  1. I have lived in this County for over 20 years and a business owner for more then 10. I have been active in community affairs, Chamber of Commerce, and many other civic and community events for most of that time. Yes, I have come to know most of those that are in "high places". You could too if you get involved in the community.

An equal number of the residents saw little to no increase in their taxes due to decreased values. ALL the tax increases were passed by a majority vote by the residents of this County. Maybe if more people had gotten involved to fight the tax increases, they may not have passed, but it's too late to complain afterwards. Even with the increases, Paulding County still has the lowest millage rate in the Metro Atlanta area.

I'm still looking for that money tree. If you find one, will you share it with me?

Decreased values you mean in this county there are homes that have decreased in value. WOW!! Ours has increased 15,000 since we moved in in 1994 the value goes up approx 5,000 per year. That is just over inflated you know it has to be. So our taxes keep going up, up, up and up and up.

  2. My advice is pawnshop; but I'm a little biased since my husband owns one. If you get to know your pawnbroker and you shop often you can always get a better deal used hands down ever time.

Um, this statement is in regards to your average pawnshop not these conglomerate chain shops.

  3. DAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Dis I couldn't resist. Hey I have grown and almost grown kids and I still understand. My 18 year old(our adult child who has been very mature from day one)and I are sitting hear having breakfast and we can actually hear the news and what have you! When my 17 year old is hear it is constantly "MOMMMMMM or MOmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy can you or can I...."  I love him to pieces though!

  4. Oscar, I'm not so sure it's about being in a hurry as much as it is about driving *fast* and thinking that you have a "right" to drive without impediment. :( Think of how many times you've had someone roar up behind you, pass you as if they had to be somewhere 10 minutes ago, then turn down the very next street or into the very next business - having saved maybe 5 SECONDS by going around you. Even during the recent gas shortage - when most people know that moderate speeds save on gas - people were still flying to get to wherever. <_<

We have become a nation of scofflaws, especially where driving is concerned. Speeding, routinely running yellow (and red) lights, yielding (as opposed to *stopping*) at stop signs, neglecting turn signals ... I see it every day.

Pedestrians are just as bad: stepping off the sidewalk in front of cars, walking on the wrong side of the road, walking IN the road ... I fume at this arrogance all the time, too.

Not to send your thread on a different tangent, but I see this as a sign that people simply aren't as concerned about other people and how their actions can affect the lives of others. We have become a selfish society.

Rio I think you hit the nail on the head! Since I was hit a few months ago, guy driving too dang fast that when I made a right hand turn he tried to avoid hitting me and didn't want to drive into on coming traffic on 92 so he hit me in the side, that people are just in too big a hurry. Lately if someone is riding my rear I just pull over and let them proceed rather than have them threaten me that they are going to hit me in the rear for ACTUALLY driving the dang speed limit. Sorry if this irrates any of you but it is worse in Paulding than anywhere else I drive. I literally HATE to drive through Paulding on my way to Cobb or Kennesaw!

  5. It was a call for nothing ... another Bush f*%K up ..... nothing got accomplished .. except a photo session. ... I don't think the Republicans take this seriously ..it's a game ...As for Obama .. not a huge supporter , but I would have taken a message from the white house also...... Bush should do the honorable thing for this country ...borrow a service revolver from the Secret Service, go to the Oval office and do what he needs to do ...then Cheney ,,, where is he by the way ..??, will have a freakin' heart attack , Ms. Pelosi will take over and the problem will be over by morning ...just my thought....this is becoming a real joke .. not to mention New Zealand and Hong Kong are in real trouble with Japan following suite. ;)

I just wanted to say that I do think our Republican Congressmen and Senators are taking this just as seriously as the Democrats. I would also like to say that I am not a Dem or a Rep. I agree foundationally with some of each side and then some foundation elements of the parties I TOTALLY disagree with. I don't think we should be Laissez Faire; I am for some government regulation on business. At this point I am thankful that if there is a "bailout" (which I disagree with) the Republicans are looking to make sure that taxpayers are not completely footing the bill.

  6. On the radio this morning they said that a guy over the fuel industry mentioned rescheduling the game and Sonny Perdue said NO WAY. This game is still ON!

I saw this on the nightly news last night. Sonny said that the "guy" doesn't represent the industry and that basically that the guy isn't being listened to. The "guy" fears that on that stretch of highway in Athens there will not be enough gas and cars will be left on the street.

  7. Can't blame media hype. It's called the moron tax, and if you are dumb enough to wait until after the storm hits to fill up on gas, you must be prepared to pay an upcharge. It's as simple as that. :D

From what I understand some folks got gas yesterday before the storm hit and the gas had gone up. We drove to KSU yesterday and gas was one price at 1:15 p.m. and then when we came back by the same area at 5:00 p.m. through Ernest Barrett Parkway and Dallas Highway and our local gas on 61 the gas had gone up and folks were waiting in line to get gas. I found it stupid and didn't want to get gas; however by the time I drive to and from KSU on Monday I would be out of gas and didn't know if there would be any gas on Monday with folks "freaking" out. So I bought gas. I can't miss class because missing class effects my grades severely.

  8. As the mother of a premature infant 18 years ago when I was 19 I voted for you. Thank you to you and the other riders and have a safe ride this year and every year to come. Thank you for all you have done in the past. March of Dimes helped in the creation of Cerfatin which my baby was given at birth to help his lungs develop....it was a "miracle" for him. Thanks to all who support the March of Dimes and all who donate and participate.

  9. My husband had died and I was still grieving so bad and begging God to let me die that it just didn't effect me the way it did most...NOT that I didn't think it was HORRIBLE!!!!!

Bless your heart you were already "numb" from grief. I hope that you have come through that point in your life and see your purpose in this life. I am so sorry that your husband is not here with you. I cannot imagine what you have or are going through but I am still very sorry for your loss.

  10. Gotcha,

tell him to invite more friends. Maybe that would make you feel better :)

It has to be hard to let go :(:(:(

Nope not hard at all to let go. I am "dying" for him to do all he should be doing right now....I would make him if I could! We heard that this place was gang infested and very dangerous; this has nothing to do with letting go in my view. I would even ask about how safe it was or is if I were to want to go.

  11. Then you should let him go.

    He is 17. Not 13.

I know you are just worried, but in one year he will be going crazy on his own if you do not let him do things on his own now. I have seen it with friends before!!

Thank you so much for your opinion. I did post above that he is not on his own in one year unless he quits school and moves out. :o :D He was held back a year in elementary school. He is also behind in other areas of responsibility; but it will all come in due time.

  12. 17. Yes.

In one year they will be off in college and more than likely not living with you. They need to learn how to handle the real world. Just my thought though. good luck

No sorry this is a teen that is more like a 16 year old. Student is a junior that does not drive. His desire to learn is very little and has never had job. We had to make the teen get applications and turn them in. No one hired him so he has never had a job. Responsibility is a BIG issue here even though we have done everything possible to encourage and push it.

  13.

Anyway...I think it would depend upon the child. Is he going with a group of friends (large one or small one)? What time(s) will they be there?

As far as I know right now only two teens. Of course they want to go before dark and stay till close.

  14. EDITTED TO ADD: We are not concerned that our son is not responsible enough to go to Six Flags. We have heard here on p.com, the news, and the rumor mill that Six Flags just isn't a good place to be. We went as kids as young as 14.

After all the things we have heard from some p.comers and elsewhere we are a bit uncertain about letting him go. What would you do if this was your child???

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Editted to add: not sure if you needed to know that this 17 year old is a white male going to 6 flags with a black male.
