  1. No one had the foresight to address technologys intrusion into our life. Yes, we need to expand privacy rights to cover our electronic footprint, but framing constitutional grey areas as political partisanship this early in the game is just Pubby being a democrat. You cannot in your wisdom (or lack thereof) say which way any SCOTUS will vote on constitutional rights to privacy.

An informative article though... Thank you.

  2. Personally, I support putting everyone who crosses the border illegally into detention centers.

    As I stated in 2005....

At this point I would vote for anyone who would make securing the border top priority. Forget towing the party lines....America's security is of greater importance to me. At this point all efforts to secure this nation are based on whats in the headlines and not needs to be done. Of course the previous adminstration was no different...I hope we start learning.

It's time that Republicans and Democrats fulfill their promises of a secure border to the citizens of our nation. Fix the problem as promised and the rest resolves itself.

It's everyone's problem but only one political party has the solution. The party that holds the keys to all three branches of gov't can't get it done? If they can't get it done and they hold all the keys then may be they shouldn't be holding all of the keys.

You're absolutely correct. Trump is using this to his advantage. If he gets his way, it will be fixed. Just not in a way that I believe Republicans or Democrats want.

  4. There were governing rules at play when the tax cut bill passed. Selectively circumventing the rules is not an excuse. Let Trump issue the executive order and let the legislation iron itself out. No succeeding Democratic President would undo such an executive order. I hear more excuses why things can't be done and it's the Democrats fault even though the Democrats have no power. Whatever happened to the Republicans being the party of personal responsibility? Of course I jest. The unicorn is a Republican mascot.

I'm by no means am an expert when it comes procedural rules, but with respect to the Senate and the Tax plan, your looking at two different scenarios (Apples to oranges) not an example of selectively circumventing the rules.

BTW...It isn't just the democrats fault, it's falls on everyone's shoulders and right now the media outrage is nothing more than political grandstanding.

The recent tax cut bill passed the Senate 51-48 last December. Democratic votes weren't needed then and they aren't needed now. All they need do is implement the nuclear option. Clearly the Republicans don't want the problem fixed or they would fix it and use the accomplishment to promote themselves during the midterms.

You would be correct if Cruz's bill had already been approved by the house and sent to the Senate. There are governing rules at play.

  6. Jamie, as far as I know, trump could change his policy with a pen without congressional approval. If you know something different please share.

He very well could, but he is pushing for and was elected on getting congress to fix our border crisis and immigration laws. If we learned anything from Obama, it is that what one president can do with the stroke of a pen, the next can undo. We don't need temporary fixes. We need republicans and democrats to come together and fix the issue. If children are important enough to force everyone into a room to discuss the issues, then we might want to get on it.

  7. This was not an issue (of any great proportion except some cherry picked photos but not nearly what it has grown into) before trump decided to separate children from their parents so why did it blow up? I wonder if there is something else going on and this is just another diversion tactic.

No one wants these people released into this country without the proper requirements being met. Again, I wonder what is motivating these people to try and cross illegally when they know what the consequences are. Why aren’t we hearing more about this side of the story? Some are saying they want asylum because they are being prosecuted, I would like to have more info.

Just a comment about those seeking asylum...After their asylum review, 80% (4 out of 5) of those seeking asylum are not legitimate. That number came from Homeland Sec.

What does it matter if Democrats reject it? Push the legislation through or force them to try and filibuster it. Democrats hold no power. It seems the Republicans are afraid do go it alone because if it blows up in their face they can only point fingers at themselves. Well, if they are so sure, pass the legislation and fix the problem.

One would think that, but frankly, it just isn't that simple. The senate isn't anything like the house, which requires a simple majority. The senate requires 60 votes to even bring legislation to the floor to be discussed, amended and then voted on. Republicans at the present control (51) seats. So without democrat support, there is no vote to bring it to the floor. I'm not a rules junkie. If someone knows something different, by all means elaborate.

  9. It’s all about politics. More illegals, more democratic voters. I mean, look how horrible the republicans are trying to secure our borders and calling MS-13 “animals”. They must have a blue wave mid term so whatever it takes.

It isn't just the democrats. Albeit for different reasons, make no mistake about it, the republicans aren't passing the legislation to fix the big picture.

Senate Democrats reject GOP legislative fix to stop family separations

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/senate-democrats-reject-gop-legislative-fix-to-stop-family-separations

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz, both Republicans of Texas, have proposed legislation that would allow children to remain at detention centers with their parents and would speed up adjudication with the help of additional immigration judges.

Lawmakers said the measure could be attached to a spending bill up for a Senate vote this week, or it could be considered as a separate measure.

“We hope to reach out to the Democrats to see if we can get a result,” McConnell said. “Which means making a law and not get into some sparring match back and forth that leads to no conclusion.”

But Senate Democratic leaders say they won’t go along with the approach.

  11. I went to the game. For me and my wife it was an touching moment. Just to be there at that time with the President of the United States and singing the national anthem with 77,000 other Americans. It was a beautiful unifying moment that we will never forget.
