  1. I, too, have friends in Canada. They are doing their best to be transferred back to the states, because, no matter how bad we think our healthcare is, they say there's is worse. Here are some interesting recent links:

    A quote from one:

The first wait is to see their family doctor or find a general practitioner if they don't have a regular doctor. The second wait involves seeing a specialist. The third is for diagnostic procedures to determine a course of treatment, and the fourth is for the treatment itself. The report says it is not unusual for these waits to cumulatively exceed a year.

    A second quote:

    Among the Index’ findings:

Access to healthcare varies widely from province to province, whether in terms of availability of family doctors and midwives, the affordability and timely approval of new drugs or the waiting time to see a specialist.

Even the best-performing provinces do not provide the standard of care that is commonplace in Western Europe.

Canada lacks a culture of accountability and transparency in healthcare, and it still puts providers and bureaucrats ahead of consumers.

  2. Yeah, I did look her up and of course she is black. I should have known. This is the reason for the opposition on here about her moderating the debate.

WHAT??? Oh Good Lord. I'd feel the same if someone was writing a pro McCain/Palin book. I don't care if they're pink with purple polkadots. And, just for the record, some kid was talking about he N word and my son asked me why it was wrong to say the N word and I asked him what was the N word - He thought it was NAZI. I don't like racial biased people, it's not in my home and not in my associations.

  3. We've made more in the last 7 years than any other - except in 1987 when everything fell out. Didn't move any money then, don't plan to now. Market corrections happen. Oil is down which is great news!! Not worried. Only way I'd be worried was if I needed all of my investments today - and, you don't go into mutuals and stocks with that in mind. Not worried.

  4. The thing that bothers me is this... As I understand it the Governors off Cedarcrest starts inside Cobb. Only the entrance and Country club ar within Cobb. With that said, Cobb responds to ALL calls inside there even though they are in Paulding. Something about the only entance being in Cobb <_< My guess is that the children that live there will be going to Cobb Schools also.

Children in the Governors go to both Paulding and Cobb schools.......Arnall Court, the second road on the left, crosses the line. If you live in the first few homes on the left and right of that street, you're Cobb...the cul de sac is Paulding. There was a huge, huge agreement worked out between Paulding/Cobb/Mr. Horton for that development to span county lines. Over half of the homes are Cobb. A GREAT portion of the golf course is Paulding. Of course, some of those kids are in private schools - mostly Mt. Paran and Walker - and, I do know that several pulled from private to go to Allatoona this year.

  5. We were in White and Calhoun yesterday......filled up for $3.55.......did see stations around the outlet mall that were out of gas and, on the southbound side of the I-75 exits, the gas was higher than on the northbound side.

  6. (davidj6 wife)

Per my orthopedic surgeon (mcl, lcl &meniscus issues) - never use Nike Shox if you have knee problems. Best walking shoe for me (for 2 & 3 day cancer walks) Nike. I've heard excellent things about the Big Peach running store - (need to go due to sons cross country shoes need replacing)......The walk leader I've trained with swears by Fleet Feet and Phidippides in Sandy Springs.....I wasn't thrilled with Phidippides, but LOVED Fleet Feet. Prices were same as I found in other stores, but the knowledge was phenomenal AND after putting 45 miles on a pair of shoes and still not comfortable - they took the shoes back and gave me 90% credit against another pair of another brand. Saucony and Brooks are tops in walking for many people, but the orthopod says pay attention to your own feet for pronation and arch, then pick whats best for you. Invest in the Thorlo socks....they're awesome.....Can't do either walk this year due to mcl/meniscus in right knee now braced...have great people to hook you up with if you're interested.

  7. We were heading north on main street heading to HenrysLouisiana Grill and a fire truck passed us....when we got to Cowan, there were trucks and police at the old Days Chevrolet, but there were more at the old shopping center just past there. We had no idea what was happening.......

  8. Years ago, when Moby was on 101.5 and read the following, it truly changed my life. I've since ordered a print, a journal, etc. I keep a copy on my refridgerator, my mirror so I read it every morning, my day planner, etc. I don't always live it, but I try. I pray people think more of me that that poor miserable creature whose family can't find peace.

    The Dash

    copyright 1996 by Linda Ellis

I read of a reverend who stood to speak

at the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on her tombstone

    from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth

and spoke of the following date with tears.

But he said what mattered most of all

was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time

that she spent alive on earth.

And now only those who loved her

know what that little line is worth.

    For it matters not, how much we own;

    the cars...the house...the cash.

What matters is how we live and love

and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard.

Are there things you'd like to change?

For you never know how much time is left.

You could be at dash mid-range.

If we could just slow down enough

to consider what's true and real

    and always try to understand

    the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger

    and show appreciation more

and love the people in our lives

    like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect

and more often wear a smile...

    remembering that this special dash

might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read

with your life's actions to rehash,

would you be proud of the things they say

about how you spent your dash?

  9. I was 15, hanging out at my best friends house laying across her bed talking about the boy we both "loved", no air conditioning, sipping coke icees when it came across the bottom of the screen. Her mother started screaming, her older sister ran to tell us to come quick, my mom called to say she was on her way to pick me up because Elvis had died (like, what was I supposed to do?) We were listening to the Eagles album and singing into the fan to make that funny noise. (davidjswife)

  10. .... and while we're at it, let's abolish the IRS, so that WE THE PEOPLE can invest, work with, do with, as we please as much of our money as possible. :)

The IRS collects the taxes that pay for the government sponsored assistance programs - along with infrastructure, etc. I agree - abolish and go with Fair Tax. However, I don't think you will ever get the welfare/assistance mentality out of the american culture....It's too deeply ingrained. Before SS/Disability/Welfare, etc., churches and neighbors and families took care of their own. I believe that without the mandatory taxes we have now, churches would see more donations - as would food banks - neighbors/friends/family would have more money to help with those of their own who are less fortunate/handicapped/disabled, etc.

  11. Yes. I was also a cheerleader.

with Connie, Melissa, Roxy, Debbie L. etc?? I can't remember who all was on the squad with you. I was not one of the popular kids. Backwards, shy, family didn't have much. Didn't "fit" with anyone in particular, but usually ended up with the smoke hole girls just because they were always nice to me where the popular kids weren't. Got a bad rap due to hanging out with them. Like many girls, I had a BAD crush on Jeff for a while.....He never knew.

Hello Lynn Hughes. This is Jeri Wallace. Tell the family "hello" for me.

Jeri, were you Kim's older sibling?

  12. I graduated in 1980, I haven't heard anything about a reunion with the classes of '78 and '79. When and where?

This year, it's 77, 78 and 79 getting together. I (wife of davidj6) went to the 10 year class of 79 reunion. Would prefer to go to class of 1980 as that is who I grew up with......I picked up summer school credits to graduate early with class of 79 so I could get MARRIED.......How stupid was that??? Married in 1980 .....divorced in 83.....oh well. If class of 1980 has a reunion that you do hear of, please post on pcom!!!
