  1. A unified BOC working together with the IBA, Chamber, and a viable economic developmennt group can make things happen.

When questioned as to why we have not lobbied for workable impact fees 3-4 years ago, Bill Heath, and some of the others replied "Because the Paulding BOC has told the representatives they don't want impact fees". Pretty clear cut.

Has our BOC lobbied for our legislators to amend the requirements for the various tier system ratings now in force ? Not until Austin and company came in.

Yes, a unified BOC could get one hell of a lot accomplished. Just look at what Jerry and company got accomplished for the ROBBER BARON MEGA DEVELOPERS! They got them reduced impact fees, lax banking laws, zoning for whatever they wanted, and they allowed them to run rampant and suck the live out of Paulding in their obscene profits. The developer who did Palisades refused to consider a $1.5 Million dollar profit to flip the property for industrial use. Instead he moved forward, with the BOC blessings from Jerry Shearin for 500+ houses. They have built 85. The rest of the land is now basically a weed infested wasteland.

What could a progressive BOC trying to bring industry to Paulding could have done ?

King Jerry and his group, including Beverly Cochran, Paulette Rakestraw, Tony Crowe and his GOP group leaders [Virginia and Daryl Galloway, Tom Melanese- Reagan Republican, Chris Collins-Ithy/Praise Thee, et al] are hard at work to try to keep their foot in the door.

    DON"T LET THEM!!!

Vote the old group out and give David Austin and his guys a chance to make some progressive things happen. Their hands have been tied by Kirby, Powell and Ragsdale for the past 18 months, and this is proven by their vote to not allow David to dismiss Beverly Cochran from her $65,000 a year secretary job. Tell me plain and simple, if you were elected to a position such as the commission chairman, would you want to be REQUIRED to keep your opponent's assistant as your assistant ?

Tony Crowe was not a part of the King Jerry group. He was asked to run for commisioner when king jerry was in charge, he didn't run, because he opposed a lot of the things that king jerry was doing. The reason he is running for Post 4 commisioner now is because he is as tired of the crap king jerry and his buddies did as most of the rest of us are and he wants to help get the county back on track. He doesn't like what Jerry did with the courthouse, he doesn't like that the airport was built even after the voters rejected it. But now that those things are done, he wants to make sure that they are used to help attract new business to the county.

Tony still has and continues to work his sheetrock business. It is a family business. As far as I know, he has not knowingly hired illegals to work for him. And even if he did hire some mexicans, not all of them are here illegally, so, how do you know that they were illegal?

If Tony was working closely with the builders/developers he would have a much bigger business than he has, even at the height of the building boom, he never had a more than a couple of crews working for him. He went to work for the county because he needed the stable income, not because he was making lots of money by working for the developers.

And I know for a fact that he blocked a local developer that wanted to do us wrong. He did it before we even knew that the developer was trying to get the county to condem our property, and he didn't tell us about it, other neighbors found out and told us. He attended every hearing and defended ALL of his neighbors against the developers. He blocked the developer a second time after the county wouldn't condem our property, when the developer wanted to make our road a dead end street, without improving the road... our road is a 1 lane road with deep ditches and a bridge that floods out with every heavy rain. Several times every year we have to go the long way around because some vehicle went into the ditch and it takes hours to clear or the water rises up over the bridge. I for one am not going to risk my children's safety by trying to drive through rushing water on the bridge. The bridge is actually 2 big pipes with gravel and tar poured over them. It's not even a real bridge... It used to be wide enough for 2 vehicles to pass each other on the bridge, but after the rain and flooding last year, it is only wide enough for 1 vehicle... If the road had been dead-ended, we would be stuck, with no way out when the water rose over the road or the road is blocked, not a good thing if there is an emergency. Those are two instances that I personally know about. Do you really think that the builders will support someone who has several times thwarted what they wanted to do?

If you want to see who the builders are supporting, maybe you should take a real hard look at the guy who has the money to send out 8 1/2" x 11" full color, two sided, mailed flyers and a bunch of other bulk mail. As you drive around the county, take a good look at where most of Tony's signs are. They are in people's yards. Now take a look at where the other candidate has most of his signs, how many are on private property? Tony was asked by his neighbors to run for office, and his neighbors are supporting him. He is going door to door talking to people finding out what they want from a county commisioner, all I've seen from the other candidate is his slick bulk mail. Tony wants to do right by his neighbors, not the builders or other special interest groups. You are right, he has lived in Paulding County for a long time, this is his home, this is where his family lives. This is where his children went to school, this is where his grandchildren are currently going to school. He and his children and grandchildren will have to live with what he does during his term as a commisioner. He is not a politician, he does not have a degree in political science. He is just a citizen who was asked by other citizen's to serve his county.

And yes, I support Tony. No I have not been paid by his organization. But I do trust and respect him.

  2. I agree with what 3 kids said. If you want someone who really cares about he people of post 4, and is not beholden to any of the builders, vote for Tony Crowe.

He lives on a road that is basically one lane, part paved, part "improved" and part dirt. For those who don't know what an "improved" road is, it is tar and gravel, not a real paved road! The only reason the county doesn't just forget about the road is because the school buses travel it.

He fought (and stopped) a builder from getting the county to condem his neighbor's house and seizing the property. The house is right next store to his! It is not a pretty house and the builders didn't want prospective buyers to drive down the road and see the house. He fought the builders (again) and the county when the builders decided they wanted to cul-de-sac the road.

He was asked by concerned citizens of post 4 to run. He is not a professional politician, this will not be a stepping stone to other office. He is sick and tired of the games King Jerry played and he truely does want the best for all the residents of post 4, not just the ones who live on the north end. I have talked to Tony, I have not seen ANY of the other candidates bothering to come down our road and talk to us!

  3. I created this recipe when I had very little money, whan I first made it, I only used a pound or less of the stew meat. (Vegies where cheap, the meat wasn't.)

My dad said I should call it vegie stew with meat flavoring! I now make it with more meat, and this is that recipe, more or less...

I also like to be able to taste my spices, so I usually use more than the teaspoon of Italian seasoning mix. I cut it down since most people don't like as much spice as I do.

If I have it on hand, I use a Spicy Spaghetti mix (instead of the Italian seasoning mix) that I get from Raven's Nest Herbals (they are on-line and have a shop at the Renassainse Festival)

I don't care for onions or peppers, you could add those if you like them. Brown the meat with the onions, add the peppers during the last hour of cooking.

Now that I've totally confused you with those options...Here's the basic recipe...

    Crock Pot Stew

2 pounds lean stew meat, cut into 1" or larger cubes

    2-3 cloves garlic, mashed

Small amount of oil, to brown the meat in.

2 pounds potatoes, cut into 1/2" cubes

2 packages beef gravy or mushroom gravy mix or bullion cubes

1 teaspoon Italian spice mix (adjust to your taste)

1 large bag frozen carrot, broccoli, cauliflower mix

or 4-6 carrots thin sliced or small cubes (these take a while to cook)

    1-2 bunches broccoli

    1/2 - 1 head cauliflower

3-4 large zucchini, cut into large chunks

1 small bag frozen vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, black-eyed peas, lima beans), optional

1 cup rice or barley, optional

Brown meat in a small amount of oil and the garlic. Transfer to crockpot.

Add potatoes. If using fresh carrots, broccoli and cauliflower add at this point.

Mix gravy mix according to package direction. Pour over meat, potatoes and veggies.

Add Italian spice and garlic (if you did not brown the meat in it)

Add enough water to cover everything in the crockpot.

Cover and cook on high for 6-8 hours (time depends on how small you made your potatoes and carrot chunks)

Carrots generally take longer to cook, so cut them smaller than your potatoes.

About an hour before serving, add zucchini, rice/barley and frozen vegetables (if using instead of fresh).

I use the rice or barley to "thicken" up the stew when it looks more like soup than stew. I don't always use it.

Quantities are for my big crockpot, you may have to adjust, depending on the size of your crockpot.

I also do not measure what I add, so all quantities are an estimate!

Serve with fresh, crusty bread or cornbread.

    Makes 6-8 servings

  5. My ex-husband is an alcoholic and I can tell you from experience that you can not make an alcoholic change or give an alcoholic an incentive to change. Only the alcoholic can do this.

I can tell that you are a caring person, so don't take it personally. Alcoholics do not care about anything or anyone other than their drink. They will do and say anything to be able to continue to drink.

I suspect that you already know this.

You have already written one letter that she never responded to. She will not respond to another. Write one if you need to, but don't do it because you expect a different result, do it only because you will feel better for doing it. Up to this point, not being able to see her grandchildren and now, great grandchild has not affected her drinking, it won't change her behavior now. If she will not go into treatment, the best thing you can do is get on with your life.

That is why I have an ex, all the love that I and his family could give him was not enough to change him. All he did was take advantage of that love. Nothing was more important to him than his beer. Nothing, absolutly nothing was more important than getting his daily fix. It took me many years of heartache to finally understand that the only thing I could do was to get as far away from him as I could. I had to do it for my sake, not for his. I have no idea where he is or if he is even still alive. I know that sounds harsh and it is hard to do, but you can't change your mother, you can only change how you respond to the situation. They have to hit rock bottom and really want to change before they can change. Some never get to that point.

Morn the fact that you never had a good relationship with your mother, also accept the fact that it was not your fault and that you did all that you could do to have a good relationship with her.

For your own sake, forgive your mother for not being a good mother. You can't change her and you need to accept that and move on with your life. Don't regret what she is not capable of giving you. It is not you that is the problem and as much as you love her, since you are not the problem, you can not be the answer. Don't feel bad because you don't have a good relationship. It takes two to have a relationship and she is the one who is not capable of having a good relationship.

Also know that you are not alone in dealing with this. There are others out there who are dealing with simular situations. Find a support group or find a therapist who has experience with helping adult children of alcoholics. Step away from your emotions about your mother and take a good long look at what you have done and accomplished. Most of all, remember that your mother may not be able to give you what you want and that is not your fault. You do not and never will have the power to change her.

    The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I can not change

The courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference.

  6. I started playing that and my 9 year old daughter was out of her room yelling "Alice Cooper! School's Out!" before the intro was even finished.

He is one of her favorite artists... We have the Muppet Show on DVD and he was a guest star on one episode, she fell in love with his music on that show!

  7. If you still need someone to print the pictures for the albums, let me know. I have a good printer and can print them to any size needed.

PM me if you want any printed...

Also, Don't forget that some of the teacher's at Abney brought their students outside to watch the procession. Not all of the teacher's did that.

I have two children at the school and neither of them was outside at the fence.

I wanted to let the teacher's know that they were noticed by the crowd that had gathered at the Publix shopping center.

And that I for one, appreciated that those teachers had made that effert.

  8. I just got back from standing by the road with flag in hand for the procession.

I was at the grocery store at E. Paulding and Dallas-Acworth Highway.

There were several Scouts in unform who saluted the whole time the procession was going by.

We also saw that a bunch of the students from Abney Elementary were out at the fence, with American flags.

I am so glad that they did that. I don't know how many teachers brought their classes out or if it was the whole school.

I'll find out more when my children get home from school today.

  9. Reminds of when I was living in Gainsville, Florida, they had just passed a law that would make it legal for people to carry openly, licensed or not.

Someone went to a very busy area of town and started handing out flyers...

The flyers asked the people who read them how they felt about being approached by someone openly wearing a pistol... :o

Most of the people did a double take and said "What pistol?" :search: They never even noticed the pistol.

The person doing this was wearing t-shirt and shorts, he thought that everyone would notice the pistol!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was protesting the new law... He didn't get much support for his protest!

I got one of the flyers and just started laughing!!! (I had seen the pistol before I got the flyer!)

  10. Thank your son for serving our country, Some of us do appreciate his what he is doing.

Also good luck with getting any help from Paulding Humane. I called twice last fall and never recieved a phone call back.

I left both the home and cell phone numbers, both have voice mail.

Now we have 4 kittens we need to find homes for (3 were born today) and the new kitten's grandmother who will have another litter next month.

    Sorry for the hijack!

  11. We are in New Hope. My husband found some larger ones, but I didn't get any pictures!!

We actually had two "waves" of hail. The first wave had all the big stuff. Then while I was outside taking pictures, we got hit with another wave of much smaller hail.

I took this picture while the second wave of hail was still falling:

  12. My husband was diagnosed with a 30% hearing loss when he was about 10 years old. It took his family that long to realize that he wasn't kidding when he told them that he didn't hear them sometimes. He does not and will not wear a hearing aid. Now that he is in his 40's, I am sure his hearing has gotten worse, but he will not go in to get rechecked. He won't wear hearing aids because "They make everything louder, not just the sounds I can't hear" They do not know why he is partially deaf and he has never been "classified" as handycapped. He learned to read lips as a child and most people do not realize that he can't always hear what they are saying.

By all means go get your ears checked. Most likely its just wax build up. But if it is something more serious, I just wanted to let you know that there are people out there who are partially deaf, who get along just fine with out hearing aids (and who refuse to wear them!!!!)

  13. We have a calico who is 4 weeks old. If they can wait until the end of March, they can have her. The new owners will have to agree to getting her spayed.

We also have an orange male who will need a good home.

Their mother is also a calico, who will be getting spayed as soon as these kittens are weaned.

  14. I've got one for you!

Who gets the ring if the man pays to have your mother's diamond put into a new setting?

My diamond, his setting? Really happened, but since he was a drunk and we were married, I kept the whole ring when I divorced him...
