  1. The sign at the site say Ace Hardware. Just what we need...NOT... I'd like to see a Popeye's or other, child friendly, eating place. Someplace that actually has good food. Definatly not another sports bar!

Don't like Beef O'Brady's. The food is not good enough for me to sit through another dumb athlete making stupid comments to the only, slightly smarter TV sports reporter!!!!!!!!!! Don't belive me that sports reporters aren't very smart, listen to the questions they ask!!! Reporter: After this big win, what are you going to do next? Athlete: Uh, uhhhh, ya 'no, like, get ready for the, uh, umm, like, the next game, ya 'no? Reporter: what do you think contributed to the win? Athlete: Uh, ya 'no, like, ME, ya 'no, like, I'm the best, ya 'no, the best playa ev'r, ya 'no? Uhhhh, oh, like, ya 'no, I mean teamwork, yea, that's right, ya 'no, we won because, ya 'no, we did that, umm, teamwork, umm, umm stuff.... or if they didn't win - reporter: why do you think you lost? Athlete: uh, ya 'no, like we didn't, ya 'no, do good, like, ya 'no, we didn't want, ya 'no, it, umm, as much as the, uh, ya 'no, the umm, other team, ya 'no?

One time when we were in Johnnie's, they changed the channel to some baseball game. I asked them to change the channel BACK to the previous program. I don't care if the baseball game just started, unless it is an emergency, there is absolutly no reason to change the channel when a patron of your establiment is watching what is currently on the TV! And no, there were not a bunch of other patrons in the resturant. At the time, we were the only ones watching that particular TV and I did not ask them to change the other TV's. Which is why we don't go to places like that very often...

  2. My children go to Pil Sung Do. My kids love it. We as parents love it. Master Larry Key and Linda Key love kids, love teaching them and it shows.

They do not have a contract, you can go to as many lessons as you want (they recommend at least 2 or 3 a week). They might also do some introductory sessions...you'd have to check with them for more information on that.

For a 7 year old, they have classes Mon - Thurs and Saturday. There are 2 evening classes each week day. Sometimes my kids go to the 6pm class, sometimes they go to the 6:45 class, sometimes they go to both classes.

When school starts in August my kids will go the afterschool program. They really enjoy the afterschool program and they were upset when there was not a summer program for younger children and they had to go to a regular day care for the summer!

    Their web site is: http://www.pilsungdo.com/

I would suggest that you go to both of the schools that have been suggested and talk to the instructors and watch a couple of classes. Get a feel for the school...

Also, there was another discussion on here about a simular question... you might want to see if you can find that thread. I know that Pil Sung Do and Master Key was recommended in that thread too. I don't know how to find the thread and attach it, other wise I would...

  3. Makes me glad we can't get regular TV broadcasts or Cable and we refuse to get Satellite. We live in a small valley and don't get any TV reception, and the cable company wanted $1500.00 to bring the cable to our house...NOT gonna happen!! Then we both had fights with the Satellite companies  , so we canceled that service.

Now we watch DVD's and the children think commercials are only advertisements for other movies!!!  Actually, we ocasionally watch TV at friends or relatives, so they do know what a commercial is...Mostly they think they are an anoyance and ask us to fast forward past the commercials!

I do hear commercials on the radio, but they are usually very easy to tune out or to change the channel!!!!

We may need to think about getting satallite TV again, just so we can teach our children how to ignore the commercials....

  4. Sheri's husband found the owners yesterday morning. When her hubby told him that they had the dog, the man reached in the car and pullled out his collar and tags. He told them to keep him, they had just moved here and had too many dogs! Sheri called and spoke with the wife, she gave over all vet info and told about Pete's likes and dislikes and said have a nice life, they didn't want him! He is such a good dog, I can't believe they didn't want him

Just a thought, if they just took the collar and tags off and let him go and they said that they had too many dogs, did she ask if they had any more dogs that they wanted to get rid of? If they did it to one dog, they might do it to any more that they want to get rid of! I'd hate to see that happen to another dog, the next one might not be so lucky. I'm not saying that is what they did, but from that description, that is what it sounds like.

  5. Got a video camera? Get the proof, video of them on the bikes, on the street. Get full face pictures if possible. Get them driving back to their house (if you know which one(s) it is!) Make copies. Then take it to the SO or whoever and ask them to do something about the problem! Sometimes it works, sometimes not... Good luck getting those idiots off the streets!!!

  6. I'm suprised no one has posted this yet! Or did I miss it?

They are looking for "Bad" dogs to film a TV show about...

Since there have been so many people looking for help, I thought maybe a few of them could become famous and get some help! They are not saying who the trainer will be...

I hope this link works, but just in case, I copied the who article...

Unruly dogs in Atlanta area sought for TV show

    By SANDRA ECKSTEIN

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

    Published on: 06/13/08

Calling all out-of-control dogs: TV wants you. Well, you and your hapless owners.

Ricochet Television, the outfit that brings you Jo Frost as "Supernanny," is filming a series starring a dog trainer who will try to install peace into unpeaceful households, much the same way Frost does for parents.

And it's shooting part of the new show in the Atlanta area.

"We're looking for people who have tried everything under the sun and this is their last resort," said casting producer Lisa Corsiglia. "We also want cases where the dog is causing problems in the family. We're looking for anyone whose lifestyle has really been compromised by their dog."

If this sounds like your situation, go to the park at Atlantic Station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to audition. Producers will go over applications and film some dogs.

"It's a huge opportunity for people who are at their wits' end to have an internationally known dog trainer help them," said casting director Johnnie Raines.

Company officials can't yet publicly identify the trainer. And they won't say where the show will run, beyond that it's being shot for an animal-focused cable network.

Corsiglia said 10 homes each in the Atlanta area and Los Angeles will be chosen; filming would start in July.

Pet owners can fill out the application ahead of time, or do it at the fair. And pets don't have to be present Saturday. It's fine to bring photos or a video — and your horror stories, Raines said.

  7. If you child is being bullied, get him/her to the nearest GOOD martial arts center.

They will teach your child confidence and how to deal with a bully. A GOOD center will also teach them to use what they know ONLY as a last resort and only when all else fails. A side benefit, some also teach the children how to get away from or stop an adult who intends to harm them.

We have ours at a local center, they have only been going since March, but I have already seen some changes, for the better in their behavior. I wish we had started them earlier!!!!

Oh, the poll... I watch as best I can (I have 2 and they rarely play together) and I will referee and don't let me catch your child intentionally hurting my child!!!!

  8. Some usefull tips... When you start eating smaller portions, use a salad plate instead of a big dinner plate for your food. You will fool yourself into thinking the portions are bigger. Use a small fork instead of the large fork, you can't put as much food on it, so you eat slower. Put your fork down and let go of it between every bite, again so you eat slower... Drink water with every meal, instead of sugary drinks. Stay as far away from diet sodas as you can, they make you hungry. If you drink coffee, learn to drink it black. Same with tea, learn to drink it without sugar. If you are craving a food, have a very small portion, before it turns into a monster craving! Don't think of food as the "enemy", make it your friend. Instead of lettuce for a salad, use a spring mix. Regular lettuce has absolutly no nutrional value (or taste!!!!!) You won't need as much salad dressing if you like the taste of the greens! Try to use whole grain foods instead of "white" foods, for example use brown rice instead of white rice, eat whole wheat or multi-grain bread instead of white bread (but check the ingredients, some breads use molassas to sweeten and darken the bread!) Eat a handfull of nuts every day. Be carefull of which fruits you eat, some are higher in calories than others. Don't deprive yourself, that leads to binge eating, if you can't live without your chocolate bar, then get some snack baggies, break the bar up into several servings and eat only part of the bar...If you have a bar everyday at work, start by breaking it in half, eat 1/2 on two days. Then the next week, break it into 3 or 4 pieces...next week break it into 5 pieces... you still get your chocolate (or what ever your special treat is) but you are controlling it...

Also, get a support group, not a nag group... Some people have suggested weight watchers or an online site... any group of people who are willing to help you and offer helpfull suggestions is what you need. If you are going to a family gathering or a party and you know that you will have trouble eating right, eat a small meal before you go, you don't have to show up hungry.

Do not weigh yourself every day. That will drive you nuts, decide on what 1 day and the time that you will weigh yourself and stay away from the scale the other 6 days!

And like most of the other posters have said, get up and walk!

Now, if I could just follow my own suggestions!!!!

  9. I wiln't say what I want to name my daughter if I ever have one. It was always, Ava Marie but these days EVERYBODY seems to name their kid Ava.

After we named our daughter, we found out that Ariana (Alternate spelling: Arianna) was a form a Ariadne, which means "Holy" in Greek and Latin. Our daughter's middle name is Marie. So we unintentionally named her Holy Mary! The meaning for Ariana that I had origianlly found is Welsh for Silver. I've also discovered that they have the same name in Afghanistan, but I have been unable to find the meaning. There was an Airline named: Ariana Afghan Airlines (or something similar)... Go figure. I still love her name! I just love the way it sounds...Ariana Marie...

Aidan means hearth fire in Gaelic. Asher is Biblicle and means happy. So we name our son Fire Happy (which, thank goodness he is not!) Actually, hearth fire is the happy, warm, welcoming fire that all homes used to be heated by...

If I ever had another daughter and she was born near Christmas I would like to name her Aria Noel (Christmas Song)

My mother's name is Vida, pronounced VEE-da. She says it is Scottish and means life. It is also a femine form of the name David.

  10. Rules are rules. She agreed to be there and work and she knew in advance what the consequences of missing her turn to work would be. If she doesn't like the rules, then she should find a team with rules she likes! We don't know if she tried to get a replacement or not. If she did, then she should understand why they have this rule. If she couldn't get someone to cover for her, how was the coach going to do it at the last minute? If the coach has to work the concession stand because a parent can't be bothered to work their shift, how is the team supposed to be able to play? The coach needs to be there coaching. Also, how did she get her son to the game if she couldn't be there? Whoever took him to the game should have worked the concession stand or else the boy shouldn't have even been at the game!

I understand completely why the team was set up this way. There are some parents out there who will do absolutly nothing, no matter how many times they are asked or what the consequences are unless it directly affects their child. It gets their attention and every one else's when it affects their child. I hate to see a child punished for something like this, but you can bet he won't let his mom do this again!!!! And maybe, just maybe, when this boy has children of his own, he will remember and he won't be the idiot his mom was!!!!!!!!!!!

Just my 2cents. And yes, I volunteer in the organizations both of my children participate in!!!!

  11. God, I am so glad I moved out of a subdivision and into a house on a very rural road!!!!!

I hated the self-rightous, self-centered yard nazis that lived in the subdivision.

We now live on a one lane road. The neighbors have some very heavy equipment that they keep parked on their property. I have absolutly no problem with this. They keep the equipment up and in working condition.

Some people who bought in the subdivisions that border the property called and complained, but since the equipment is on private property and not in a subdivision with covenants there is nothing that they or the county can do. The equipment was there before they moved in. It's still there.

  12. You are supposed to tip at Sonic's? I never have. Never thought I should. I also don't tip when I walk up to a counter and place an order. We need to do like they do in Europe (oh, my gosh, I don't believe I just said that!!!!) and not tip. They don't tip at resturants.

I don't mind the tip jars, I just ignore them. Of course, since I now have to use reading glasses, I can't see the writing if I'm not wearing the glasses!!!!

  13. I'll second the Tea Tree Oil. My hubby had poison ivy or oak really bad and he used that. He was amazed at how fast it dried it up the rash! He had the blisters too, and they were gone in like 2 days or less. I'd get some of that soap from Scarlett and see how it works. And do the epsom salt bath...the salt will help with the itching and also dry it up.

For the Burt's Bee's stuff, try the vitamin shop next to Target (its on the left when you face Target). They carry a lot of the Burt's Bees product line. They will also have some other suggestions on how to treat poison ivy.

  14. A yard sale happens once or twice a year. A business is a sale every weekend for a month or more...

It sounds like they are running a flea market and advertising it as a yard sale so that they don't have to pay the business license fee or the taxes!

Check them out for a few weekends, if they always have "new" stuff every weekend, or if they sell an item and have the same item back for sale the next weekend, or if they have 10 copies of the latest Wii game (or anything else in quantity), they are not having a yard sale, they are having a flee market.

If you have a video camera, take some film of the "yard sale" on several days, over a couple of weekends. Also document everything you can think of. Get a notebook and note the opening time, closing time, days of operation, number of cars in an hour... anything you can think of connected to the "yard sale". Have the other neigbors do the same thing. The more stuff you have documented, the better your chances of getting them shut down.

If you can't spend all that time to do the documentation and zoning doesn't get them to stop, get their names and contact the IRS. They will investigate!

  15. Sometimes and ONLY for family and friends. I don't call back numbers I don't know.

If it is family and it is important, gotta know ASAP kind of call they will leave a message and I'll call back right away.

If it is not an important call, and they just had time to chat, I'll call when I get a chance, which is sometimes the next day or even several days later.

We don't even rush to pick up the phone anymore. If it's important, they will leave a message, if it's not, with caller id I know they have called and I can call them back when I have the time!

I always check caller id when I am home before answering. We have a fax on our home phone line for hubby's business. Several times a week he will get a fax, which I won't answer. I hate picking up the phone and hearing that annoying fax tone!!!!

  16. If you get the right bustier(sp), even a B cup can look, well WOW. And I should know, I don't normally have much to flaunt! But with the right costume, even I get double takes from the guys!

We go every year. The best thing to do, is check the schedule, decide what shows you want to see and plan your day. See at least one of the Jousts. Don't try to see or do everything in one day. You won't be able to. We've been going for over 10 years and we still haven't seen all the shows!!!!

Hopefully it won't snow this year. We go to opening weekend every year and last year we saw snow flurries!!!! Boy was it cold, but we sure had fun!!

  17. That's why hubby kept some of those wonderful old full flush toilets after he did some renovation work for some other people a few years ago. I think he still has one more out in the barn!!!! Of course with the drought, we follow the "If it's yellow, let it mellow...." rule...

I never understood why anyone would want a "low-flow" toilet, you always have to flush twice or thrice or hold the handle and let it "run", which defeats the "low-flow" idea. I also hate going to some of my families houses because of those stupid toilets. You'd think that they would learn to leave a plunger in each of the bathrooms!!!! It's less embarrising to take care of the problem yourself than to have to ask "where do you keep the plunger?"

  18. I read an artical a couple of months ago about a village in India where a fertillaty clinic had been set up. Basically, if a couple couldn't have children and had already tried every thing else, the would set you up with a woman who would be a surrogate mother for you. A few of the women do it to help others, but most of them do it for the money. The clinic has been in business for about 5 years and they had several women who had been surrogates 2-3 times. The women are taken care of, fed, housed, medical attention and then sent home after the birth, with a portion of the fees. I think they said that the clinic charged between $20,000 and $50,000 per attempt. The surrogate would get between $1,500 and $5,000 for carrying the baby to full term, more money than most of these women would normally see in years!!!!

The article did talk about how more clinics were being set up in the smaller villages and towns and that some people were worried that it was becoming "just about the money" type of business. The clinic that the report visited was one of the first one's to do this, and they said that they started it because they wanted to help couples who could not conceive a child on their own. The majority of clinics clients are couples from Europe, mostly British. Because the culture is so different in India, they don't have any problem with the surrogate mother trying to claim the child.

The medical business is becoming a big business in India. I think the article was on the FoxNews web site, in the health news section. If I have time tomorrow, I'll see if I can find a link.

  19. I have to agree, this is sad, but why do you say it was preventable? How do you know that she would still be alive if she had gotten treatment? Yes, there are treatments for JV Diabetes, but children still die while recieving those treatments. We just don't hear about them. Yes, most likely she would be alive. But the treatment is not 100% successful. So how can you know, without a doubt that she would still be alive?

Personally, I'll take my child in to find out what is wrong and to discus treatment options. But I will also look for other answers. I know that modern medical science does not and will not have all the answers. And until the medical community can tell us that they have a 100% cure rate, with no adverse side effects, how can you say that the parents were so wrong? We don't know, we can't know, the answer to that question.

  20. Walk the trail at Mt. Tabor Park. We did it on Monday with my son's Cub Scout den. If you take the side trail it winds down by a creek and through the woods. It's not a long walk and the boys had fun looking for animal tracks, animal homes and sticks to use as walking sticks! We saw deer and some sort of predator track, don't know if it was a coyote, fox, raccoon or some other animal...

When the weather is nice, have the children help plan, make and pack a picnik and take it to a local park. If the weather is not nice, have the picnik in your front room or any room that you don't normally eat in...

Find a rural road to walk and pick up pine cones, leaves, flowers etc. Our road is still very rural, so we don't have to go very far to get any of these things. When you get home, make something out of the things you picked up... Just google "pine cone crafts", I'm sure you will find something that you could do with them. Make leaf or flower rubbings (put leaf under paper, rub paper with crayon). Use the leaves and flowers to make a collage...

If you are not just looking for free or cheap stuff. You might want to try the Renaisance Festival, it starts April 12th, and is every weekend until June 1. We always bring our own snacks and water, and have a good breakfast before we get to the festival, that way we don't have to buy as much food or drinks. Opening weekend is always 2 for 1 adult admission. We always go opening weekend, cause its 2for1 and it tends to be cooler... Even if you don't like to shop, the shows are always fun to watch!

Mother's day weekend is the Annual Mother's Day PowWow in Canton. They have native dancers, live animals, demonstrations, native crafts and food. Watch out, they have some very beautiful jewelry!!! I just checked, they don't have the information up yet...but here is the web site... They also list a few other festivals that this group sponsors.
