  1. The idea that I have most often proposed is eliminating the huge tax exemption given to Delta on fuel, which was imposed immediately post-9/11. Delta is not at risk for relocating, however, because there is not another airport that has the capacity or capability to hold it. Delta is firmly planted in the Atlanta area. I am firm supporter on a macro level to corporate tax exemptions, but I am opposed to unnecessary ones staying in place. As far as demand for a nursing program goes, if we have a brand new medical corridor developing there will be demand for a program here. Keep saying nay if
  2. Thanks for bringing all of this up FM. First of all, teachers were not just laid off because of local property tax revenue issues. The state actually put the burden back on the counties and property owners by funding local school boards the equivalent of 10 days pay per teacher in the district. This way, our legislators could say that they didn't furlough any teachers or lay them off. They basically washed their hands clean of the situation and put the blame on local school boards. The counties that layed off the fewest employees were counties that had higher industrial and commercial tax
  3. Car insurance is slightly different. First of all, one chooses to drive, if you choose not to drive, you don't have to purchase insurance. Also, the laws are only for liability insurance, which protects others from negligence. On the surface the situations look similar, but not completely.
  4. No one should be forced to purchase anything against their will and I do not agree with the current health care reform. Plain and simple.
  5. Teachers are not effective unless they feel appreciated and valued. We find ways to stop teacher furloughs and keep teachers from going to work everyday with a dread that they are the next to be laid off. A furlough basically equates to a type of tax increase on teachers. A furloughed teacher has to do the same amount of work to teach the same amount of material, but is getting paid less, which is the basic essence of a tax. Teacher layoffs have increased class sizes over capacity. Classrooms that were designed to accomodate 25 students now hold 35 and not all students have text book. Th
  6. I said we should allow student visas for people wanting to attend college. I too am against amnesty and believe people should go through legal means to attend.
  7. Great question, and it is a huge issue right now. You are exactly right, that the in-state tuition only covers a small portion of the total expense of that student attending a public college. The out-of-state tuition is formulated to cover the real cost of that student attending the same public university. I DO NOT think that any student that is not a resident of Georgia, much less of the US should be given in-state tuition rates. Our state's taxpayers should not subsidize the remainder of the cost of the student. I do however think that we should allow student visas to students that do w
  8. That is the problem with the impact fee situation. Very few developers actually had to pay for infrastructure improvements. They worry about the area of roads at the entrance to their subdivision and the rest was either forgotten about or was put upon our local tax payers to improve. As far as the sewer situation, this is precisely why our counties' sewer system is over burdened as it is. Our local sewer system can not handle the volume because of the lack of sewer infrastructure improvements to the system as a whole. I will say that not all developers have abused the system of developmen
  9. This year, Paulding County has a real choice in whom to elect to represent District 19 in the Georgia House of Representatives. We can choose to elect a leader with a vision—who understands the problems and proposes real, workable solutions. Or we can choose to elect someone who campaigns on empty rhetoric, and instead relies on party affiliation to cruise to victory. By now, I feel I have become a familiar face on Paulding.com. I have openly and honestly answered questions posed to me, in stark contrast to my opponent, who has yet to appear in an open forum, despite the fact that two have
  10. Charlie is a good man! Why don't you ask him about me?
  11. Charlie Watts, who is a friend of mine.
  12. I do not support the progressive Democrats in the slightest as I have said numerous times. As far as Brooks goes he is a deputy caucus director at the Georgia House Democratic Caucus and is my liaison at the Caucus. He is neither an advisor nor an assistant.
  13. I'll answer this one. While I do not have a PhD, I have been teaching survey level history classes at UWG for the last year while working on my graduate degree. A "real" professor usually has a PhD. However, I have been responsible for all aspects of teaching at the college level. I took this semester off from both teaching and classes to work on the campaign full time. I have worked around the southeast as an archaeologist and land surveyor since I graduated from UGA and went back to school 2 years ago to pursue my graduate degree. I hope this clears up any confusion. WA
  14. NG, He admitted it in this post. I was never told that he was posting on this board. If this is what you will hold against me, then I never had a chance to earn your support. I will however continue to answer your questions as I have done all questions asked to me by anyone on this board. I have discussed issues and given my stance on anything that has been requested. I enjoy interacting with the voters in all of Paulding County.
  15. I was never a member or involved. You can ask again if you would like though.
  16. I will go ahead and answer this for myself. In 2008, I was a land surveying project manager for the Bentley-Craton Group. I was not a student and not involved with Students for Obama. At the time, I had not met my campaign manager (who is not Mr. Politics BTW). We can keep going around with these question that have little bearing on who the most qualified candidate for the District 19 House seat. As I promised on here from the beginning of this campaign, I will try to answer all questions presented to me on this board.
  17. District 19 map NJ beat me to it
  18. I agree, it was a great day and a well planned event to celebrate the people who put their lives on the line everyday to help the citizens of the county! Not to mention the weather was beautiful as well!
  19. Do I agree with everything our President does? No. Do I support him and hope that he moderates his decisions, Yes. I supported Bush during his presidency, because he was my President.
  20. I will be more than happy to address this, as I have addressed all questions directed directly at me in this election cycle. First of all the PDA or Progressive Democrats of America are a fringe group that most Democrats in Georgia do not identify with including myself. Few Democrats are members of the PDA just as few Republicans are members of any far right wing group. All it takes is a simple look at the elementary style of their webpage to know that they are not a serious group of people. But none the less, I will address all of these issues reported on the PDA webpage. 1. End War
  21. There is a lot more involved with the Hickory Creek reservoir. They ran into extremely large archaeological sites in the flood plain along Hickory Log Creek that had to be excavated. I was on the team of archaeologists that did the work there. I also did the archaeological work on the area of the Richland Creek site and can assure you that we do not have the same problems that they had. I am not saying that is the only problem with the Hickory Log site, but it did cost a great deal of money to get that worked around.
  22. That is precisely why we need the reservoir now. The contract with Cobb is for real, but what happens when that contract ends? Or when Cobb has to start withdrawing less from Allatoona? That is what we have to be planning for.
  23. Thank you for your concerns! When I was a land surveyor in the county, I noticed the same issues that you bring up and our vacant subdivisions have become a serious issue that drives the value of all of our property down. As far as you asking if I would do the same thing that so many politicians do once they are elected, I am a man of integrity and have always lived my life accordingly. Growing up in a small South Georgia town was very influential in the way I think and in the manner is which I hold myself accountable for my actions on a daily basis. However, I would also ask that we all
  24. Question 1 I will not provide names of developers in the county. They are not on trial here and neither am I. The fact remains that impact fees were circumnavigated in Paulding County and the burden was placed back on homeowners for funding area improvements. Names are not consequential Question 2 The SPLOST III money should have been used to build classrooms and other facilities directly related to academics rather than gyms and auditoriums. At the time it was a more pressing matter in my opinion to get students out of trailer classes and into normal classrooms than to undertake th
  25. As per the press release my campaign put forth, I have spoken with Mrs. Braddock regarding a series of three debates. Her response to me was that she will be busy and out of town often between now and the election and she might be able to do something in October, but was not sure that her schedule would allow it. I know that she has declined a debate held by the Chamber of Commerce at their monthly luncheon on October 7th. There is another debate planned by the Paulding Business Association for October 14, but I am not sure if she has responded to that offer. The reality of the matter i
