wish I lived in PC - no issue finishing that.

The kid went wrong from the start - no coke, that is obvious, only water and not much of that.

You should get the coleslaw as the side item and put it on the burger which should be cooked medium to keep it juice so you don't fill up on liquid keeping your mouth from getting dry. Also NO toppings, mustard can mess with ya. You also have to "squessh" the buns - get the air out of them so they don't expand.

    Amatuers I tell ya.

  17. while i agree with a lot of your points, nothing could make me switch to indy. and european? where's your american pride?

Don't knock Indy till you have seen it live.

Corvette races in the TransAm, as American as it gets.

  18. Just saw on the news that Nascar is concerned about sagging TV ratings. Why start now? If they want to know why NASCAR popularity is waning, here's a few tips:

    1) The cars. They are identical except for the engine block and a decal package. Stock cars.....riiiiight. No more win on Sunday and sell on Monday, and no more Chevy vs. Ford water cooler talk. Agree 100%

    2) The tracks. Way too many cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks. Progressive banking just makes the races look like I-285. Hell they even ruined Bristol. Nuf Said. Agree 100%

3)Long races: Particularly on the aforementioned 1.5 mile tracks. 30 laps of racing, and 300 laps of follow the leader. The pit stops are the best part of the race, and that's sad. Agree 100%

    4) Too many night races, too little tradition. I would much rather use the race as an excuse to not cut the grass than to miss supper or a movie. Besides, I can't stay up till 1 AM any more. Don't get me started on the Firecracker 400 or the Southern 500 either. That's a whole 'nother thread. I see your point about tradition but personally I love the night races. I don't have the time during the day on a good Sunday afternoon to watch a 3-4 hour race. Yard work and erands need to be done, but Sat. night is alright for racing.

    5) The points system. Winning means nothing. 8th place is the place to be. Winning means more now then it did before so I don't see your point here. This has ALWAYS been an issue going back to the early days of Winston Cup

    6) Qualifying. 35 cars don't even have to try, and the others don't hardly stand a chance. AMEN! Do qualifying like they do in Indy or F1 - no automatic spots.

    7) The stupid Chase. After August, they have the fans of only 12 drivers paying any attention, and before that, finishing 11th is as good as first. Agreed, but I like the chase better then watching the driver if first have it wrapped up in July

8 ) 4 car teams. Way too corporate for my tastes, way too much engineering and money involved. I see your point but I'm not sure what they can do about it. Most teams need to have multiple teams just to stay afloat. It's the nature of the beast at this time.

    9) The drivers. They speak English entirely too well.

    10) California. Just because it's California. Shouldn't they be racing cute little Lotuses and Mazdas, and celebrating a win with a nice Chablis? I like the road course though.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm watching IndyCar again, along with TransAm and the European circuits. Hey, at least the Bimmers, Porsches, and Loti are kinda stock. And I know that there isn't any more passing in IndyCar than NASCAR, but at least they are faster and the races are shorter. My yard is lookin' pretty good lately. Indy and TransAm are great racing. TransAm is more stock car them NASCAR is.
