Barge is no real threat to the election of Governor Deal. He saw the handwriting on the wall and knew he could not win another Republican primary for his present office. Mayor David Pennington has a far greater chance in the primary than does Barge. The Legislature will take up the CC issue again and I won't be surprised to see it go away for the state of Georgia. I agree that the teachers want to focus on the job of educating our youth. Education has always been a political football. CC at the Federal level is a bad idea and I will be on board with seeing it defeated. I know exactly wh

So if I post something depressing it will be sent to Paulding Place? Just asking cause no one seems to get it when I make a joke. very depressing.......

I still don't think the integrated math program is a good one. Compound that with no books and it is a recipe for disaster for kids who have trouble with math. I do think that some teachers are good enough to make it work anyway others will never be able to. I don't think Common Core will be adopted in Georgia. JMO I hate all of this back and forth with standards for the teachers and the students. Guess I have to agree with most of what you have said.
-
School is not the same any longer. Heard a speaker on the new common core say that the answer made no difference right or wrong. What really mattered was the effort by the student and whether or not they could give a reason for their answer. I think some of those folks are in the wrong profession.

Found out the checks are only for parents who volunteer and are in the school working near the children. Parents/ friends going to the office to pick up kids will have to show ID as it has always been. I have no problem with the checks on folks who are at school volunteering. The way it has been reported is confusing and unfair to the BOE members who voted for this. JMO

I believe I read that because Georgia has not put in place the promised evaluation for teachers ( Teacher/Leader Keys) that the state can't collect at least 9 million of the race to the top money it won. I agree with astamps 76. He/she listed many reasons that common core should not be implemented. I wonder how many parents in Paulding approve of the new required background checks they will have to have to visit their child's school. A number of folks who are against common core tie this kind of check to it. Invasion of privacy and getting information that is not a part of educating the

Great post! I totally agree with you. It sounds good on its face but the devil is in the details. Georgia has already removed the testing program from the Federal Common Core and that means they will write their own tests once again. I prefer to see how our students compare to the students in other states. National tests. JMO I am thinking that the education community probably does not agree with me.

Strange. It works for me. I will try posting it again. You might be interested in this article by a math professor on the subject. http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/get-schooled/2013/aug/21/math-prof-common-core-will-set-our-children-back-o/ The study confirms that the Common Core national standards will set our children back one to two years. The math standards specifically are markedly inferior to all three sets of standards used for comparison. (“Curriculum experts” at the Georgia Department of Education are encouraged to review the study – available here -- and offer an honest assessm

Any thoughts from the p.com community about the possible withdrawal of Georgia from the Common Core Standards? Some comments is this article suggest that Barge's decision to consider running for Governor has prompted this position by Governor Deal. http://www.ajc.com/news/news/state-regional-govt-politics/deal-orders-review-of-common-core/nZYbc/

Sad to say but you could visit parts of Chicago and find copies of these kids. Must be a lot of families that breed this. What do they all have in common? -
Aetna and one other company have pulled out of the exchange. You are correct. It will be October.

Congress does have to worry about their own coverage. Think some of their staffers were spared in a recent vote.

I agree with most of your comment. The main difference is who the media holds up as leaders and whose comments and responses they broadcast. Why don't they listen to Allen West for example? We have some right here in Georgia that are great leaders in their communities. One of them is Michael McNeely from Douglas County. -
The chickens are coming home to roost. This was a bad move and news of "what's in it" gets worse every day. http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/morning_call/2013/08/ups-to-drop-15000-spouses-from.html

I don't think this is about revenge. Some of the comments have more to do with the way the two incidents have been treated by the so called black leaders and the media. I think some of the present leaders need to be left behind and new ones found. They are still living in the past. JMO -

Will we have our primary in May instead of July in 2014?

First, the socialists are not the red state folks. Second, blame the Obama administration if you don't like the election cycle. They caused it with their challenge to the system in Georgia.
