  1. Say it ain't so.  Did you cry when you saw it drive away?  I know that you were proud of that car.  I do like the new ones too.

It was so valuable plus my wife never liked it (too harsh a ride an too fast for her); I had a guy give me my price; he sold it to a dealer in Dallas (TX) who listed it on e-Bay and just sold it for 25K more than I got for it. It's a crazy world out there.

But, the 05 is very nice; Amy loves it. I'll take you for a ride next time I am up that way. No tears but I do miss the 67.

  2. AcworthDad, we need to get on the same giving cycle so I can hitch a ride with you in the Vette.  MAYBE you'll let me drive it one day!

What center do you go to?  I normally give at the Cobb donor center on my way home from work.

FreeBird, I go to the one in East Lake. I sold the 67, took 1/2 the money and bought an 05.

  3. Got this info in an email from the Red Cross.

Give blood or platelets with the American Red Cross before vacation and you could spend a weekend in Miami. From April 1 through May 27, all blood and platelet drive participants can enter to win a trip for two to Miami. One lucky blood donor and one lucky platelet donor will each receive two Delta Air Lines tickets and a weekend stay at The Palms South Beach. The trip includes breakfast and lunch at The Palms South Beach, as well as one dinner for two, compliments of The Forge Restaurant or Jungle Queen Dinner Cruise.

Most healthy people, age 17 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Need an appointment?  Contact your company's blood drive coordinator, or visit us at www.givebloodredcross.org or call 1 800-Give Life.

Thank you for all that you do!

I was a regular (every 2-3 months) donor until about 7 years ago when they refused me because I had lived in Italy fpr a year.

The restrictions are now over so I'm 'back in the saddle'. I gave blood two weeks ago and have a calendar entry to remind me when my 56 days are up.

Please, if you do nothing else for other people, give blood!

  4. Every morning for the past 5 months, I have walked to the bus stop to wave goodbye to my children as they get on the bus.  While waiting mind you it is only 15 minutes, but no doubt there are 3 or 4 people leaving for work who are in such a hurry that they don't even stop at the stop signs.  There are children near their cars and they don't care, they proceed to just run the stop signs.  The speed limit is 15 mph's and they are clearly going faster than that.  What are these people thinking that they can't slow down for a stop sign and look out for these kids!!! Does anyone have any suggestions as how I should handle this?  I was thinking of standing in the road making them stop and ask them to please slow down and stop while children are present!  Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.  Thanks!

These people don't care about anyone but themselves. What you might do is make a note of the tag and vehicle make. Figure out where the vehicle "lives" and then publish a list of the offenders in the subdivision newsletter or deliver a strongly worder letter to their mailboxes.

  5. I have to say that I was almost sold on switching... until I called their toll-free number.  After quite a while on hold, I was finally able to speak to a real person... who informed me that he couldn't help.  I would have to call another office, which he would give me the number for.

Called the other office, and was told that they would "get back to me" after they check to see if I can get cable.  Of course, they originally contacted me when the service was turned on in my neighborhood, but it never made it to their computer system.  I guess they have their operating procedures, but it sure is frustrating all the same.

Excuse me while I bow out and check out the DirectTV website...  I simply will not pay Dish for the extra outlet that I'm really looking for...

Thanks for the advice, and please feel free to continue it!  I'm learning a lot here...

Best way to see what Comcast would cost is to go to www.comcast.com and enter your zip code. You'll see what's available and can order online without having to wait on the phone. I've never tried the dish but I've had Comcast since I moved to Powder Springs several months ago. The reception and the internet service have been great.

  6. Glad to hear that.  I've waited for the report for many months.

Drosser, Rodney Clark, Jr. was killed back in May on Dabbs Bridge Road when a car, driven by his father, mysteriously crossed the centerline and ran head on into a Ford Explorer.  You can search some Fastread archives for Publisher’s full report.

I'm the father of the driver of the Ford Explorer that was struck head on last May 25th by Mr. Clark. It takes a long time to get a completed report from the GSP SCRT team. They are understaffed and have to carefully prioritize their work, but, their work is excellent.

The report in the Clark case is completed and we expect it to be presented to the PC DA this week by the GSP.

I can only say how sorry I am about the loss of their son to the Pratts. I could have been in the very same position last May 25th.

  7. Are there any chruches in the area that have a support group for people going thru/or newly divorced?

I don't know about the churches around here but, Roswell United Methodist church had an excellent singles ministry and divorce support group when I went through a divorce 14 years ago. First United Methodist church of Marietta also has a singles group. I do not know whether it is as good as Roswell's. I also enrolled my son in Roswell's Rainbow's program for kids.

Good luck in your search and I am sorry to hear about the divorce. This is a terrible time of year to experience a divorce. I remember it well.

  8. I am looking for a good and above all honest and reasonable auto mechanic shop. I travel frequently and when my wife has car problems I need somewhere to send her without feeling she is getting ripped off.

Do you folks (especially ladies) recommend anyone in the general area (Hiram, Acworth, Kennesaw or North Marietta).

My last guy had to leave the business.

    Thanks for your input.

If your F150 is a newer model, try Team Ford. I get my Marauder worked on there. I have had no experience with Nissan/Infiniti, but I do use Acworth Towing and Auto at 770-529-1488 for my wife's Taurus.

For transmission work, use Marietta Transmission. Johnny Hawkins is the best.

  9. Now take your time on this one Ferg, you will need it..

When did I ever say anything against YOU?

Look back and give me examples...

I have on a daily basis posted my objections to this "W"ar and to this Idiot of a President, but I am pretty sure that I have never personally attacked you like you are currently doing.

Now, Look back and see if I did..

Maybe I did, but I am pretty sure that I have never made any comments at you..

Now if you are referring to comments that I made about Chuckle Head "W" or RABID NEO-CONSERVATIVES or so called "Chrisitians, you may have something.

Mr. Lear, the way in which you express yourself is beneath tacky.

I look forward to November 3rd. Here is to four more years of our President "W"!!!

And, Mr. Kerry, no hard feelings. Thanks for hanging in throughout the race. You just were not a qualified candidate.

  10. My first car was a 1961 Triumph Herald coupe. I paid $500.00 out of my own pocket for it but it was mine. It was purple on the bottom and white on the upper body. It started to give me problems so I put it up for sale. Got $450.00 for it and the buyer called a week or two later to complain that the brakes had failed!

  11. AcworthDad, Thanks so much for the offer. That's funny because my mom lives over there right off of 41 by the new Lowes. I'll see what my mom wants to do, she might want to hold off on getting it fixed right now beacuse she's selling her house and my grandmother (she has Alzheimers) is staying with her for a while. I'll keep you posted. Again, thanks for the advise.

Nygirl, I am within 5 minutes of her and would be glad to have a look and suggest what can be done. PM me and I will give you my home phone number; you can pass it along to her and she can call me if she wants me to look at it.

  12. Acworthdad, do you have anything that will correct for "overspray"? The Hyundai I just bought has little white spots all over it that I at first thought were dust........ :(

    Thanks

    Q

Yes, clay bar. You should be able to find it at Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Advance. There are various brands but they all work the same to pick up overspray from the surface of the paint. You'll need a solution of car wash soap and water to lubricate the paint while you do it so that you do not scratch the paint.

If the major part stores do not have it, Auto Color on Glover Street in Marietta will.

  13. Nygirl, I'd be glad to have a look at the scratches and tell your Mom what her options are. I do live in Acworth so we'd have to meet somewhere to see the car. I have lots of various polishes to remove and correct problems at home so if you ever get over this way, I'm near 41 and Acw-Due West Road.

  14. I need some help. My mom got some deep scratches in her new car (don't know how she did it.. and I'm afraid to ask :p ) and would like to get them fixed. Does anyone know of a place to get this done cheap? She's retired and doesn't want to spend too much money. If it were me, I wouldn't bother getting them fixed because my car is already 10 years old, but this is her first new car. Thanks in advance.

Show me a picture. If the scratches are really deep they will not be completely removed with buffing or polishing. Test them with your fingernail. If you can feel the ridge, they are deep and repainting is the only way to go. It may be possible to touch up the area with some clearcoat if they are not too deep but, that 'new look' will only be achieved with a repaint if they are deep.

  15. I was wondering if anyone knew how to clean headlight covers. Mine have a hazey film on them. To replace them would cost me over $200 a cover.

There is a product called Meguiar's plastic cleaner. That would be my first try. If they are still cloudy, you could try one of the glass cleaner/polisher kits (compound and drill fitting with a small buffer on the end). My wife's Taurus had the same problem and after about 15 minutes on each lens, they are now better than new.

If I can help you with this, PM me. I've been detailing cars since I was a teenager.

  16. acworthdad, I just recently purchased a 1962 M38A1 Jeep and was wandering what the requirements were for putting  vehicle in one of the shows. I'm trying to get hints and suggestions for restoring. :p

There are really very few rules for most shows. Assuming that your Jeep is a work-in-progress, I'd suggest attending some cruise nights just to look around, ask questions, etc.

There are lots of them in the area. Besides Dallas, I also attend and enjoy the one in downtown Cartersville on the first Saturday of each month. This one is new but has rapidly become very popular. You should plan to arrive by 4:30pm.

If I can help further, PM me. I am fairly well networked and perhaps I can help to answer some of your questions as you go through the restoration experience.

    Bob

  17. For those of you who enjoy car shows, there is a cruise night on the square in Dallas on the fourth Saturday of every month.

If you cannot get enough, please come to downtown Acworth next Saturday the 31st. We are hosting a cruise night starting at 4pm. We'll close Main Street and there will be lots of fun and cars for all to enjoy.

  18. I am thinking about dishing out $375.oo to the ad in the Paulding Neighbor for Driver's Education.  It is not the famous McTaggart Driver's Ed that I see around town but they are located on Main Street in Dallas. I was wondering if anyone had used them and what you think about Driver's Ed in general.  Just lookin for advice.

Thanks in advance for any response.

A far better driving education can be found at http://www.xtrememeasures.org/.

My son took a course through these people when he was 16. They teach you how to avoid accidents and how to recover from dangerous situations, driving your own vehicle. I paid $350.00 three years ago. It has paid me back recently when my son was in a head on collision. The accident could have been worse but he was able to drive off the road and into the grass. Unfortunately, the other driver was unskilled and drove onto the shoulder and struck my son's vehicle anyway.

As I said, this accident could have been much worse. I strongly recommend the xtrememeasures.org driving course. They teach you much more than how to drive in a straight line, how to park and how to stop.
