  1. Sure they do. Instead putting up spec industrial buildings on county land in the Commerce Park, they are paying out $4,000,000 to put the top cost of asphalt in the subdivisions abandoned by so many of the RBMDs.

And take note that some of those same RBMDs are building more homes in those same subdivisions under a different company name but the same players. And THE FIRM is closing the sales. These same RBMDs were campaign donors to Austin and other local politicos.

Manufacturing and warehousing business's will not move here until there is an inventory of available space move in ready.

They have mismanaged taxpayers money and should have used the money for spec buildings, grading for pad ready sites..

  2. Yes, and the citizen group is seeking to organize themselves.

You do know that Todd gets to appoint someone of his choosing ( you mean its not you???) so I suspect that someone from your group will be appointed.

I think that's part of what they're trying to avoid is people in the audience complaining because this person was chosen and not that one as the citizen group has a big enough task ahead without making that 10 person committee a 30 person conglomeration. Since they are citizens actually trying to accomplish something I don't think they need much input from other citizens telling them how to be citizens on a citizens advisory board.

PS: I suspect that among the things the citizens committee will decide is how it will take input from other citizens not on the committee but since they haven't even been sworn or met for the first time, there can be no policy on that until after they meet. Surely, you grasp that they need to get organized before they even consider deciding things like that ...

As far as I am concerned, its a ruse, designed to ram as much change to benefit them and theirs before Jan 1....... Guess we'll find out Thursday.

  3. ""The Paulding County Board of Commissioners has called a Board of Commissioners Meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at The Watson Government Complex, 240 Constitution Blvd., Second Floor, Dallas, Georgia 30132. This will be an organizational meeting for the Board of Commissioners Citizen Study Committees for the Airport Authority and the Industrial Building Authority. This is a special called session, and the public is invited to attend however, there will be no public participation on any items."

I am kinda slow, what exactly is the Board of Commissioners Citizen Study Committees for the Airport Authority ?

It sounds to me like it has average, Joe Blow, citizens on it.

These Citizens study committees are more than likely comprised of carefully selected individuals who will come to the conclusion that legislation needs to be introduced to expand the IBAs scope and responsibility and that the Airport Authority needs bonding capability to in debt taxpayers for all the non FAA reimbursable infrastructure that comes with a commercial airport....

  4. Between this, the potential quality of life issues associated with the commercialization of the airport, the inevitable waste incinerator by the airport that is permissible under the Airport Overlay and has been discussed since 2004 and the reservoir being built adjacent and/or over natural gas and petro transmission pipelines I want out. This is going to make Clayton County a fabulous place to live in comparison to Paulding.

  5.

Does anyone have a list of web sites, etc. There is not a lot of information on some folks.

Most of the candidates have FB Pages. Most are getting websites updated and running this week. Keep an eye out and just google their names. As soon as we have all of them (or all we can find), I'll put a list together.

    www.electpattismith.com is up.

  6. My understanding in talking to Todd Pownall about the issue is that for whatever reason it was determined the bonds were uncollectable and the County knew that the roads would need to be paved an began setting aside money to do the job. However in looking at the situation objectively, given the cost inflation on thse type job vs. the length of time it would cost to save the money to do it, the decision was made to issue bonds to pay for the roads. I do not agree with how it was done via IBA bonds to circumvent the public voting on it but I see the point in that the work needed to be done sooner rather than later and what what it cost several years from now.

  7. Let me say first I have complained about the lack of good jobs in Paulding County for about 15 years. I was totally and absolutely opposed to Jerry Shearin and his administration for putting all their efforts into developing PRD's.

Jamie I hope you have influence on the local officials to show them they are looking like Boss Hog and his administration.

Yes we need good jobs, yes we need a tax base that is not dependent on houses, yes we need to all put our best foot forward to encourage economic development here. However I hope visitors do not view the Atlanta news stations where we look like the Dukes of Hazard today.

Yep, what do you expect when one of the "boys" even dressed up as Boss Hogg.... Lol!!

  8. Every bit of the back and forth so far seems to assume (on both sides) that what the end result will be is what Blake Swafford says it will be. A couple of commercial flights a week an the rest Areospace R/D and private usage. It ain't.

As earlier pointed out in another thread, most of the secrecy was to get this by three groups, City of Atlanta, Delta Airlines and the electorate that voted against the airport to begin with. Two of those three groups have something in common. They together control the World's Busiest Airport literally right down the road a piece.

There is a great deal of profit and prestige that comes along with that control. Decades of forward thinking and planning have been done by both under the assumption of the current airport being the only game in town. Look back at the statements made by Mayor Reed and the Delta CEO right after the news of the deal broke. When is the last time you remember the CEO of a global corporation making that negative of an open threat against a potential competitor? Much less a little piss ant airport out in the boonies, not even a competing airline. A politician sure, but a CEO?

Both these folks have seen and recognize the camels nose inside the door of the tent. The tent is here, the camel is here and the nose is here. If the rest of the head comes thru you can stop the debate and start deciding if you like this tent still or would you prefer another.

I figure you have about a decade before Paulding stops being a county with an airport, and the airport ends up being the county. It's not an if, it's a when.

Just ask yourself why 1/2 the AA wasn't at the meeting yesterday and was in Hong Kong? Hong Kong and Singapore are the home to large hedge funds... I think the airport has the potential with Asian investment $$ to be another Chicago Midway or Houston Hobby.

  9. I hope they find her and soon. Prayers to the people that were riding the motorcycles and their families.

However, I do have a question, I just want to understand this. How does a passanger get arrested for what a driver has done? I know they are husband and wife from reading the posts and the wife was driving. So, why did they arrest the husband for being drunk and he was on the passenger side? Even tho, I don't have a problem in the world with the officers doing so!

I was wondering that too. Maybe he had warrants.

I am also curious as to why he was administered a breathalyzer test if he had been ID'd as the passenger. Sounds like an overeach by police to me unless of course he was on parole.

  10. After much consideration I hope Bill Carruth wins but I will be typing in "Satan" if its an option, otherwise I'll leave it blank, I'll only vote for Carruth if it will not let me write in a candidate or leave blank. Take this as a quasi endorsement after remembering what someone told me about Mason Rountree. I have met Mason, thought a lot of him and if he is supporting Bill Carruth, god help us, then so be it.

  11. Pubby I agree the 30,000 home communities do sound like a fairy tale in this economic climate. But it is a fact hell asks Glen Richardson he was speaker of the House, when the measure was passed.

Fact is it was posted right here on Paulding.com when it was discovered that the General Assembly passed the law.

The law provides for a community of several different complexes which included a business park, Homes, Retail etc. All self contained that would provide their own utilities and also would collect the taxes and some developement cost up front. All this was in the Goldmine lake Airport area.

This law was passed shortly after the construction of the airport began.

Secrets have a way of being exposed and this project was exposed right here on P.com

Sorry Pubby no bunk here just some facts of what everyone tried to keep secret that had anything to do with the airport.

Just for my information is there any way to do a search on p.com beyond the two years that seems to be the cut off?

Okay... I presume that Carmichael had no knowledge of any of the events surrounding the airport. Then that begs this question what did he do for the eight years that he has served on the Airport Board? Was he serving as just a yes man?

JSYK the surveying is being done right now to connect to the sewerage

    Whitey-

If this is what you are referring to? There was certainly not 30,000 houses planned in this development, probably a couple of thoudand at best. This won a national EDA award back in 2007.. I have not heard if this plan has been scrapped or is pending dependent upon what the City of Atlanta decides to do with this property, still it technically still is contention (2nd from bottom I believe of 5 or so sites) for a site commercial airport.
