I am re-posting from another thread about TSPLOST from a couple of weeks ago. My opinion has not changed; I will be voting NO. -DV

It's possible that your card number was stolen at a local business, but it is far more likely it was stolen during one of several major security breaches at the credit card processing facilities. These stolen credit card numbers are sold online by the criminals who stole them to other crooks who use the information to create a fake credit card which they can use in stores that don't require a security code or PIN. It happened to me recently. My bank was on the ball and noticed the unusual activity before I did and shut the card down. Since this happened, I have stopped using my debit card

Good thread Go BLUE, thanks for starting it. The communications industry is in a weird transition phase right now. We have pretty much transitioned away from analog signals (over the air and via cable) to digital signals (over the air and via cable). Expect see further shake-up of the industry as the line between phone, internet, TV, and even cell phone service continues to get blurred. Where we're headed is all an digital signal transmitted over a fiber optic backbone with the 'last mile' of the connection being wireless via new technology developed at Bell Labs. We're still a few yea

The rich boys are still telling the BOC what to do. Go look at campaign contributions and you'll see. I don't know how we compare to neighboring counties, but the politics in Paulding County stinks to high-heaven, and it always has. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Open it up so that all information is easily accessible on the web. That's the only way we'll ever fix it. Surprisingly, the state of Georgia has already set an excellent example that we should follow: http://open.ga.gov/

I too voted for Austin last time, and I will not be voting for him again. I'm looking for a candidate who won't waste our money. There have been many examples of wasteful spending at the county level in the last 3 years. Spending $1.3M litigating a case that could have been settled out of court for $100K is wasting our money! Millions are being spent to support their "build it and they will come" philosophy (airport expansion, toll road, movie studio). Anything is fair game as long as the term "economic development" can be tacked onto it. I think it was the economist Herbert Stein who

I have a couple of concerns about this referendum: The Tax Reform Act just passed by the Georgia State Legislature requires that companies from other states that sell products to be shipped to Georgia must charge Sales Tax. This will be reciprocated by the other states. That means that this 1% sales tax will be tacked on to the Internet sales of Georgia companies which are shipped outside the state. This will make Georgia companies less competitive and will cost jobs. Most of the projects on the list for Paulding County appear to be expansion/improvement of existing roads. The W

I'll split a role with you. Last year I made some cages out of lighter gauge fence wire and they did not do the job. As you said, they need to be made out of concrete reinforcing wire.

I just switched from BCBS to Humana, and used Red Taylor (www.redtaylor.org) as my agent (he was recommended by Dave Ramsey). Happy with the switch so far. -DV

The wreckage from the plane crash is buried at the old landfill, which is now the sports complex over on County Farm Rd. I know this for a fact, because I watched them bury it.

I should have mentioned that one of the main advantages of a 5th wheel over a gooseneck is the ease of hitching and unhitching the trailer. Because of the way the 5th wheel hitch is designed, you only have to be close for it to line-up. You have to be pretty much dead on the mark with a gooseneck, and (at least on my truck) I can't see the gooseneck ball while I'm backing to line it up. I use a magnetic marker pole to help line-up the trailer with the ball. The main disadvantage of a 5th wheel compared to a gooseneck is the size (and weight) of the hitch itself. Since my camper has powered

For those who may not know, goosneck and 5th wheel hitches are very similar in that they attach to the tow vehicle in the center of the bed. This makes the setup much more stable because the weight of the trailer is more evenly distributed. It also makes the trailer easier to backup than a pull-behind hitch. Campers come with 5th wheel hitches and utility trailers come with gooseneck hitches. Adaptors are available to convert a 5th wheel camper for use with a gooseneck hitch. The truck that I use to tow my trailers has a rail system that allows me to use either a 5th wheel or a gooseneck h

I wouldn't consider myself an expert at backing a trailer. What someone said is true... the shorter the camper (or trailer), the harder it is to back-up. I find my 33 ft 5th wheel camper and my 14 foot gooseneck dump trailer to be MUCH easier to back-up than any of the smaller pull-behind trailers that I've owned. I can't speak to how a 5th wheel is to back-up relative to a motor home, but I believe that a 5th wheel is easier to maneuver than a motor home because it has a joint in the middle (where the hitch mates with the truck). Add to that the fact that your tow vehicle is separable

I have a 5th wheel camper and a gooseneck dump trailer. It will be hard for me to ever go back to a pull-behind trailer. They pull so well that there is a danger that you'll forget you're pulling a trailer! If you don't already have the truck that you're going to use to pull it, I would highly recommend a diesel. It makes a big difference. -DV

We noticed a lot Europeans out west who had rented those smaller Class C motor homes. I would hate to try to maneuver even a 24 foot Class C into some of the places we went. The whole "popup vs. travel trailer vs. 5th wheel vs motor home" thing is an endless debate. Each type of camper will have advantages and disadvantages and different people will make different choices based on what is important to them. I needed a diesel pickup anyway for other uses, so the 5th wheel was a no-brainer for me. One of the things that we do on road trips that works out well is to get to know the people who

Motor homes are nice, but keep in mind that you'lll still have to tow some kind of vehicle behind it to use to get around once you get there. This can be a pain; you can't back up without unhooking the vehicle first. I pull my 5th wheel camper with a quad cab diesel pickup. Very roomy, easy to backup, and easy to hookup and unhook from the camper.

My family loves to RV. A couple of year ago we took an 11,000 mile trip out west in an RV. If you're interested, I kept a blog of the whole trip. After the trip was over, I wrote a summary of what worked and what didn't work... you might find some ideas in there that could you. -DV

I bought one for my wife for her birthday and she loves it. It does have a few annoyances. The 'bookshelf' user interface grows old pretty quickly. Personally I would prefer a standard Android interface. As soon as Android 4 (Cyanogenmod 9) is available for the Kindle Fire, I'll probably root it it and switch it over. She'll still be able to run the Kindle app, but it will function more like her Android phone (except with a much larger screen). Supposedly the Kindle Fire contains Bluetooth hardware that Amazon hasn't activated with their software. Hopefully Cyanogenmod 9 will wake-up the
