  1. I think if Will Avery is a smart man he will do something about the "people" who are talking for him. If someone would act like they have some respect and manners maybe then it would be worth wild to set up a debate. The problem is insults are NEVER the way to show you have class and would truly like to engage in a meaningful debate which would be good for the voters. after the OPs post I would not suggest anyone attend such a low class thing. Being I have no idea who at this time I will vote for...Will Avery by not correcting the OP just went down a notch in my book. Mr Avery if you are really serious about this I say act like a gentleman and surround yourself with the same.

  2. Ok folks, yesterday at the Rodeo there were only a few politicans. Will Avery was there and Todd Pownall was there,Also Gary was there. So the others thought they have it in the bag for November. See that is why this county is weak,All the GOP canidates think they have it made, come November you only have them to choose from. Let's make our canidates work for our vote & support, they have sure gotten lazy.

Set things in motion send Will Avery to the capitol, let's be heard loud and clear times have changed.yahoo.gif

What a crock..... I can think of MANY reason why someone would not be at a place that is know for animal abuse....hey I guess you could say those that went are more than willing to look the other way or support animal abuse so they can get votes.

I'm sure Drew doesn't have any problem whatsoever with counselors for the defense and the right to counsel in a trial.

When he references Donovan's 31 years as a defense attorney he is basically reminding voters that career defense attorney's have a mindset that is different than prosecutors, personal injury lawyers and the like.

When you realize that those who have been, say a defense attorney for 31 years, you realize that over those three decades they've read articles written to and about defense attorneys; they've attended defense attorney conventions and they've adopted 'defense attorney' attitudes.

Do you think that notion that the death penalty is too expensive to use is a common discussion at the convention of district attorney's?

    I wouldn't think so.

Which is why no one is paying you think.

Now I would think that defense attorneys have been spreading that message for decades - that the death penalty is too expensive. Their assertion of expense as a reason not to demand the death penalty got its 'poster boy' in Brian Nichols. So guess where that exact argument appears? On DD's site.

The point is that DD is a 'defense attorney' and like a tiger, is not likely to change his stripes ... and yes, I'm sure that Donovan got acquittals for some 'guilty as sin' perpetrators on whatever technicality he could muster. And if he didn't when he could, then he provided incompetent counsel.

While many prosecutors have some defense counsel experience, typically they don't have a 30+ year career.

I mean to change sides at this point is kind of like finding religion.

You know, it might be believable that DD really really showed he wanted to put criminals behind bars by doing something dramatic like closing his law office. Otherwise, the decision to switch sides at this time is kind of like a wolf deciding to be a sheep dog. I mean, if he had closed his law office because he was so disgusted with being a defense counsel and swore he would never, ever get someone off for a crime, that would be believable.

but when, like Dick, chose to keep his law office open, it is not like he swore off being a defense attorney.

I just don't think folks can move back and forth from defender to prosecutor on issues of crime and punishment that easily. Maybe I'm wrong on that but I do not think that even great attorneys can make the switch and be good.

  4. Interesting theory by the OP. Any savvy politician would try to time tax increases to their best benefit. Or at least the least harm done to them. I wouldn't think though that Austin would throw Powell and Ragsdale under the bus, especially as they were so helpful to him in getting elected (especially Powell). But that's just politics and, like Obama, you can't expect Austin not to take advantage of a previous administration or outgoing commissioners as scapegoats. Especially if they are due some blame.

What ticks me off is the timing. Vote for SPLOST or we'll have to raise taxes. SPLOST passes and guess what? They are raising taxes anyway. Tax increases are not decided over morning coffee. The projections and discussion takes some time. So it is obvious that the board knew they were going to raise taxes anyway, but still used a sacare tactic to get SPLOST to pass. All part of a plan- a hidden agenda- that was already in play. It seems as thought they lied to us. :o

But don't worry, soon the whole board may be of the same mind and all singing the same tune, so we'll be able to trust them even more. Then everything really will be decided over morning coffee.......

No suprise there and another reason NOT to vote for anyone that Austin is backing.

  5. That is silly.

Cartels are business associations that violate anti-trust.

What is going on here is the drama created by internal divisions within the Republican party, which is practically the only party in the county.

On one side you have the adults and on the other you have the zealots, bomb-throwers and reactionaries whose concept of government is so jaded, they think that since they seek to install their own 'cartel,' those who oppose them must be a 'cartel.'

Bottom line, they wouldn't know good government if it smacked them in the face.

  6. What can I say, to know Dick is to be insulted by the man, dismissed by the man, with you WFAL - threatened with lawsuit by the man.

The reason I pointed out that he never won an election before is because, in the old days, a large enough percentage of the people knew what an arrogant, insufferable ass he is and wouldn't vote for him for any reason.

Oh, and Ultramsb: As far as taking one to know one, I'm not up for election and asking the people to hire me.

PS: I thought the surrounding video, from Jefferson's 1800's race to the bombs - I actually lost it at the blue screen of death in the Canadian piece - and even George Allen's Macaca statement (that one butthole comment probably cost him the presidency) put it all in context.

Is that anything like "owning the sand box" and insulting people who pay to be memebers?

  7. My opinion is that there are scumbag attorneys who know how to work the system to their advantage and it is in your best interest to steer clear. Just one of the many "but that is not right" things that are part of life.

Amen :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

We do differ. what you call balls to the wall I call a propensity to be inconsiderate, inappropriate and constitutionally questionable in the persuit, in this case, of a good paying government job that he's not qualified for on so many levels.

If he were balls to the wall as a criminal defense attorney, he didn't make very big waves in his chosen profession - criminal defense attorney - for 30 years. And, if he were that good an attorney at his life work, he'd have a reputation more like Jimmy Berry.

Guess yu missed my point....never said I was FOR DD. As it stands I will not vote for either. But being you are going on about DD record I take it you know his win/Lose????

  9. When I look for a Lawyer the last thing I ever look for is if they are a "nice" person. I want someone who is going to kick ass. I am NOT looking for someone who is going to be buddy buddy with everyone. I want a shark.I want someone who knows what the hell they are doing and will go balls to the wall to get it.

I have seen what we have in a DA and I am not thrilled at all. I am not sure if DD is the answer but I do know that DL is not....I am getting very sick of never having a "GOOD" person to vote for. Seems a lot of people are left with voting for the lesser of two evils way too much.
