  1. Thanks all... pitiful turnout, only 184 out of almost 1900 registered voters. Congrats to Mrs. Devey, I wish her the best of luck!
  2. It is election day for the City of Hiram and State of Georgia. Hiram residents, please go to the Community Center and cast your ballot for Mayor, then go vote in the Presidential preference poll. Your choice matters!
  3. Kwood - I agree, but add that the residential area of the "old" town needs attention as well. I think that bringing sewer, improving the water system, and putting in sidewalks will improve the entire community and increase the possibilities of drawing more business and people to the downtown area. Everyone, remember to vote at the Hiram Community Center, today until 5pm, then Tuesday, March 6 from 7am-7pm!
  4. You are correct that you have to vote in two places. The State sets the election dates. If the office vacancy occurs within so many days of a standard election, then it has to coincide with the scheduled election.
  5. Don't forget the City of Hiram Mayoral election at the Hiram Community Center if you live inside the City limits! Tuesday-Friday 8-5
  6. A bump for the start of Early Elections for the Mayor's race. All voting for the city election is at the Hiram Community Center. The city elections are non-partisan! All registered voters are invited. The polls are open from 8am-5pm, tomorrow through Friday March 2. They will then be open on March 6 from 7am-7pm for regular voting.
  7. LOL... I haven't thought about Tiny Tim in a long time! Most folks on here probably don't know who he is.
  8. Just use the cities in the search, both Hiram and Dallas. Unfortunately, most of our current office holders are on the "late/non filer" list. As to the other candidate, Doris Devey also qualified to run. I don't know much about her. I met her at two of the Council meetings, and she seems to be a nice person. To see candidate reports, you have to search by name. Our deadlines were 15 days after qualifying for the Personal Financial Disclosure, which was Feb 9, and then 15 days before the election for the first Campaign Finance Disclosure, which was Feb 20. I don't know how long after the de
  9. The State of Georgia requires that all candidates for public office, and current office holders, file Campaign Disclosure and Personal Financial Disclosure reports. There are clearly published requirements concerning who and when to file. The current system only places a monetary fine on the candidate if they file late, or even if they don't file at all. Do you think this is sufficient? Link to search reports
  10. Make sure that I get elected as Mayor in Hiram, and we can do some inter-municipality information exchange!
  11. Congrats WineGuy! You'll rock the G.S.W. this time too. LOL!
  12. Just a reminder that all voting in the Special Election for the office of Mayor in the City of Hiram on March 6, and the early voting, will be held at the Hiram Community Center. The address is 217 Main Street, behind the administrative offices. March 6 is also the Presidential Preference Primary. You will also have to go to your normal polling location to vote in that important election. I would obviously appreciate your support and vote, but no matter who you vote for, please VOTE! If you are not registered, please contact Paulding County Bd of Elections.
  13. http://www.google.co...eorgia&t=m&z=15 The shaded areas are city limits. The cities of Dallas and Hiram do get a small share of the tax revenue from all sales tax collected in the county. I am not aware of the current percentages, but they are negotiated periodically and do change somewhat. The same is true for the SPLOST taxes collected. The cities get a small portion which has to be divided and used for capital improvements the same as the county percentages. These percentages are based on the actual language that was on the SPLOST ballot when passed. There are no city prop
  14. I have decided to seek the office of Mayor in the City of Hiram. This did not come without a great deal of discussion, thoughts, and prayers. I feel that I can be a positive influence on the direction that the City takes from here. The primary things I want people to know about me are: I am a lifelong resident of Paulding County. A 1976 graduate of Paulding County High School. I have lived in Hiram for the last 21 years, and had lived within the City for many years while growing up. This is my home, and I have a vested interest in seeing improvement in quality of life in our
