Kelly, I never stopped worring about my kids when they first started driving and they were out making choices for themselves. I worried because they were kids, and I agree with you, sometimes the choices they make are not the best ones. I did not rest until they were home and safe. Oh heck, now my grand kids will be traveling that road.

I had hoped that it might make some folks aware of the dangers of ice on lakes and ponds. I was very concerned that kids might get out of the house without a word of caution from their parents. I actually saw some of it in my neighborhood. No, it never occurred to me that it could turn into anything else. I am heartsick for the families of these children today. Thanks BB.

Pubby, I don't recall ever seeing Neal Boortz posting in this forum. I read all of the posts in this thread and "Mr Troller" (or whoever he was) was the only one lacking in sympathy and heart felt concern for those children and their families. I truly do not know where you got anything else out of this thread or from the folks posting in it. I would respectfully disagree that it was a subject that needed to come up or be discussed in this thread. If someone thought so then they needed to start their own thread on the subject. JMO

So now you are directing traffic to jlh's thread. What is going on here?

Don't know how it happened. I post most often in the political forum. Sure didn't see a way this sad story could go that way.

I almost posted the same words earlier. I can remember being that age and doing some things that could have gotten me hurt or killed. I thought of my Grandson right away when I read this story because he is around the same age. I read somewhere that there are more boys born than girls every year but more girls survive to adulthood. The theory was (is) that boys take more risks and fewer of them live to be adults. I just thought of these boys as kids having fun and taking a little risk. Sad.

AJC is reporting that 2 of the boys have passed. Prayers for the families.

let me know where and when. I will go with you. Hands down your wits will be the victor!

Have all of his posts been so callus? I don't know when I have been so upset with a poster. These children need our prayers not smart remarks from this guy. JMO

Well I may have used all of my red - marks on him already. I lost count but I think I will try for another one!

Shame on you! Please find your rock and crawl back under it!

And if they do I hope they live to tell about it.

This info is from the AJC: The boys, ages 13 to 15, were unresponsive and unconscious. Officials said three children attempted to walk across a frozen pond and two fell through the thin ice and became trapped. The third boy was able to escape, said Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department. This is so sad. My Grandson is 15 and my heart goes out these boys and their families.

Thanks! This is useful info.!

Sure am glad you weren't visiting in Gwinnett! I know how you love breaking up the ice.

Just read an update on this and apparently 3 kids were playing on the pond and fell through the ice. One was pulled from the water and the other two were pulled from under the ice. They were in the water for about 45 minutes. The two who were under the ice are in the most serious condition after being transported to the hospital. This is why I worried about the kids playing on the ice behind my house yesterday.

I wonder how this happened? I am guessing they were on the pond and fell through the ice. I will be interested in hearing the 'rest of the story'. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/22194553/detail.html Updated: 3:49 pm EST January 9, 2010 GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Rescue crews are attempting to free three people who are apparently trapped in an icy pond, said Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. It happened at about 2:58 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Daniel Park Run. Ruthledge said two people are reported under the ice and a third person is in the middle of the icy pond and u

That was one of my worries. Hubby said "Awe let the kids have fun", sure wish it was that simple these days.

I don't have a beautiful pool like some of you guys do, but I do have a runoff area that feeds into the creek. I would guess it is 3 to 4 feet deep right now. I really worried yesterday when 4 or 5 teens came to skate on the frozen water. It always makes me nervous when they come uninvited. I feel that there is a risk of one of them getting hurt.

How bad was it? Was it very icy?

Pubby I love the picture. It is beautiful! 3 of the roads you listed are roads my SIL will have to use to get home tonight. I hope he stays put.
