  1. Clothing and hats will not protect you. Zinc Oxide is not pretty, but it is the safest. Just curious which year your Grandmother was diagnosed?
  2. So in your experience as a server, it doesn't bother you that several of the comments made were insulting to your profession? I agree with NC-17...keep your grumpy asses at home if you don't want the server to engage in polite conversation.
  3. "Don't make small talk with me, just take my order!" "You're being way too cheery! Stop talking to me so politely! You're being so nice - it must be insincere!" "Bring me a refill, but don't you dare look me in the eyes!" "Bring out my entree course 0.000234758956 seconds after I've finished your horribly prepared hors d'oeuvre." "Serve me a five star gourmet restaurant meal, but I'm only paying you the for the cost of a soy meat cheeseburger meal." "By the way even though your service has been excellent, I'm only paying you the percentage of a soy meat cheeseburger meal.
  4. I answered a Hemingway trivia question tonight that would have made my favorite teacher from PCHS proud. Does anyone know if Mr. Woody Bowdon is still teaching? I thoroughly enjoyed his Ambrose Bierce, Mark Twain and Bret Harte lectures, and also fondly remember him discussing the Civil War reenactments at Pickett's Mill in which he participated.
  5. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You better go now while the gettin' is good. Seriously, people are already posting on Facebook that the stores are already out of certain items...and you know what those two items are.
  6. Now is the time to go to the North Georgia Premium Outlets to stock up on winter clothes. I've purchased leather jackets, pea coats, etc. for over 85% off the original price. They start replacing all the winter stuff around the first week of February with their spring clothing lines, so you really need to visit before February. Also, be sure you inspect the garments in places like the GAP and Ann Taylor for sub-par pieces. Sometimes they design clothing specifically for their outlet stores and it's not comparable to the original stores line of clothing.
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! The NIST is a division of the US Department of Commerce...surely y'all didn't think they would release anything that would be in opposition to what our Government wanted you to believe?
  8. How often are you having to run your self clean cycle to remove the detergent build up and musty smell? I am averaging about once a month and was curious if this was normal for everyone. We use water and sewer from county.
  9. Yes!!! Please share the recipe with us. I am always on the lookout for NON-SOGGY!!!! Squash recipes. Soggy squash frightens children and small animals. LOL
  10. The breast cancer link has not been confirmed and is still being researched, so everyone can still wear anti-perspirant/deodorant. Dove seems to be about the best I have found. Make sure you use a plain white paper towel after applying to remove any exess - this step makes all the difference. I've used just about everything (including the crystal and other "natural" ones out there) and Dove soothes, keeps you dry, and smelling fresh.
  11. Bake them with parmesan cheese and butter. Of course, be sure to inspect for shell particles, because nothing ruins the wonderfulness of an oyster like biting into a piece of shell.
  12. Thank you everyone for your help! I really didn't want to have to "Google" the soup recipe, because I was hoping the same recipe as my Grandmother's would still be fresh in everyone's mind that grew up in Paulding county and have passed it down through the generations. For example, I didn't want Wolfgang Puck's/Emeril's recipe for traditional Southern Vegetable soup. Know what I mean? :Þ Thanks again everyone for your help.
  13. I am craving my grandmother's vegetable soup. She has been gone 10 years now and unfortunately, I didn't have the forethought to write down her recipes. Canning was a big to-do every summer with the vegetables from her garden. I would love if someone could post their vegetable soup recipe so I can attempt to re-create my grandmother's wonderful "pot of soup". Here's what I remember from my childhood: Using a knife to remove the kernals from a fresh ear of corn. (SilverQueen corn of course!) Big, thick globs of tomates,Lima beans, maybe okra, and ??????? I've forgotten everything else aft
  14. We would like to stay somewhere between home (Sandy Springs) or a maximum of 3-4 hour drive. We're up for anything!
  15. Is it on microfilm at the library or at the newspaper office? Has anyone viewed the older copies and if so, how are they organized?
  16. Another good place to investigate would be the Hospital. You would probably have to do it under the radar and individually. Lot's of paranormal activity there.
  17. In the early 1900's my Great Grandmother's cousin (Brown/White families from Yorkville) was slain by her husband. He cut off her breasts and hung her body from a tree on Wolf Pen Road. He was eventually arrested and the police officers were taking him from the jail to the court house when her brothers appeared, asked the officers to "step aside", and they shot and killed him on the spot. It's probably the only case (that I'm aware) of swift justice that has ever been carried out here in Paulding County.
  18. Are you familiar with the story of the murders and why the jail murder was committed?
  19. Anyone have any stories from the building where the deceased from the plane crash were held for the coroner and identification? I have an engineer friend that worked in the building several years ago and would always have something new to discuss. Not sure what is in the building these days. A good place to consider is the site of the old jail. My relatives killed/were killed back in the early 1900's in the front of the jail.
  20. Here's mine and be warned it's very UN-Politically Correct! We were waiting in line to order food at some fast food restaurant in Hiram and the guy in front of us was acting very strangely. My four year old son loudly asked me and the rest of the crowd, "MOM! Is that guy on DOKE????!!!!" Obviously he was on some kind of dope, but I wasn't about to point out the obvious. We left the store real quick-like after he said it.
  21. Tynan touched so many people in ways he will never know. Anthonie and I love you Gayle and Bill. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Constance & Anthonie Curtis
  22. A beloved teacher of mine from Union Elementary School passed away and I have no contact information for the family. If someone out there is aware of the arrangements, please post them so we can send our condolences to the West family. Janet was the sweetest woman I have ever met.
  23. I just found this notice. What happened and which funeral home will be conducting the service?
