  1. I am not aware of any candidate that remains in theses commission races that has not taken a position that they all oppose any tax increases, A quick review of all the web sites clearly and plainly reveals that all of the candidates remain opposed to any millage rate and tax increases. To state anything to the contrary is a total fabrication.

Having said that the only thing that a voter has to rely on is the past Actions of the candidtes themselves, Here is what I have found about the history of Todd Pownall's opposition to proposed tax increases

If you have some video where Beverly has openly opposed any current or previous tax increases either at the BOC Meeting or In a public forum where taxes are being discussed I will be glad to review. Since Beverly chose not to participate in an open forum, I have concluded that she has never disavowed her ties with the previous adminstrations,And as such will continue her tax and spend menatility

Same dumb video of Todd Pownall (David Austin's campaign manager) acting like he's against an imaginary tax increase by Todd and David's opponent. Why is he silent now? Oh, because his guy is in office now. Yes folks, for those of you who didn't know, TODD POWNALL was DAVID AUSTIN'S campaign manager in 2008 when David ran. Now we're supposed to believe that TODD will, if elected, push back against David on pending mill-rate increases and tax hikes. Ooops, Todd is already 0 for 1 by taking a pass on this pending increase tomorrow.

  2. But your double standards are showing.

You defend Beverly's decision and right to specifically decline a question concerning the SPLOST at a public discussion on film, which was to be on the same primary ballot in the election in which she was running.

Yet you insist Todd come forward and specifically answer your questions concerning the proposed millage rate increase of which he will have no vote allowable in the process ?

You need to up your med dosage.ph34r.gifglare.gif

Dude, the SPLOST is not decided on by the BOC. Mill-rate increase are decided by the BOC. If you can't distinguish which is more relevant, then I can't help you.

  3. Just wait until November.ninja.gif

Right now so much of this is amusing. That is watching the various factions of the local GOP bloody up each other so badly.

I hope RR's meds hold out through tomorrow night. Otherwise he might blow a head gasket.

    If he hasn't already.drinks.gif

What are the actually factions that are fighting with each other. Can you elaborate?

  4. The reality is that he doesn't have a vote to be bought off. He will not cast a vote on the millage rate even if he is elected.

To me his statements regarding the SPLOST - an issue the Beverly so publicly ducked at the Chamber outing - shows he is straightfoward.

Anything he says, or you say or Beverly says regarding the county's plan to increase the millage rate is a non-issue in this campaign, your protestations not with standing.

    pubby

PS: You need to lobby Wayne Kirby, Don Powell, Larry Ragsdale, Tommie Graham and David Austin. It is their job and their decision. Your effort to make this an issue in this campaign is a smokescreen.

Are you serious? You don't think that commissioner candidates should be expected to take a position on pending decisions like the budget, mill-rate increases, etc.??? These are the types of decisions they will have to make if elected. However, you feel that their opinion on the SPLOST, which is voted on by the public and has nothing to do with being a commissioner, is important? You are absurd and transparent.

  5. RR:

You can bitch and you can moan but titles/aka headlines are 'mine' ... I reserve the right to edit them for accuracy and relevance.

You are asserting the right to put any headline on a topic

Do you think I would hesitate to edit a title that said ...

Those too are questions and I would certainly edit them. If, instead, you were making the rules, then to be fair I would have to let those go too.

The point is, I own the titles and I'm not going there and you should be greatful.

    Apples and oranges.

    1. Todd states he's against mill-rate increases on his website.

    2. David proposes a mill-rate increase.

    3. David pays for endorsement Ad.

    4. Todd is mum on mill-rate increase.

Someone can legitimately ask the question. Has this guy been bought off?

  6. ORIGINAL TITLE OF TOPIC BEFORE PUBBY CHANGED IT (AND HE WONDERS WHY CANDIDATES DON'T SHOW UP FOR HIS DOG AND PONY SHOWS HE CALLS A "ROUNDTABLES":

TODD POWNALL - BOUGHT AND PAID FOR?

"I am not in favor of a tax increase or millage rate increase. This means as a county we will have to look for creative solutions to accomplish goals, complete tasks, and provide county services." ... The old Todd Pownall before Chairman David Austin (who's raising the mill-rate) paid for an endorsement ad in the newspaper for him.

The below link shows Todd's non-response to the pending mill-rate increase. Fast forward to 25:55 minute mark. He acts like he's not allowed to comment but the fact is that candidates are only not allowed to speak at a formal BOC meeting. He can comment on PCOM, his webpage, through email however he wants. Of course Pownall and Barnett had no problem commenting on the SPLOST and demanding that all other candidates take a position on it. However, they're not willing to say "boo" when it comes to David Austin's pending mill-rate increase.

Great job Todd! You're the first politician who's managed to flip-flop prior to going into office! But of course you didn't have much of a choice seeing that the person raising the mill-rate is also financing your campaign through paid political ads in the paper.

  7. They do justify it right here http://www.paulding.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=471

The first few pages are pretty clear on the justifaction, You may not agree, But.......... It is explianed pretty clear to me. read it you will probably change your mind on the issue.

You do note that this revised budget was out 11 full day's before the primary election held July 20,2010 I picked up one at the Commissioners meeting.

So you agree with over-taxing us this year in order to avoid tough decisions in future years? You think a 31% reserve is not sufficient enough when all is required is a 25% reserve? Are they going to pay the taxpayers interest on this extra money they're taking above and beyond what is needed? Oh, and how can you guarantee they won't spend it between this year and future years?

Why doesn't Todd offer an opinion on this?

"I am not in favor of a tax increase or millage rate increase. This means as a county we will have to look for creative solutions to accomplish goals, complete tasks, and provide county services." ... The old Todd Pownall before Chairman David Austin (who's raising the mill-rate) paid for an endorsement ad in the newspaper for him.

  8. This is a millage rate increase that recoups some of the lost tax revenues as a result of properties being devalued, Most citizens will actually pay less taxes this year than last year.

The County as a whole will collect less taxes overall that the previous year, Have you figured your tax cut yet?

Regardless, the only thing the mill-rate accomplishes is adding 2.9 mil to the leftover EXCESS RESERVE for future years. It is not needed to meet the needs of this year's budget. I'll say it again, the county needs to justify every penny they take from tax-payers and this mill-rate increase is not necessary.

  9.

You obviously are supporting Beverly and the Shearin adminstration,

Whitey, I moved here in 2007. Voted for David Austin in 2008. Never met Jerry Shearin until Christmas of 2009 and never knew who Beverly was until she announced her candidacy. This is part of your problem. You won't allow anyone to challenge anything that goes on in this county without smearing them and connecting them into some crazy conspiracy from the past. The data speaks for itself. There is no justification to raise the County M/O Mill-rate just so we have extra excess reserve at the end of FY 2011. Regardless of who is getting a tax decrease the county still needs to justify the need for this mill-rate increase. If you can justify the below, then please do, if not then move along on to your next "whisper" campaign.

  10. It's available on line only take a few seconds, Do you need help finding it :D

Whitey, 75% of the residences went down in value. Of which I'm one. If you think that disqualifies 75% of the county from having input on the budget and the mill-rate increase, you're nuts. You have obviously lost the argument over and over and now are resorting to threatening to put my personal records on PCOM. My name is public at PauldingPundit.com and anyone can look my tax records up if they wish. Do what you want but you're actually discouraging people from participating in this forum.

  11. You never answered are your taxes going up 30%?

Probably still going down. However, now that the Bond is increasing I have to re-do the math. Of course the point is even if my taxes dropped by half, the county still has to justify the need for the half. And right now, they're raising the mill-rate on the M/0 solely to have extra excess at the end of the year. The mill-rate increase is not needed to meet the demands of the 2011 FY budget as shown below:

    CHART-v1.png

  12. Heck we are still better off than what Shearin and Beverly were proposing back in 2007 they were talking about a 248% increase in the video and they worked it down to about 31% not bad :D

Nice comeback Whitey. You had no idea that the Bond was being increased also. Maybe Austin and Pownall are keeping you in the dark for a reason. :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

  13. Where is/was Beverly????? Todd was there and so were you and you spoke at the meeting and you said nothing whatsoever about the Bond rate increase that was proposed that date to pay for the Courthouse and the greenspace,That Todd was speaking about In the video And you know that to be a fact, I can load that video and play it if you like.

You have never once spoke against any tax increase under the Shearin, Beverly regime for those entire eight years.

Maybe someone needs to post your tax records to actually show that you are paying less taxes this year than last year???????

Are you on the special tax rate???

Why would I blame Austin for raising the Bond when it was due to the inherited courthouse/greenspace debt? By the way, you know the Bond is going up on Tuesday also?

  14. You are still in error on your statement the M&O is increased by.95 of a mil the entire millage rate is not increased by 14.3% as you infer,And is really a tax cut for probably 75% of the property owners. You need to go ahead and admit you have barked up the wrong tree on this one :D

    Current Mill-Rate = 6.65

    Proposed Mill-Rate = 7.60

    Difference = .95 mil

    % Increase = .95/6.65 = 14.3%

  15. Whatzup why did you post such an untruth “14.3% property tax increase”

The county is raising the M&O portion .95 mils which equates to .95 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value or $36.10 on a home valued at $100,000, Which, may be offset by lower taxes on the remainder of the bill if your property lost value this year.

Fact is approximately 75% of all residents will actually pay less taxes this year than last year

I didn't post the TOPIC. And actually I suggested the person edit it and state that it is a 14.3% mill-rate increase. Look back in the thread and you'll see that. And why we raising taxes on 25% of residents when we already have the money to meet budget this year?
