  2. Well . . . er . . . uhummm . . .

    I am a believer first & a Baptist second.

"Baptist" is only a descritive term of my core faith to distinguish it from others. Like I said before, I am Baptist because my conscience won't allow me to be anything else. No other denomination places the Priesthood of the Believer which such a high priority; the freedom of each individual to act according his or her own conscience within the framework of orthodoxy; no other denomination holds as highly as Baptists that the church & state should be completely separate because we fought for & won the 1st Amendment; no other denomination allows each cooperative body to be completely autonomous when deciding its own matters.

Thus, I am Baptist because because the New Testament teaches that my personal relationship with Christ is exactly that --- a personal relationship --- & I am free, both civilly & ecclesiastically, to voluntarily align myself with a body of like-minded believers, free from any heirarchy control, be it church or state. And I am free to withdraw from that fellowship & align myself with another at any time.

I am His & belong to None Other. Only by being a Baptist can my conscience claim to be free of any other control but His.

Ok. I feel better now. My sermonette is finished. We may now rush to the resturants before the Pentecostals break from their service. :D

  4. Be loving and consistent.

You don't have to "fix-it" for them,,,,,here's a hint,,,,you can't "fix-it" for them. There were so many folks that loved us so much, they were hurting so much for us, they wanted to stop our pain. It can't be stopped that way. Don't try to "fix-it".

Each individual person grieves differently, yet our experience is that even though different, there are extraordinary similarities. Persons grieving experience every emotion known, at different and even random times. Emotional "events" can occur at the strangest places.

One of ours was while walking through an innocent place, Pet-Smart. The most innocent item sparked an "event" because of the strength of memories and the association of the person to the item.

The most significant memories are of those friends who:

said nothing and simply hugged us,,,,,

said, "I love you",,,and nothing more,,,,,

did something kind and totally unexpected,,,,,

called and asked if we needed anything right now or today,,,,

came to our house and took out our trash,,,believe it or not someone did this,,

another person came and cut our grass and trimmed our bushes,,,,,

many sent cards and said they were praying for us,,,,

sent us a card with a story of our daughter,,,,

I am convinved that these simple acts of compassion and kindness will be blessed by God x 100. Even though we have tried, we will never be able to acknowledge every person and act. We will or already have forgotten some of the specifics, but God will not.

Our attitude toward others will never be the same either. The impact of good folks can't be measured.

Understand that in many cases, you are the one uncomfortable in talking about the lost person. If you are uncomfortable but stiil feel the desire to speak with a survivor,,,,,here's a great approach,,,,look them in the eyes and sincerely ask them to tell you about their loved one. Believe it or not, it's possible that they want to tell you, because at this time, their loved one is the most important thing in their lives.

Most importantly, do everything and say everything, expecting nothing in return, but out of a pure and caring motive. In the initial weeks and months after a loss, they may not be rational and may not be able to deal with even the most simple conversation. Just "love on them".

  5. How many Paulding member do not follow this bible verse??

    Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

I can think of four right off the top of my head. Anyone care to guess??

We all struggle with that one. It's one of the most basic challenges for Christianity to put others before our own selfish choices.

Tossing bad intentions toward the "four" above is kind of similar to me asking you about the last time you drove down the interstate. The 70 mph speed limit signs are spaced periodically to remind you to slow down. Even though you know it's 70 mph, you still seem to fail to stay under it from time to time.

God places signs like Phil 2:3 all through the Bible to remind us of what standard we are to continue to reach toward. Hebrews 12:14 says that we are to PURSUE peace and holiness. Pursue means to continually strive toward something.

Was that enough reaction??? I didn't want to go overboard, but didn't want to fall short either.

    :D

  6. We went to West Ridge Church today and I was jsut wondering if I was attending service with any of you today?  I also have a cpl of questions about the church.  We really enjoyed the service and I am hoping to go back next week.  We have been looking for a church like this closer to us, so maybe we have finally found a home.

Really glad you came,,,,,,the staff and leadership are exactly who they appear to be. Very transparent and very Godly. Mrs. RR (Barbwire Bluebonnet) has done a number of the ladies things and has enjoyed and learned from them all.

  7. If you were at the 9:15 service ... so was I :D  I really enjoyed the worship service ... I like our regular band, but yesterday with just the grand piano was a  very nice change up. That is one of the things I like about WRC, they change things around ... but not just for the sake of changeing ... the change, whether temporary or long term, is for a reason.

:o TBAR, you heathen ...  :o You skipped church :o    Just Kidding ... isn't it wonderful that you attend a church that does not beat you up for that ... :p

    :o

TBAR,,,,,I'm with Tazman,,,you heathen. You get what you deserve though. You missed some of the most amazing singing harmony worship in years. And Brian shared another Amy dating story,,sort of,,,you missed it. I hope you got something done.

    :o

  8. I would certainly disagree.

The King Jim is based on the TR & the Masoretic Text. These had few mss to base the translation upon & there have since been 1000s of fragments & mss found that are older than the TR or Masoretic Text.

And, yes, a 400 year old language that is no longer spoken means one ends up having to translate Shakespeare before even beginning an exegesis.

The NIV is a great translation. The NLT is more dynamic but is a good balance.

But it comes down to this: the King Jim is written in a language that we no longer speak. The Word of God is meant to be studied & understood --- giving people, especially kids, something written in Shakespearian language is, IMHO, a sin. Why? Because it is making the Word too difficult to understand; it's not based on the best mss; & there are much better translations based on older mss & translated in current language.

Excellent explanation TBAR. I personally use the NAS (New American Standard). It's as easy to read as NIV and a little more formal (feeling) than the NLT. But most importantly on every account , the NAS is the closest direct parallel to the original text(s) in form and structure.

    I appreciate you bro'
