  1. Just wondering how long is the "average" lifespan for a cat

That depends on whether or not you have children. Statistically the life span of a cat drops by 37% if a cat is introduced into a environment with children and 47% if a dog is present.

Disclaimer: These statistics have in no way been verified or approved; however it is the view of the panel (i.e. Jamie) that the information is correct. Although not exactly verifiable.

  2. If I had a choice in the matter...Britney Spears or Paris Hilton. Mr. Reaper can decide from there.

Ok...Ok.. That was kind of cold, but I'm betting it will be someone younger. Any takers?

  3. Now for the record...all this is a mute point...it is not coming back. Feelip, there has been an emergency action declared...it is called double sessions...yeah the VERY THING so many of you said were nothing more than scare tactics and would not happen!! Wow, I have not seen a nay-sayer yet admit that they were wrong (not about your votes) but, that you actually were wrong in some of your views on what would actually happen if it failed.

Spin...the only spin is going to be our and the kids "heads spinning" as kids get radically shuffled around in redistricting to balance out enrollment and the impact that double sessions is going to have on our kids, the families and the quality of education.

Would you like to discuss this further "iknow a little".. Its an old thread, but someone needed to bring this back up.

  4. I heard on a newscast that they are going to videotape it and release it to the public... ;)

However archaic the thought of televising an execution sounds, there are many folks within Iraq that need to see it. Ignorance often begets mistrust of information. When they see with their own eyes the demise of Sadaam they can believe it.

I remember reading an article shortly after the death of Sadaam’s son. The people at that time didn’t believe he was dead and still feared him and retaliation.

I don't believe we need to see it here. In my mind it serves no purpose. The attrocities were against his own people. JMHO..

  5. A 401k plan stands the same chance as the Social Security plan. It's a matter of trusting a privately owned corporation v. trusting our government. I still believe in our government, even though I'm surprised by their activities, sometimes.

This impacts my life and my future. No one but me and my family care about what happens to me. You believe in the government paying out because you're getting paid. I'm 28 years old and I'm not willing to trust that anyone other than myself take care of me in the future. I truly wish I could invest the money taken out for SSI. I know my return alone would be more than SSI pays out.

The problem is the idiots that would take the retirement money and go buy a new car and a pair of sneakers, instead of planning for the future. BTW...those are the same folks that go buy a brand new pickup truck instead of getting medical insurance. "I can't afford insurance"....NO *@.

  6. You misrepresented the group's argument against the game. Look at the very next sentence in the article:

Their claim is not only that it is "Xian" but that it is violent & gives a "convert or die" theology.

If I wanted to misrepresent the group I wouldn't have provided the link for you to read. I just think it hilarious that a "Defend the Constitution" advocacy Group has tried to stop a video game from making it to the public. Something about suppression comes to mind.

You can choose how you wish to interpret the premise of the game, but its obvious that based on CEO's statement that I provided and the write up provided from PluggedIn that emphasis is being placed on certain parts of the Presidents statement as to take it out of context. Much like my choosing to leave out the sentence, that you so proudly pointed out, created a perception that was based on a true statement but not entirely forthcoming.

The CEO explicitly stated there is no "convert or die" strategy in the game as per the quote I provided. The president stated per your on quote

the game actually is pacifist because players lose "spirit points" every time they gun down nonbelievers rather than convert them
. Read the write up I attached from PluggedIN.
there are no missions in the game aimed at causing a war or killing others. You train up soldiers only to defend your people when Carpathia starts sending in the big guns.

The premise of the game is self preservation and conversion with emphasis placed on the latter, which is evident in how the game is scored. Do you have an option to kill an enemy combatant? Yes, but you lose points. Do you have an option to convert and enemy combatant? Yes, but to remain politically correct it's better to shoot the SOB. There are neutral characters and then there are militant anti-Christian characters. You defend yourself from the militant anti-Christian, unless you can convert him. This is what is being taken out of context. These groups are trying to create the perception that Christians in the game have started a Jihad against anyone not Christian. As if the non-Christian is placed at the end of a gun and told to convert or die and that is not the case.

Anyway I'm done defending this...Its a stupid video game that is being mischaracterized to push the "Christian extremism" is just a bad a "Muslim extremism". From their solid gold pulpits, Right Wingers in their mega-churches are marketing this evil video game to their little jihadists. LOL Give me a break...

I'm full of run on and on sentences today.

  7. Wasn't Focus on the Family one of the groups that wanted to boycott Disney? You know the company with Nemo and Snow White?

Possibly....I don't follow their articles or campaigns.

An interesting thing about the campaign against this game... The initial campaign to prevent sales in stores was orchestrated by an advocacy group called "Campaign to Defend the Constitution". Their claim is "the game is violently pro-Christian". So much for defending the constitution or perhaps their agenda concerns more than just the constitution? yahoo news

  8. What is not true? The CEO said, "There is no blood, gore or gratuitous violence of any kind". Gratuitous implies without justification. Any killing within the premise of the game appears to be for self preservation. The president said, " players lose "spirit points" every time they gun down nonbelievers". Do we see a trend here or is it just..."Be Killed or Convert".

Doesn't matter to me.....I believe Tim's eschatology is worth horse puckey anyway.

BTW here is a write up from Focus on the Family..

    Turn or Burn?

A pretty significant question remains, though. How do peace and prayer go hand in hand with tanks, attack choppers and street battles? Despite what's been "reported," your Left Behind units do not easily form into some kind of roving militia intent on killing non-believers. In fact, there are no missions in the game aimed at causing a war or killing others. You train up soldiers only to defend your people when Carpathia starts sending in the big guns.

Yes, you're offered sniper rifles, gun turrets, even tanks and helicopters. And there are points at which a gun battle is necessary to avoid a massacre. (When this happens, there's no gore. Units fall to the ground and fade away.) But if you go in guns blazing, nine times out of 10 you fail. It quickly becomes clear that the strongest weapons in your arsenal are your top-level missionaries and worship leaders. It's easier to convert a group of enemies than it is to shoot them.

Still, post-Rapture warfare is integral to the game, as it is in the Left Behind books and movies. And it's worth noting that fighting back is nowhere described in Scripture. Will Christians really be called to militarize, then? Dr. Tim LaHaye, co-author of the best-selling book series on which the game is based, told Plugged In Online that this fictionalized depiction in the books, movies and now video games is a representation "of the self preservation instinct of the much-persecuted saints during the Tribulation." He believes, "When they are converted they will have their humanitarian instinct inspired by the Holy Spirit to be a restraining influence on the Antichrist's minions much as believers are today. We assume Christians will oppose the Antichrist and his forces to convey the gospel when astronomical numbers of souls will come to faith during that chaotic period." He proffered 2 Thessalonians 2:7 and Revelation 7:9-16 as support.

    Context is always important.

  9. The controversy behind the game is nothing but hype generated by those who oppose the game. The game does not have a "convert or die" strategy nor does it have "any blood, gore or gratuitous violence of any kind" per Left Behind Games CEO. Odd that so much hype has been placed on a "Christian" game.

Left Behind Games CEO Troy Lyndon responded to the protest with a statement of his own.

"Those throwing rocks at our game simply haven't played it through," Lyndon said. "There is no 'convert or die' in the game. There is no blood, gore or gratuitous violence of any kind. … Left Behind Games' desire is to have a positive impact on an industry that traditionally has had a dark influence on gamers and the world."

I haven't played the game and more than likely I never will. I like games with blood, gore and gratuitous violence. The media outlets were happy to push the story that put the game in a negative light, but has anyone read any rebuttals from Left Behind Games from those same outlets? Just wondering... Seems like a good way to try to balance the thought that there is comparative extremism when in fact there isn’t.

And this is what they call progress?

  11. Matthew 18:15-17

15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

If one is open about sin and everyone is a witness, then how do we reconcile this? There does appear to be a time in the church where a line is drawn in the sand.

    Just curious..

  12. I will the dissenting opinion, I guess. I like it, but it is a bit more difficult to digest for me, if I eat too much. We even use ground lamb and beef together for meat loaf and, sometimes, burgers. I love gyros, too. What we don't eat is pork. You would have to see what blood cells look like under a microscope after eating pork to understand.

I do love Gyros.....A little place on the Marietta square had pretty good Gyros. Well there and the Marietta Diner. Yummmy.

  13. I have a dilemma and I am curious if people who believe in God have ever thought about it before.

Supposedly God has a perfect unchanging plan for the world. But theists attempt to change the direction of the world through various actions. So this does not make sense to me. Voting for example, do you believe that God's will would NOT be fulfilled if you do NOT vote? I would think that God's will would be fulfilled if you do something OR if you do nothing, after all, what could oppose God? How do you view this and has it ever been something you have thought about before?

Not being a Zionist or dispensationalist I can’t answer this question for those who I believe it was intended. I think voting would be a poor example. When it comes to voting I vote based upon my Christian values not trying to usher in the “end-time”. Being a Theist, I know that my actions cannot usurp the will of God. You are likely to receive some fairly lively responses…Good Question.

Outside of the voting aspect the same question could be applied to Red Heifer.

  14. No skin off my back....Good by Chucky.

I think they should have been paid as they were contracted to provide the services by the state.

If someone wants to file against the State fine, but services were rendered. For a judge to require the service provider to return the funds to the state after honoring the contract and meeting all expectations just seems wrong.
