  1. Monsanto has genetically engineered a variety of sweet corn intended to be eaten by humans: (I edited the thread title so people that haven't heard about it will know.) Here's a link: February 27, 2012 GMO Corn to be sold at Walmart James Cooper Fairfield County Food Examiner We recently received a petition from Credo Action to ask Walmart not to begin selling GMO Corn. Apparently Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and General Mills have agreed not to sell GMO corn, but the largest grocer, Walmart, has not. So we looked into the issues involved to see what was going on. All
  2. Thanks for your post. I just read it and wanted to reply right away. I am going to be off line for most or maybe all of today and won't have the time to write a detailed reply now. One reason I have posted about genetically modified foods recently is as I stated in post 14, the fact that support for labeling Genetically Engineered Foods is growing. I am concerned about how far some in science intend to go; for example the other thread about gnetically engineering babies to be superhuman athletically, etc.
  3. If you or anyone wants to see more animals (including farm animals) that are loved and not eaten I wanted you to know you can order a DVD that features 18.
  4. i_have3dogs and TabbyCat the video is one of a group Evolve produced to promote a plant based diet. Here's a link where you can watch them all. You can also order a DVD: FREE DVD 18 of our most popular videos are now available on a DVD - ideal for lending to friends and family who are curious about veganism, as they educate in a gentle way. The DVD is FREE, all we ask is for a donation to cover postage and packing - £1 for UK and £2 for anywhere else in the world. 5. You posted a video made by Evolve. They support a plant based diet: Who We Are EVOLVE! is a non-profit organisation dedicated to embracing and expanding the vision of animal liberation through promotion of lifestyle changes that in turn benefit human health and the environment, as well as the lives of millions of exploited animals worldwide. Our campaigns focus on educating the public about the many benefits of a plant-based diet and vegan lifestyle, with the aim of stimulating a more responsible attitude towards our planet. Ultimately we are seeking an advancement of ethics thro
  6. TabbyCat, I noticed you typed "PERFECT" in all caps in response to the post with the video. The video shows companion animals and pigs, cows, etc. being loved. It was made by a group that supports loving animals and not eating them. (You show the opposite in the poster you posted.) Do you know who made that video? The animals were rescued. Here's their website with a link to "Take the Vegan Pledge." http://evolvecampaigns.org.uk/evolve/pledge.aspx
  7. It is sad that some members continue to make posts about how they see cruelty to chickens as being desireable. I also learned from this thread that asking about a church that prays for the sick will result in being labeled by some. (For anyone new; I support humane treatment of farm animals and some members here have elected to post comments desiring abuse of the animals.)
  8. I noticed you typed KNOWLEDGE in all caps. I ignored your previous post even though it was obvious you know nothing about the publication that published the article. Mother Earth News is not a vegan publication. It seems that you have very hard feelings towards vegans that cloud your perceptions. (I think it's great that some people are vegan, but at this point I am not.) You may be open minded in some areas but when it comes to many subjects you are not. And why would you post anything about abusing chickens in this thread---unless you wanted to be cruel to me personally? I have done
  9. Is it a place that sells plants? What is the name?
  10. Here's a thread with some info: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/285874-master-gardeners-plant-sale/page__p__3615016__hl__%2Bmaster+%2Bgardeners__fromsearch__1#entry3615016
  11. Some terms of endearment are used in not so endearing ways on p.com.
  12. Also, I wonder about the wealth factor and how it could cause even more division in society. Will children grow up thinking they could have had a better life if there parents had been able to buy better genes?
  13. From what I understand the research began with an interest in improving health, but some are interested in using it for what is referred to as designer children with super genes that go beyond being healthy.
  14. The point is that it is a complex area. In the future if a person can genetically engineer their children how superhuman will they choose them to be? If they want super althletic children then will they also decide to add genes for: Super IQ Super Business Abilities Super Model Looks Super Singer And Etc., Etc.
  15. When I came across some info suggesting using jaguar genes in the future to genetically engineer children to be super fast runners I decided to see what was going on. This is from the ESPN website: Tuesday, June 3 Morphing the human body By Tom Farrey ESPN.com At a recent New York Knicks practice, Latrell Sprewell chewed on the delicious question of whether, if he had the opportunity, he would allow himself to be cloned. After all, some experts believe a carbon copy of a human being will be made by the end of the decade. The NBA's resident bad boy flashed a mischievous smi
  16. When I read this I remembered this thread started by LGM a couple of weeks ago: Bored Who Do You Call? It illustrates how close many family members remain through multiple generations: http://paulding.com/forum/index.php/topic/286010-bored/page__p__3616468__hl__bored__fromsearch__1#entry3616468
  17. Where does this take place? Your house, her house, or other places? Also, how many other people does she have to talk to? All of that might contribute to ideas for a solution.
  18. It was a good article that supports the overlooked and underdeveloped resources I mentioned earlier in the thread.
  19. Generations have enjoyed Walt Disney's art. Something doesn't have fit within traditional boundaries to be of value.
  20. The support for labeling Genetically Engineered Foods is growing: Much of the World Already Requires Labeling of Genetically Engineered Foods 50 countries with over 40% of the world’s population already label genetically engineered foods, including the entire European Union. Even China labels genetically engineered foods.... http://www.labelgmos.org/the_science_genetically_modified_foods_gmo
  21. I don't believe he was trying to deceive anyone. I never bought any of his work but others say it brought them enjoyment. You say you're a art lover and a modest collector. Surely you don't expect for everyone to like all of the same pieces or artists.
  22. I think it is interesting that so many did like his work. Also, he or someone associated with him were able to market it well. I don't remember the figures but many millions in sales.
  23. Here's some info from the Sierra Club's website on feeding the hungry around the world: Feeding the world's hungry? ... but agricultural applications of GE are not. Yet the argument is being made by the biotech industry that if the genetic engineering of farm crops is not allowed to proceed, the poor people of the world will starve. In fact there is more than enough food produced by conventional agriculture, without genetic engineering, to feed all of the world's people. One cause of hunger is the ineffective distribution of food. Genetic engineering may actually lead to more foo
