  1. How about

Ariana/Arianna means precious silver in Welsh. (we took out the second n, but you could always put it back or use a y instead of the i) we pronounce it Air-ee-ana, I've also heard it as ah-ree-ana

Jeanine I've had that name for more years than I care to mention and I have never met another with the same name. I've seen it in books or heard it on TV, but never met one in person. pronounced Ja-nee-n not jeannie.

My mom's name is Vida, it is a form of David and means Life...

If you like older names... one grandma was Estella... means star...

I've got a neice named Wesley - means west meadow

  2. Sorry, you are right. Thanks for catching that!!!

Its Anderson Farm Road, not Macedonia Road. Correct directions:

    Directions from Paulding:

    take Highway 120 east

    turn right onto Barrett Parkway

turn right onto Powder Springs Road

turn left at next light, onto Anderson Farm Road

turn right at the stop sign onto Ewing Road

They are on the right, First driveway past the bridge.

  3. I always called those of us born between 1958 - 1964 (more or less) the lost generation.

We don't really fit into the baby boom or the gen X descriptions! <_<

I just found a Wikipedia site apparently they are semi offically calling these years the "Generation Jones" generation. :ninja:

    Generation Jones

  4. I found their web site:

    Patak's European Meats

We found this place in 1995. I rarely buy meat anyplace else. Everything is so good.

I think I gain about 5 pounds just walking in the door, it always smells so good!

If you go during any holiday season, make sure you have plenty of time, they are always crowded!!!!

Actually, I usually make sure I have plenty of time whenever I go. They are usually very crowded!

  5. This year we will have Christmas dinner on Christmas Day with his family and on Thursday or Friday after Christmas with my family.

It always depends on when the families are getting together... We usually have one dinner on Christmas Day and one dinner some other time during Christmas week.

This year we had two Thanksgiving dinners. One with his family on Turkey day and one with my family the following Saturday.

For my husband and I , what day we get with family for the Christmas (or Thanksgiving) holiday isn't that important. What is important is that we get together with family and friends sometime during the season!!!! The children actually seem to like it this way, they get to open presents on more than one day!

  6. We were in the Hiram Wal-mart this afternoon. There was no one at the picture kiosks. Most of the time that we are at the electronic department, no one is at the kiosks. I can't even remember the last time I saw someone at those kiosks.

You should be proud of yourself, you did something that a lot of people would have given up on.

And don't mind those people in line behind you. If they were less "technically challenged" than you, they'd have their own photo quality printer and wouldn't be in that line!!!! :o :o

I hope your mom loves the calendar!!!!! :D :D

  7. I sold a little tykes playset. It was one of those big, multi-color things, 2 slides, 8 panel and a tunnel. I had several inquiries and it took about 3 weeks, but I got it sold. I put in the ad that it was cash only and pick up only. No way I was going to try and ship that thing!!!!!

  8. I haven't seen the commercials, but I have read several articles about this project.

As far as I can tell it is legit, but that doesn't really mean a whole lot!!!! They have several big name sponsors. They also have a web site....

They will send them to individual US addresses, you get one, some 3rd world child will get one. I wonder if you can specify which country to send the donated one to. The last news article I read, listed a few of the countries that wanted to participate. The government of the 3rd world country has to agree to certain conditions before they can qualify to participate in the program.

These computers were designed with the needs of 3rd world children in mind. They have screens that you can see in sunlight, because most 3rd world classes are taught outside (according to the web-site). They also have a hand crank or some power source like that. They will plug in, but a lot of places don't have electricity, so they made them so they can go anywhere.

They also are supposed to be able to handle almost anything a child can do to them. I haven't seen anything more on that, like how they tested them...

Found it... here is the web site I hope I get the link correct....Haven't done it before...

    One laptop per child

    edited to add...

The program was an individual's brainstorm... He wanted to make a $100.00 laptop, that could be used in 3rd world countries.

He formed a foundation and got several companies to join in, I think it runs on an AMD processor, they are suppling the processors for their cost or maybe less. They went with LINUX as the operating system, because it is free, very robust, and doesn't crash or lock up all the time.

  9. I did call them, I had no idea what debt they were trying to collect, that's how they got my current phone number, stupid me. That is also how I know that this is from 1985. Even if I had not paid it, they can not legally collect any money. The limit is 7 years from the last date of activity, which they told me was in 1985! It's a scam, most people don't know that they while morally obligated to pay what they owe, they are not legally obligated to pay after 7 years. Some unscrupulus collection agencies buy old debts and then try to collect on them. They are even worse at trying to get the money than when the debt is legit!

This has been going on for over a year, I figured if I didn't anwer the phone they would give up, especially after I sent them a cease and desist letter, certified with return reciept (which I have), but they are not giving up! Stupid them!!!!

But now I am looking for some legal help to get them to stop.

  10. Hi all,

I need some help with this. I am really mad. These people contacted me last year about a debt from 1985, that was paid off. They say that I did not pay and they will not leave me alone. I have mailed them stateing that it is invalid, that it was paid (no I don't have proof, it been over 20 years!!!!) and the statute of limitations has passed so they are no longer legally able to collect the debt, even if I hadn't already paid it off. All to no avail, they are still sending me letters and calling!

They have not put anything on my credit report, I checked.

But I am sick and tired of this. I want a lawyer who can sue their butts off!!!!!! or at least make them stop!

I called Clark Howard when I got the first letter, that's how I know about the statute of limitations.

  11. Just a thought, some companies don't pay overtime on the same check as they pay regular time. Some pay the overtime on the paycheck following the pay period it was earned in. Could his company be doing this? Holding the overtime pay by one (or more) pay periods? If that is NOT their policy and it is a consistant problem, it's probably time to try and find another job. If they can't get the paychecks out on time and right, it might mean that they are having cash flow problems...

  12. I got my reindeer at Amazon.com. Best price I could find on-line for the reindeer.

I also did a google search for webkinz and pulled up a bunch of sites. Some are better prices than others. I've bought all 16 of ours on-line, some from Amazon.com, most are from some of the other web sites that google brought up. I got the ones from amazon in about 3 days, with the supper saver shipping option.

Good luck. I think they are going to be one of the hottest selling Christmas toys this year!!!!

I'll also be watching here for the local store recomendations...

  13. Interesting. Maybe I can find out more about the mines. I haven't heard about anything like that recently. The older folks who would know are becoming fewer and fewer, but there might be a few left...

I know my husband tried to follow the creek upstream a few weeks ago, but he didn't get very far. The way everything is being built up around here, the developers put in pipes and reroute the creeks, so we may not be able to trace our creek back to the mine anymore. And if it wasn't worth the effort to get the gold, they may have just paved it over and put up a shopping center!!!

  14. Haven't heard of any that are open.

I know the old timers around here call the creek that is runs through our property Gold Mine creek. I don't know if that is the "official" name for the creek, or if it even has a real name. I do know that the mine was closed a long time ago. There is still gold in the creek. Not that much, but I know about 15 years ago a guy that lived around here used to pan for gold and get enough to buy his cigarettes and beer.

There are several sub-divisions upstream on the creek, so the mine may be under a house by now!

  15. I've got a few about pennys...

If you pick one up and it is tails up, you will have bad luck.

If you pick one up and it is heads up, you will have good luck.

If you drop a penny and it lands tails up, leave it, you will lose your bad luck... the person who picks it up will get your bad luck.

If you drop a penny and it lands tails up, pick it up or else you will loose your good luck when someone else picks it up...

I've heard the one about the hooting owl meaning a person close to you will die. So far I've lived in this house for 9 years, have heard lots of owls hooting in those 9 years and no deaths in the family!

Uh, oh, better cross my fingers so that I don't jinx myself :o

  16. I was 37 and 39 when I had mine. I was most definatly not ready to have children when I was in my 20's. I had "raised" my brothers and sister after my parents divorce and I didn't want to have anything to do with any more children at that time. Plus I didn't meet my husband until I was 35. As they say, everything happens for a reason... (Oh, and don't tell anyone, nobody thinks we are in our 40's!)

  17. If you have kids, and they will co-operate, I made t-shirts for the grandma's one year.

We made hand/foot print angels and reindeer. Use the hands for wings and antlers, and 1 foot print for the angel/deer body. The children were about 3/4 years old, so both fit on one shirt. The grandma's loved them. After they made their creaturs, I added "snow" and trees to the make a scene for the angel or reindeer. I thought about making footprint snowmen, but I wanted to use their hands too. I wrote the children's first name under their creature and "Christmas 200?" on the shirt. (I forgot which year it was, might be time to do it again!!!!!)

The T-shirts were like $5.00 each at Sam's club and you only need a few colors of fabric paint. I used white for the angel's body, gold for the wings and halo. Painted a happy face on them. Then used the white for snow and green and brown for the trees. For the reindeer, I used white for snow, brown and green for trees. Brown for the deer's body and black for the antlers. (And a small bit of red, for the nose, one child insisted!!!) The children loved making them too... You could also do these on sweatshirts, instead of t-shirts...

If you do decide to do this project, don't use those inexspensive white t-shirts that come in a package of 3...You need a good heavy t-shirt. The paint tends to be too much for the lighter weight t-shirts.

  18. Oooh, I don't know if I should read any more or not. I'm going to have mine done next week. Dr. Corwin at Marietta Eye Clinic will be doing my surgery. I wasn't nervous until I read this post (yea, right, I just wouldn't let myself think about it before!!!) It's one of those "I can't wait to see without my glasses, but what if?" types of excitedness...

I've been following the procedure since it was discoverd in the 1980's, before they had laser's. I have wanted to do this for years, but no insurance company will cover it! Now FInally I have the money available and I decided I was not willing to wait anylonger!

Oh, My Gosh, I won't know how to behave without my glasses!

I know I'll still be pushing my glasses back up my nose for weeks if not months after next Friday!

  19. Don't know if you would be interested or not...

There is a Native American Festival in Euharlee this weekend. Its $3.00 for parking and free admission. It is at Frankie Harris Park. Gates open from 10:00am to 6:00pm Sat and Sun. It's a small festival so it won't take all day. There is also a covered bridge that is usually open to the public that you can walk across and explore. You can bring camp chairs or lawn chairs to sit in and watch the dancing.

    Directions are from Atlanta...

Take I-75 to exit 288 (Main street carersville, Highway 113)

Follow Highway 113 through Carterville to Euharlee Road (approx 6 miles at Ladds Farm Supply). Turn right onto Euharlee Road. Go approx 8 miles to Covered Bridge Road. Turn left and go 1/2 mile.

We usually go up Highway 61 to Cartersville, but I don't know the rest of the directions from there. I think 61 runs into 113, but I am not sure. My husband said to follow 61 up past the airport, and turn onto the main road that is just after the airport, this will take you to Euharlee road. We only go that way once or twice a year, so I'm not positive about these directions. Their are signs, but they are small and only on 113 just before the turn onto Euharlee Road.

The contact information I have is for Joey Pierce 404-377-4950 and Sam Hinson 770-546-7191

  20. I usually tell them that I just lost my job and if they could loan me the money I'll get whatever they are selling.

That usually shuts them up quick!!!!!!!!!!!

Otherwise, If I don't feel like wasting my time, as soon as they start their speil, I interupt them by saying: "I'm not interested, do not call back, goodbye" and hang up. I don't give them a chance to continue. Then I check the caller ID, if they call back I don't answer........

  21. We've got squirrel problems too. But I think hubby has given up!!!!

One of our squirrels has become civilized....

We have a plastic container that we keep chicken feed in, one of those stackable heavy duty dog/cat food holders.

Well, the squirrels chewed a whole through the back, bottom corner of the first one. :( :o

Hubby bought a second one. Squirrels chewed the door off of that one. <_<

Hubby put the door from the first one on the second one. :glare:

Now the squirrel has figured out how to open the door. And just goes in to get his food.

The reason I said the squirrel is civilized, when it leave the food bin, it closes the door with it's tail!!!! :o

I didn't believe hubby, right, the squirrel closes the door! Then yesterday, I saw the squirrel close the door! :D :D

Boy to I owe hubby an appology!!!!

  22. I'm allergic to a lot of the perfumes. I can't wear any and I have to be carefull about the DO and even shampoo/soap. Too strong a scent and I have a reaction. I usually start sneezing within a few seconds if someone has too much on (and that's just the preliminary reaction). Just gotta love the looks I get from people who have too much perfume/aftershave etc on when I start sneezing! At least then I can say something about how strong their stink, I mean scent is!!!

At least nowadays, most people don't use a lot of scent.

I had read the news on the women who is sueing because of another lady who was wearing too much perfume. That lady actually came into the office, plugged in one of those air freshners, sprayed air freshner and wore too much perfume. I'd have a fit if some one did that!!! The first lady went home sick within a couple of hours. Some people just don't think!
