Extra Money

  1. 1. Do you need some extra money?

We need to have Paulding County represented accurately in the US Congress and in the State Capital. Part of that is having an accurate count of the people in the county. We need a large pool of workers to help with the job. If you are interested in a temporary jobs which pays well go to the website www.2010uscensusjobs.gov or call 1-866-861-2010 to arrange to apply and complete a general test. Your county needs you! I look forward to meeting you. I am the US Census Recruiter for Paulding County - Joan Lanoiebusiness card.pdf

Where would this be located?

I am prepping for a job in software testing (which is great) but just found out that I will probably have to drive to the King and Queen towers at 285 & 400. This is just something I heard that could be a possibility, but with the starting pay being around 30k/yr and only a gas hog of a truck to drive, I have to wonder if I'd have any money left at the end of the week..????? It would be great to get my foot in the door, but if that took a year or more, I could go broke long before it ever happened. I can only hope the job won't be way out there. The company itself is in Kennesaw, which is fine and dandy....but I didn't realize it meant being posted over on the other side of Atlanta. Worries, worries, worries!

The ad reads Paulding County Census Takers. I am not so sure since there appears to be 6 or 7 Census Offices in Metro Atlanta and none anywhere near Paulding. However, the 2000 Census Office for Paulding was in Dalton.

From past experience, I expect the wage to be the lowest ($11.xx per hour) because Paulding is still considered Rural.

I would call the number listed and ask questions.

Thought I read 16.25, assuming it was from the Douglas office. Got a tip from a family member about this a couple of months ago. Look and understand what is stated on the website. Although great temp/interim job, it does come with some stips. Most importantly, the hiring process will not begin until spring 2010

Paulding currently is under $11.__/hr but that is apparently changing to $13.__ very, very soon. And the hiring process has begun. Most of the jobs don't start until March but the hiring process has already begun.

My bad wording "Most hiring will take place during the spring of 2010"

Not to be negative, but honestly how and what does the census do???? Our Gov't can't track down how many illegals or unemployed folks there are on US soil.

Douglas, Cobb, Cherokee, Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Clayton are Urban counties, thus the higher wage.

Are the jobs at the State Capitol?

Also I have a census question. My Mom says that she has heard that the Census people will be going door to door to get the count. She lives in Cobb and is widowed. She does not answer the door to anyone she does not know. Is this how they are getting the count? Thanks!

The Census forms are mailed to individuals and they are suppose to be returned. If they do not receive them back that is when I understand that the actual door to door process begins. All Census workers will have a white badge with Red White and Blue coloring and will have their signature on it. I hope this answers your question. I am glad to see such interest. Let me give some more input. Yes JohnnyJ, the pay currently is according to the website $11.-- in the "rural areas" which Paulding is concidered. It is higher, in other areas and it is my understand that the rate will be going up after the first. I applied in late November and was offered a job in early December. The earlier you make application the sooner they MAY call you. There is no guarantee, just increased possibility. Most jobs are for short periods of times.

To the issue of the importance of the Census and whether it really makes a difference and is it required. Here is a quote from the US Census Bureau site.

"The official U.S. Census is described in Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution of the United States. It calls for an actual enumeration of the people every ten years, to be used for apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives among the states. The first official Census was conducted in 1790 under Thomas Jefferson, who was the Secretary of State. That census, taken by U.S. marshals on horseback, counted 3.9 million inhabitants. Since that time, the decennial Census has been conducted every ten years, generally on April 1 in years ending in a zero."

Concerning the issue of questions related to financial...direct quote from the US Census Bureau website:

"Besides providing the basis for congressional redistricting, Census data are used in many other ways. Since 1975, the Census Bureau has had responsibility to produce small-area population data needed to redraw state legislative and congressional districts. Other important uses of Census data include the distribution of funds for government programs such as Medicaid; planning the right locations for schools, roads, and other public facilities; helping real estate agents and potential residents learn about a neighborhood; and identifying trends over time that can help predict future needs. Most Census data are available for many levels of geography, including states, counties, cities and towns, ZIP codes, census tracts and blocks, and much more."

It will most likely miss some people, but it is required to count ALL people.

I hope I have been helpful and not too winded!!! Please call the Census # to schedule to make an application at 1-866-861-2010. I look forward to meeting many of you at the application site.

Also, the jobs are all local (in Paulding currently for Paulding residents). The "local" (kind of a funny thing) for Paulding is Dalton, GA...it is based on the distribution of the counties and the # of people needed. Joan Lanoie - US Census Recruiting Assistant - Paulding County

I don't think I'd accept any job going door to door. I value my life too much for that.

Besides, there's probably more skeletons in those closets to be found out since they were going to be so tightly wound to ACORN.

I can't understand why the Feds don't leverage the US Postal Service to help with the Census. They already pay them, and they know where everyone lives. rolleyes.gif

Thanks Joan. I'll tell my Mama to make sure she returns her paperwork as soon as she gets it.

I thought that at first when I began writing up Siding Claims for people with defective siding. Truth be told, I found out that I LOVED it, and made some very good friends along the way. I was never "pushy" the way my trainer wanted me to be. (I didn't want to get shot neither). But just leaving them a card was usually good enough, and the next thing you know, I'm getting called from most of those who didn't have time, at the time I knocked on their door. People aren't as bad as you might think (unless you watch too much news...like I did). It's all a matter of being respectful of someone's time, and most of all, being as friendly as possible. ;)

Subby, I enjoyed doing the Census in 2000 and you are right, they train you how to proceed and common sense is important. Being kind and respectful is helpful. Understanding the importance of it makes it easier to do. Also, I want to thank you for repairing my lawn mower over the summer. You did a great job. Maybe I will see you at one of my test sites soon. Thanks, JOAN

Joan, thanks a million!!!! I am glad your mower worked out for you....and rest easy, because I tend to "overdo" my work on these things...I just love it!

Whether it be mowers, or door to door....I personally love meeting people. Some are great, some not so great, but the good ones far outweigh the bad ones. ;)

I hope so --- my sister-in-law in Paulding applied for an inside clerical job with the census --- she passed the test but recently she was told that if she was contacted, she would have to go to Dalton every day, which is where the district office is. She wouldn't be allowed to go to the marietta or Douglasville offcie, because each office hires folks from within their district.

Testing tomorrow! Perhaps after this census, Paulding will be considered a part of the urban area, especially considering that it has more residents than Douglas...Paulding Co QuickFacts

I look forward to seeing many of you at 9:00 AM at the Chamber of Commerce - no matter the weather! The Chamber may be closed but we are supposed to still proceed with the application process. Be prepared to be there approximately 2 hours! Thanks everyone for talking and spreading the word. You are right, we need to make sure EVERYONE is counted in Paulding County so we are fairly represented in the State Capital and in the US Congress. (Not to mention appropriations for our district.)

Oh...the application process is on Friday 1/8/10. There are others scheduled...call 1-866-861-2010 to find out when the next "available" place with openings is in the Paulding County.

I thought I posted this morning...US Census was closing all test sites; however, we did proceed with the one at the Chamber and had 8 people show up. And "ImRight" you are correct! Using common sense is imperitive. I look forward to seeing everyone of you who would like a "temporary/part-time" job! Thanks, Joan - US Census Recruiting Assistant - Paulding County

New info about timing of jobs and actual census forms ....

"In March, the vast majority of the population will receive their questionnaires at their homes,

most of them through the Postal Service. April 1 is census day. We ask everybody to return their

forms by April 1. And we hope everyone does so. But if they don’t, starting in May, and from

May through July, we’ll have a large set of people going throughout the country knocking on the

doors of those folks who weren’t able to return their questionnaires, and we’ll do interviews with

them in a face-to-face way."

I want to remind everyone that there are jobs being filled now and the only way to get the early jobs is to apply NOW! Call 1-866-861-2010 to schedule a day to apply and take a 30 minute test at a location here in Paulding. I look forward to seeing many of you. WE NEED PAULDING COUNTED!!! Your help is critical to the Census for Paulding.

I passed the test awhile back, but haven't heard anything. Should I call the 1-800 number or the Dalton office?

Thanks!
