  1. My son's allowance is tied to coupons. He is the coupon man (he's 11) and in charge of cutting them and finding sales around our grocery list.

His allowance is how much we save, so he has a vested interest in doing a good job. Little snot hit me up for $30 once when we went to Kroger and they doubled.

Just an idea, it's a great way to teach the young ones the value of the dollar, and it technically doesn't cost you a cent.

  2. Thank you to everyone that has reached out to me about this event. I am posting all the details for the event below. Moderators, if this is too long, then by all means delete:

Outlined below is all the information and details you need to know and understand in order to help us have a successful and fun day. The military families who will benefit from your efforts will be grateful and thankful.

We have three different events that we are responsible that day. They are the following:

    · We will carry the American flag and 5 stars representing each of the services prior to the beginning of the game.

    75 volunteers are required.

    · We are the charity for the 50/50 Raffle. This is a very important event, because we raise funds by selling raffle tickets to the fans throughout Turner Field until the end of the second inning. The more we sell the more we benefit. 80 volunteers for this event.

    · We will have 2 booths at Turner Field with banners that we will ask fans to sign. These banners will then be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan as a show of our support to our troops. We need 20 people for this activity.

    · Additionally, you can purchase a ticket that we will give to a soldier so they may come to the game as a guest. These tickets are $12.00 each.

  3. I'm sorry I wish I could help.. but I have a list from hell to have completed before June gets here. BUT.. please keep posting any event volunteer help requests. I hope I can help out with the next one! :)

Thank you for thinking of us. We are also working the 4th of July game, so maybe you can jump in on that one. That game is usually sold out, plus the fireworks are awesome after the game.

  4. After reading this thread last week, I went and checked this place out on Saturday. I wanted to cook all the mothers that were going to be at my house yesterday some nice steaks.

The service was phenominal. I told the guy behind the counter that there were going to be a couple kids eating, so he cut us some "kid sized" ribeyes, but made sure the others were nice sized. You'll never see service like that at Wal-Mart.

After I started eating the steak, I literally wanted to say the blessing again . I used a butter knife for crying out loud.

I'll be trying out their pork chops tonight.

This is my meat shop going forward!

  5. Would be willing to have a Boy Scout Troop to help you with this? If so, I'll pass along the website to our Scout Master and see if he is intersted in the boys participating in this.

My family and I would lvoe to help, but we have a 2 year old and I'm not sure what we'd do with her while we help out and we don't want to leave her at home.

The Boy Scouts were the first group that we thought of when this opportunity presented itself (I have an 11 year old scout myself). Unfortunately, the Braves require anyone who is on the field with that huge flag to be 18. I'm sure it's a liability issue, plus from what I hear it is quite heavy.

What you might be able to do is let those that are old enough help out, and just buy the discounted seats for the rest (that's what I'm doing). Operation Homefront has bought an entire block of tickets for this game, so that the volunteers can sit with their families after they are done. The tickets are $12 each. Here is the link again: http://www.operationhomefront.net/Chapter_...er_ID=18#Braves

If you would rather call, just give them a ring. Let the ladies know that X number of you are volunteering, but the entire family will be attending so that they will make sure that your tickets are together.

  6. Okay call me lazy....I didn't bother to click the link.

Is this a day or night game? I'm not sure if I even have that day off.....12 year Veteran of the Marine Corps.....recently left Active Duty...and love this program.

If you PM me I would love to get my family involved in helping out at the ball park!

I almost never refuse a chance to get out and see the Bravo's play some ball!

    Carl

    Thanks Carl, and good question.

It's a day game. The buses will leave our office in Marietta at 9:15, and bring you back there after the game (save you the gas and parking expense).

I PM'd you the rest of the details. We'd love to see you.

  7. I just bought a used car myself, but not from that dealer. I know that for $30, Kauffman Tires will inspect the car from top to bottom. They found some worn brakes on the car and gave me an estimate, which I used to negotiate the cost off the price of the car. Best $30 I ever spent.

  8. Hello board,

First of all, I want to say that I think this is a great board. My wife and I moved to New Hope last month. This board has been extremely valuable in letting me know what's around me and where to eat and shop in my new part of the world.

Second, I wanted to offer the opportunity to posters to get involved with Operation Homefront on Memorial Day. We are a NFP that assists the families of our deployed soldiers. I have been on the board with these folks for about a year, and have been extremely impressed with the differences they make in the lives of the families of our deployed soldiers.

Memorial Day is "Operation Homefront Day" at Turner Field. The Braves are allowing us to display the huge American Flag on the field pre-game, set up some booths on the concourse and work the 50/50 raffle through the 2nd inning.

We need volunteers, as this is going to take over 100 people.

In exchange for your help (in addition to doing something patriotic on Memorial Day) we are providing shuttles from our office in Marietta to those who do not want to drive, lunch at Turner Field and of course, admission to the game. Your work will probably not take you beyond the 2nd inning.

I hope to meet some of my new neighbors!
