  1. LOL.

Nor am I wowed by their far left agenda. I will never voluntarily give any sort of control over my life, let alone four years as leader of the State of Georgia, to a Democrat. Why would I give that kind of a power to a man who believes government is the answer to every conceivable ill of mankind and supports the current Obama administration? I won't.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a Paulding resident. However, I am a registered voter in the State of Georgia and never miss an opportunity to cast my vote.

  2. Unless you or an officer or an heir to a Fortune 500 company, voting for a Republican is like peeing in a pair of dark pants. It gives you a nice warm feeling; but nobody notices. ;)

Is that why Chris Matthews felt a tingling down his leg.

I am not fooled by the democrat party's hard left agenda.

  3. Pubby, all I can speak to is my own personal experience having just lived to tell about an IRS audit of my 2007 and 2008 returns. According to the IRS the accountant did make an error which will cost ME approx $250. However, that doesn't absolve me of the guilt of the error or the payments due. Guess who's responsibility it is to review the return prepared by the accountant? MINE! Does the IRS think I attempted to defraud them? No. They didn't even suggest that. All they really care about is if I pay the $250, including the penalties and interest which will continue to accrue daily until they receive the check. Oh, and for the record, the IRS rep I had was awesome!

BTW, I haven't even looked at Barnes' disclosed tax returns. Not even the one that is the topic of this thread.

But, you're honest. Barnes is a trial lawyer - 'nuff said.

  4. I heard that when he looked at the mistake he discovered another one that indicates the government owes him $30,000. The point I am trying to make is that we can expect accusations about both of them to surface. We will just have to be good investigators and do some good research of our own. Politics stinks and people are brave to step into it. JMO

Just to make sure voters compare apples to apples and to confirm NJ's point:

Barnes' camp acknowledges tax break error by Shannon McCaffrey

Associated Press Writer The Marietta Daily Journal October 15, 2010 12:00 AM

ATLANTA - Roy Barnes claimed federal and state income tax breaks in 2008 and 2009 for depreciation on a house he doesn't own, his campaign acknowledged Thursday.

Cobb County property records show Barnes' daughter and son-in-law have owned the house in Marietta since 2007 when Barnes gave it to them. Barnes, the Democratic nominee for governor, owns several properties on the road.

Barnes campaign spokesman Emil Runge called it an accounting error and said, as a result, the former governor had underpaid about $7,500 in taxes for the two years. His accountant is amending the returns to remove the tax break.

News of the tax discrepancy was first reported by the Savannah Morning News.

Runge said Thursday that in the course of reviewing Barnes' taxes his accountant found another error in 2008 that will deliver the former governor an additional tax refund of about $30,000.

That mistake involved a loss on the sale of shares in Habersham Bank. Barnes initially reported a gain of approximately $34,000 which should have been a loss of approximately $135,000.

Runge said the refund would more than offset the 2008 federal tax underpayment.

Barnes has attacked his Republican opponent Nathan Deal for not paying enough in taxes.

And the Deal campaign seized on the discrepancy Thursday.

Deal spokesman Brian Robinson said Barnes "has spent the entire campaign throwing rocks from his glass house."

"We forgive Roy for his 'accounting' error," Robinson said, adding Barnes' legal work has raked in hundreds of millions of dollars in verdicts, "which makes it difficult to keep track of your kingdom and how many houses you own."

But Runge fired back that Barnes has been completely transparent with his taxes - releasing 25 years of full returns. Deal, meanwhile, has posted 29 years of cover pages for his tax returns, not schedules and other details.

"The voters of Georgia sure would like an opportunity to review Deal's complete tax returns to learn what he's hiding," Runge said.

  5. dang it - I thought congress said they were just going to stick it to the "rich folks."

    The Democrats definition of "rich":

"If you pay federal taxes, you are rich."

Wonder where all the Obama supporters are? shouldn't they be here telling us how the stimulus packages we got stuck with in the past year are making things better? Or how Obama isn't going to raise our taxes? Or how things were so much worse under Bush and the Republicans?

I really wanted to give Obmama the benefit of the doubt when he got elected, but unfortunately, he is turning out exactly as I feared. This whole "evil rich" and "evil businesses" thing is so dang stupid. The rich and the businesses are what drive the freakin economy! So what if the the CEO makes 9000 times what we do? If he is running a profitable company that is employing 1000s of people, he is doing more to stimulate the economy than ANY politician!!

And so what if the gap between the richest and the poorest is widening?? You know how to make that even worse? Tax the crap out of the richest so that they protect more of their money instead of investing it in ventures that employ people!!

If you raise taxes on the rich, they will just find ways to shelter more of their money. That is why they are rich, because they know how to make and save money!!!

    Ok. I feel better.

    Well said!!

  6. This letter to the editor of the MDJ puts Barnes in perspective:

    DEAR EDITOR:

Roy Barnes can equivocate as much as he wants - but ultimately, he cannot divorce himself from the party of Obama. His glib deflection of "yes or no" questions regarding whom he would support, or how he would vote, are indicative of a reluctance to associate himself with the Democrats as presently nationally constituted - but he cannot refute that his election would redound to the ultimate benefit of Obama because it would have a direct impact on the redistricting of our congressional districts, conceivably placing more Obama Democrats in office.

Democrats have, under Obama, turned this country into the political equivalent of an insane asylum. His utter and total inadequacy in dealing with matters of state; his pursuit of policies which have had a devastating effect on our economy and our status as the world's only superpower; his cavalier disregard for our Constitution; his arrogance, insolence and degradation of the office of the president all argue strongly for, if not outright impeachment, then at least a single term only.

Roy Barnes is a good man - but he is also a Democrat, a member of the party of Obama - and that alone is sufficient reason to deny him the Governor's mansion.

The Marietta Daily Journal - Obama good reason to vote against Roy

  7. Are you talking out your backside or what? You do not know me and I vote for the BEST candidate. It does seem I defend many republicans on here because some of you are so NASTY about them and their lives. It is ridiculous and childish and very off putting to those of us that just want actual facts, not smears, innuendo, presumptions or pieces of facts made to look as if the world is ending.

    :wub::good:

  8. I'm not one of those Democrats, then. I work an hourly job, and I like keeping my money. I think that there's a place for government, but I'm not looking for it to get any bigger. I can't hardly keep up with all of the bureaucracy as it stands, so Lord knows I can't take any more of it.

My point is that your experience is your experience, but applying a universal principle because of it is a bad idea. Look, there are Tea Partiers out there that have held up some pretty deplorable signs, and I would venture to call those particular individuals racist. Not hardly all of them, but sure, there are some out there. But for me to extrapolate that one experience as a universal truth is dangerous, because I know darn well that it's not true. Democrats are doing it too, and I'm not okay with that, because it's a damned lie. Not all Tea Partiers are racist (in fact, nearly all are just fine people, like those that post here daily), just as not all Democrats are tax and spend liberals. My experience with Will is that he is not a tax and spender. But the point I try to make is that just because there is a (D) next to his name, does not mean he is in the ilk of Nancy Pelosi, no matter what others would want to think.

Might be a nicer person and not the extremist that Pelosi is, but the D says the person is likely to support the agenda that Obama-Pelosi-Reid are implementing. But, I would have to talk to the candidate and I would have to investigate their past record. But, they would still be very suspect.

  9. Guilty or not she is electable as long as she is a Republican. I'm betting that Paulette could have been found guilty on a crime and these people would still find a reason.

Charges were dropped. But what if she plead guilty to a crime. Would you still back her?

I don't get to vote in Paulding. But, as far as the above is concerned, did you notice that Charlie Rangel, that crooked Dem, won his primary and is looking for yet another term in congress?

Rangel is likely far more guilty than Paulette (who is guilty of nothing).

Looks like pat calling out kettle.

  10. That's just an ignorant statement. You really don't know what you are talking about. There have been times when Roy was too liberal for my taste, and times when I disagreed with his position an a matter, but you will be hard pressed to find any REAL dirt on Roy.

Think about it. If there was any dirt out there the Pub Rubbers would be talking about that instead of his "Obama Connection".

Me too. And what I'm hearing it is not allegations. ;)

You're right and I apologize for being a jerk.

  11. Do you really think Nathan Deal is a good choice for governor? I'll admit that if there were a decent, honest Republican candidate I would be voting for the Republican instead of Barnes. But Nathan Deal is just a low life piece of white trash.

I could swear you are talking about Barnes.

  12. I have a used one that is 6 years old. It worked great until I picked up a nasty invader. I've had it cleaned, wiped out and refurb (supposedly) and it still won't work right. How much would you charge to look at it? It's a Toshiba if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Nick will have it running like new. I think he charges about $40.00 if you drop it off.

do you fix computers? my laptop's keybored has been acting up. the light went out on it and some of the keys don't type sometimes. We've called Dell a few time because it's under warranty and the people they send out can't seem to fix it.

    Nick can fix anything.

  13. I guess that I always thought that Lane was concerned with keeping cases out of the courtroom and was highly likely to work out a plea in cases.

It would be interesting to know the percentage of cases presented to the DA's office actually made it to trial as well as the number that were bargained down to reduced charges.

That was exactly what happened with my case and both you and I know that the guilty party should have been tried, had his licence revoked for life and been thrown in jail for around 10 years.

  14. Georgia Dawg:

His height is part of his commanding courtroom demeanor.

But the ability to cross examine a witness is but one aspect of being a lawyer and especially a district attorney.

He worked as a police officer, he was not the Captain or department head. In his legal career, he never worked in a law firm larger than his own sole proprietorship. I suspect he possibly has a secretary or two.

Bottom line he has no experience managing a law office with a half-dozen attorneys or more. Is he a good boss? Is he respectful to professionals (other attorneys and others) or even people in the general public (such as myself) or is he the same arrogant bully he's proven himself to be in other places and other times.

Bottomline, the world would be a pretty bland place if there weren't Dick Donovans around and we can all recognize "that's just Dick" ... But we don't need this kind of personality in the DA's office. Yes, we're talking about a hiring an older man -- 62-64 years old -- to come in an run a bigger office than he has ever had, with thousands of more cases on the table and thousands more coming every year. Oh, and did I mention smaller budgets in the coming years.

You guys say, go ahead and say that he can replace staff. What happens to the cases in progress in which the current Assistant DAs have 70 hours in ... do we hire a new ADA to put in another 70 hours on that case. With close to a thousand current cases in process, how much money do you want to spend/waste changing in midstream?

And for what? Dick is four years away from retirement. What is his burning passion? To get a state retirement?

    pubby

Finally, the idea that the DA's office is not operating properly is largely an exaggeration.

Gosh, I hope you ask the same question about Roy Barnes, who was born in 1948 and is 62 years old. He may be looking for a state retirement based on your thinking.

  15. Oh really?

He's got an ADA on his staff that came in after one trial, one in which he failed to prove his case, and told us that his hands were clean and if anything happened to this child that his blood would be on our hands. If he had done a better job proving his case perhaps we would have decided in his favor. That ADA needs to go too.

BTW, it was Dick Donovan's method of questioning, rebuttal, and his overall commanding courtroom demeanor that I was impressed with - not his height. That sounds like a superficial person's opinion who would be impressed by one's appearance.

I was never very impressed with Drew and his staff. I'd be OK with a reorganization top to bottom.

  16. Did it ever!!!!! He didn't count on Zell havin' a come-to-Jesus moment after being around those morons in DC (esp. after 9/11). I love Zell.

I agree re Zell. He is one of the few Democrats who has impressed me. I remember. "I did not leave the party, the party left me."

Oh, I'm definitely not disagreeing. Barnes' mouth is writing checks his butt can't cash. rofl.gif

    Lest anyone forget

There are some great photo ops with him and John Edwards. His attempts at "redistricting" the state. His attempts to remove teachers' tenure.

Good points. We will need to continue to remind folks.

  17. PSD, you are wrong about this one. I have been knowing the Barnes family for many years, a few decades to be more precise, and I can assure you that Roy has absolutely nothing in common with Obama. All the Barnes, not JUST Roy, are some of the most conservative people I know.

When Roy left office the last time the state budget was in the black. Sonny Perdue is an idiot. With or without a bad economy, Sonny would have stolen every dollar he could get his fat mitts on. I will bet you a weeks pay that when Roy comes out of office in 2015 the state will be hitting on all 8 cylinders again.

Roy may be a good friend of yours, but I won't risk my vote on a Democrat. I'm not fond of Sonny either. Handel is my choice.
