  1. People who complain about other people who have 11 items in the 10 items or less lane! :p I mean, come on, really??? Does that one item really make much difference? Actually complaining in general makes me want to complain....oh wait....nevermind.

  2. "Life" is a really good show. I hope it comes back. :D Now that BSG and SG Atlantis are gone, there is nothing left to watch but Disney reruns. I love Disney but you can only watch a show so many times in a single month.

Yeah, it is a really good show. That's really the only one from the list I care about. Law & Order has just gotten kind of tired.

  3. I don't know if anyone else has brought this up so if it's been said already I apologize for being redundant. Anyway, my issue is this: Yesterday my daughter came home from school and I asked her how it (the CRCT) was that day because she had been super-stressed about it. She said the test itself wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be, but then she said that at snack time the teacher passed out snack instead of them eating their own snacks. It was, get this, a gummy, A gummy, and a mint! She said the principal said they had to have that so they'd have more time for the test. Of course, this is going by what my daughter said, but as much as they hype this test and stress the kids out about it, I believe her. Here I thought they wanted them to have a big breakfast so that they'd think more clearly, not so that they could go without a real snack until lunch time (which I understand was shortened to accommodate the test as well).

    Whoa there hoss,

First it is NOT FREE check your taxes.

Next what is wrong with study, test, study, test? Seemed to work back in the day.

I think what most of are getting at is there is ALOT of un-needed pressure put on the kids. Also sometimes there is material on the test that was not taught. I know that after speaking with a mom whose son said that there was stuff that they did not cover. Not all kids should be held back because they failed this test.

I think that most of us that have taken the time to reply to this forum do augment the lessons. However, if you only have a handout that really does not explaine anything then how can you help your child? When I was in school back in the old days we had textbooks, we brought them home and if there was something we could not understand we could go back to the previous lesson to refresh our memory. This also helped our parents as they needed to have the refresh lesson to help with the current lesson.

Now let me ask this and I will catch a lot of flack for this I know. But, here goes. Could it be that there are enough non-english speaking, and LD students that we need to rethink the way our schools are structured? Do you think there may be enough students out there that run amuck and the parents just don't give a darn that it effects our kids that do want to learn? (Check out Where do you draw the line? in that school vent section) I have 1 child that is ADD and because we stayed on top of him he did well. No thanks to his 4th grade teacher. She told me she did not have the time to check off a check list. Now that was 15 years ago. He finshed school 2 years ahead of his class. My daughter was smarter than her teachers in High School. Now I have a son in 3rd grade, he is smart as a whip, yet he did not catch onto reading until last year. I held him back in 1st grade, if anyone thinks I will hold him back now they have lost their mind. He goes to the best school in the area.

    That's all for now.

    Very well-said!!

  4. First---No....I don't think that's the only reason he asked that question. That is a BIG issue right now and it could very well have been asked by anyone else.

Second---No again....there are gay people who would show more respect for the institution of marriage than some straight people. I don't think gay marriage would take away from the sanctity of marriage....I think it's idiots who jump head first into a marriage and say "Well, if it doesn't work out, we could always get a divorce!" <--THAT is disrespecting the institution of marriage.

I haven't read anywhere that he gave her a zero for her answer. :pardon: Saw the front-runner thing, though.

link to article where Perez Hilton admits giving zero

There you go. Didn't have to look to hard either.

  5. I don't think Perez Hilton is the reason she lost....it wasn't even the question....it was the WAY she answered it.

She stumbled all over her tongue, repeated herself a few times and said STUPID things....like:

    >We live in a country where you can choose same sex marriage, or opposite marriage....<

WTH???? No we don't!!! Otherwise it wouldn't be an issue right now. What the hell IS opposite marriage anyway?

Then she went on to say:

    >I THINK I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman....<

Well? Do ya or don't ya? You can't THINK you believe something. You either DO or you DON'T! Plain and simple.

Bottom line---I'm glad she lost bc she didn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box.

    >>>Let the bashing begin! I can take it!<<<

Even though he even admitted giving her a zero for her answer and stated that until she answered the question, she had been the front-runner?? Not bashing, just saying.

  6. Nooooo, no you...never...:p BTW, stay on here, I'm PM'ing you.

    You???? Joke??? Noooooooo....never......

I know a few who partake and bet everone here is around someone who smokes, whether they know it or not. Personally I don't do it, can't stand the smell of it, but I have NO problems with it. The good Lord put it on this earth for our smoking pleasuer, so why not. I think it's stupid that it's illegal..but that's a subject for another thread. :ninja:

He also made volcanoes and cliffs too.....

  7. You could build a bench out of an old bed. My husband and I had an old headboard and footboard in the basement collecting dust. I had seen some neat benches at antique stores and wanted one, but didn't want to pay what they were asking, so we made our own (and didn't kill each other in the process!).

  8. Me too LGM.... but I think I'm addicted to my Farm Town even more..........and YoVille......

I have pretty much abandoned Yoville for Farm Town. I thought I had it bad until the other morning, my husband came in the bedroom and said, "Hey, I signed you onto FB on your laptop while I was on mine and hired you to harvest my crops!" I said, "What time is it?" He said, "6:15." Then he said, "Oh, and you have some stuff that will need harvesting soon." Sheesh.

  9. That's actually great --- slow and steady on the weight loss means you have a better chance to keep it off.

You need to think LIFE-STYLE-CHANGE and not that 4-letter word (Diet) if you want long term success.

    GOOD LUCK :)

    Exactly!!!

  10. My favorites of LOST so far have been Miles, Hurley, Mr. Eko and Ben (only b/c he plays that character REALLY well... poor dude will be typecast forever! )

Good episode ... it finally builds on Mile's character.

Completely agree. I was glad to see a Miles-centric episode.

  11. A pandemic would be a national disaster we'd be wise to be prepared for.

Katrina was a local disaster caused as much if not MORE by local politicians who failed to act appropriately and responsibly when they should have acted in SOME WAY.

I am not a big Bush defender, but that criticism is unfairly placed on the shoulders of one person when in truth, there was plenty of blame to go around--and an onus of it to LOCAL officials.

    :clapping:

  12. Disclaimer: I didn't click on the link; I just read the info posted here.

So a family pay 22 years on a mortgage and then the breadwinner lost his job. Instead of living out of a car, etc. they moved back into their foreclosed home, pay all utilities, keep up the house and agree to move without notice if the property is resold or rented.

Is it better for the home to sit there with no occupants and just be the empty home that doesn't sale?

Basically it sounds like displaced families doing what they have to until they get back on their feet and potentially providing a service (house-sitting) for free.

I'm not saying that folks should just move from house to house to avoid paying rent, getting a job, etc. Not everyone conscientiously makes a choice to move into a home they can't pay for. This particular family paid a mortgage for 22 years (according to what was posted). Many folks have lost their jobs and can't find one that pays the same as they had before. Savings, IRA's, etc. can be gone through it before you know it even with careful planning. Not allowing these folks the opportunity to get back on their feet is a shame.

I think you might-a-should-a read it. Or at least go back and read Tabby's posts. She read it and made some very good points.
