  1. I posted about this last month but some insisted it was not that big of a deal. Looks like the budget is a big deal and the governor thinks it is important too. The problem is that we can't afford the feel good laws that "get tough" on crime. We have to start making choices about what crimes we want to say are no longer worthy of long sentences or even prison time at all.

    If anything should be a top priority, it should be to keep us safe. Getting tough on criminals is absolutely a priority. As long as that is the purpose, I am fine with it. Let's wait and see.

  2. Here we go again.

    Toyota recalls 2.1 million vehicles in U.S. over acceleration

    Toyota announced Thursday morning that it is recalling another 2.1 million vehicles in the United States for problems related to unintended acceleration. The latest recall is a massive setback for the company's efforts to move beyond the highly publicized safety defects that prompted Congressional hearings and led to staggered sales.

    The concern over Toyota's quality had seemed to be receding. Last month, U.S. investigators ruled out defects in Toyota's engine electronics as a cause of the sticking accelerators.

    But the announcement on Thursday revives the old questions about the autos' safety. Another 2.1 million cars are being recalled because unsecured or ill-fitting floor mats could entrap the accelerator, causing the car to speed without the driver pushing the pedal.

    Among the cars being recalled are:

    * Approximately 603,000 2003 through 2009 4Runners

    * Approximately 17,000 2008 through 2011 Lexus LX 570 autos

    * Approximately 761,000 2006 through 2010 RAV4 vehicles

    * Approximately 372,000 2004 through 2006 and early 2007 RX 330, RX 350 and RX 400h vehicles

    * Approximately 397,000 2004 through 2006 Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles

    * Approximately 20,000 2006 and early 2007 Model Year GS 300 and GS 350 All-Wheel Drive vehicles

    The automaker has now recalled more than 14 million vehicles globally. The safety fears erupted in 2009 after a high-speed crash near San Diego killed a California highway patrol officer and three family members.

    It wasn't until the family's fraught 911 call seconds before the crash was released that the company and federal regulators seemed to give more credence to consumer complaints.

    Toyota and federal regulators have pledged to respond more quickly to complaints about the vehicles' safety.

  4. From today's MDJ...for those who own Toyota Lexus models:

    Toyota recalls 1.7M cars for fuel leaks

    From wire reports

    TOKYO — Toyota recalled nearly 1.7 million cars worldwide Wednesday for possible fuel leaks, the latest in a ballooning number of quality problems that could further tarnish the company’s reputation in the United States.

    The recalls are mostly in Japan, but include Lexus IS and GS luxury sedans sold in North America. That’s where the world’s No. 1 car company faces the biggest challenges in winning back customer trust.

    U.S. dealers will inspect cars to see if loose fuel pressure sensors caused leaks.

    There were no accidents suspected of being caused by those problems, according to Toyota. The car maker has received 77 complaints overseas, 75 of them in North America, and more than 140 in Japan.

  5. If all goes according to plan, I will begin a temporary job next week that is expected to last for the remainder of the year. While I'm a little sad about leaving the computer repair business, I'm excited about the opportunity to return full time to the aviation industry, which I have been involved with for 20 years.

    For the time being, I will not be accepting any computer repair work. After a month or two, and once I have had a chance to adjust to the new job, I may begin offering extremely limited computer service. For anyone that has purchased any hardware from me that is still under warranty, I'll still be available to resolve any problems that may arise. If anyone needs to contact me, please use my email address instead of PM's as there will be extended periods when I will not have access to pcom. My address is mike@afriendlygeek.com Speaking of pcom, I still plan to be active, just not as active. I'll try to help answer tech questions and post info about anything important in the tech world. Thanks to all of you that have trusted me with your computer babies. It has been an honor and a pleasure helping you.

    Mike

    Mike, congratulations!

  6. The folks who made the board (invision power) upgraded the board version (3.13) to fix some of the issues that we've been dealing with since that upgrade. We hope to accomplish the upgrade to 3.14 this weekend - probably very early Saturday morning.

    Your understanding is appreciated.

    Hopefully, this will fix my current problems with no notifications and the inability to post and edit in Firefox (my cursor disappears).

  7. This election, on a local, state and national level, has been an especially tough one. I have tried to reason it out and attribute my feelings due to getting older and becoming more aware of the issues; however, coming from a very political family growing up, I have been exposed personally to many, many elections and the consequences. Although I have never run for office and never intend to, I have been very involved in many political campaigns - sometimes it is just not any fun.

    Can we all agree that all of the candidates, their families and friends deserve our best wishes and prayers? Putting partisan politics aside, these people have made tremendous sacrifices simply by striving to do their part to make our world a better place in which to live by running for public office. Let's face it, people simply aren't knocking the door down to run for office these days. I know there are some that will argue that some only run for office for power; however, I truly don't see much of anything very glamorous about having your life and every move scrutinized as well as the lives of the candidate's family and friends. Put any one of us human beings under a microscope like these candidates are put under and I

    can pretty much say without reservation that WE ALL have something in our past we are not proud of.

    I have personally witnessed grown men break down and sob over campaigns that have caused so much stress and turmoil in the lives of their families and friends - it hurts to see things like that. You know, politics is just another example of "if it were so easy, we would all be doing it" - somebody has to step up to the plate and "do it" or nothing would ever be accomplished.

    I will admit that I have been critical at times of even our President. No, I don't agree with most of his strategies but I personally need to do a better job in praying for him to make the right decisions for our country and its people. And I have to keep reminding myself that when our elected officials act irresponsibly and not in our best interests, there is always another election looming around the corner in which we as voters can rectify the problem.

    I send my prayers, best wishes and support for each and every candidate running for office. I hope that once the election is over, regardless of the outcome, they can carry on with their lives happily and productively.

    Very classy. I wish all candidates and their families the best today.

  9. Okay, you don't have a dog in this race, but you prefer we elect a person that has a record of severe problems with honesty and apparently has no problem spending taxpayer money and raising taxes. But she is a Republican, or says she is.

    Now if you truly are conservative, would it matter to you which party the most conservative person in this race is a member of?

    I am a conservative Republican. The problem is that the Republican Party hasn't fielded a TRUE conservative lately. I mean come on PSD, John McCain?

    I understand and am really glad I don't have a dog over there! :rofl: And, John McCain was a weak candidate. But, I would take him for 10 years straight over Obama. Sometimes you don't have the best option. That's just the way it goes.

  10. see...he made my point for me

    Now we're not only stupid (The Postman), we're also idiots. Good thing our votes count the same as theirs. It must drive Democrats crazy since only they know what is good for the rest of us. And, that superior attitude is why I DO NOT support the Democrat party.
