you do realize the splost passing is going to mean nothing different when it takes effect compared to today or tommorow or next week. The education splost has been around for a while. The vote on it was to keep it not implement it. I for one am glad that it passed. Without it our education system would be in a lot more trouble. Thank you to all those who voted for the education splost

The calender further shows lack of foresight and leadership in the county office. It carries from the board office down through the schools.
I have voiced my opinion on some of these issues to a few people at the board office and I heard of no discussion or change.
that is a very bold statement! Care to share with us why you seem to think this? I know many of the people in leadership roles at the county office and they are all very good leaders and very good at what they do.

I apologize it gets frustrating cause all people seem to want to do on here is complain about things and not do anything about it.

JSYK... it doesn't exactly work like that. Say Sept 1, receives the most votes, yet the BOE decides (for whatever reason, financial..etc) that Sept 1 is not in the best interest of Paulding county, they look at what was voted on, and then they vote for what they think best.
I would venture to guess, if we did a poll that was private, most teachers would not be showing happy with an August 1 start date. We do not get out until June 5, then post planning then back in July for pre-planning.
I will say it is a done deal and no matter what we or anyone thinks it is happening like this. I will deal with it. Do I love it? No, but sometimes you just deal with what you are dealt.
In this instance the BOE gave 3 options for the calander and put it out there for everyone, parents, teachers, employees, etc to vote on. They wanted the publics opinion. The BOE went with the option that received the most votes
Don't give me "if we had a poll that was private" stuff. The vote for the 3 calanders were annonymous. Teachers just like everyone else had the ability to vote annonymously just like I did!

of all the teachers I have talked to about the breaks is this. Most people think that kids are crazy the week before a break and it takes a while to get them back on track after a break. There are only 2 breaks in the year that the kids get a little wild. Christmas break and last week of school. The kids seem refreshed and work harder after the breaks. This year will just seem like a short summer cause it will be. Next summer won't be as bad. It averages out to a break about every 5-7 weeks (not including the 3 weeks between thanksgiving and xmas). As someone who works in the school system It don't bother me one way or the other when the kids start or don't start. I just think the government is trying to put their hands into to many things they shouldn't (but thats another story for another topic)
As far as local business like 6 flags eh don't bother me. I'm not a big fan of 6 flags and its honestly not in the safest of areas anyways.

Sorry if I have come across like an a$$. It just gets on my nerves when people do nothing but complain about something but do nothing to try and fix the problem or are proactive enough to make it known how they feel except on a message board after the fact. Sadly we vote for these people and rely on them to make the choices for us. Some times we have to let our board of education members know how we feel much like we do with our government politicians.
I have always been of the belief that if you don't take the time to vote or express your opinion to the people that make the choices then you can't complain when something happens you don't agree with. If anyone out there think they can do it better by all means sign up and run for office.
You can't please all of the people all of the time but you can please some of the people some of the time.

There was a link that you could send in your comments to the board on the calenders when you voted. You could also have gone to your Board member in your district and let them be aware of your issues/concerns about the calender. You can't complain when you don't vote or make your voice heard.

That would be great except for the fact that we were given three choices which all sucked as far as timing. It is insane to allow children to exert themselves in a gym that has no a/c in August. It is also fiscally irresponsible to pay the a/c bill when the alternative is available and has always worked for us in the past.
I am not a fan of legislation making the call for local government/school systems but I think it's about time someone put a stop to this nonsense. Bring on the law if that's what it's gonna take!
Here, here! I think the continuous weekly breaks are disruptive.
First off most high schools have year round things going on in their schools from football practice to band practice to basketball baseball and so on. High School sports has become a year round (even during the summer) event. Your going to complain about a gym having no a/c in august. Its usually just as hot in september. and oh yeah the football players are out in the heat in full pads in august. Don't hear you complaining about that. If all the choices sucked did you go to the board meeting and make your voice heard? Or do you just want to sit on here and complain and not do anything about it?
All the teachers I have talked to are excited about the breaks. The kids come back from these breaks refreshed and work harder.

I'm for this legislation. The local school boards obviously don't listen to the teachers or parents.
That entire comment is absurd and rediculous. The Paulding BOE put the calenders to vote. They had 3 options for everyone to look at and choose from. People voted and the board went with the calender that was picked by the voting. So before you go blasting your school board by saying they don't listen please make sure that you know all the facts.
To the idiot lawmaker in Marietta he has no right to dictate when school starts and when it doesn't. That is the local school boards decision! Maybe he should be trying to think of ways to turn around the economy and help create jobs instead of interfering with the local school boards.

the paulding.gov website is still showing 1/30 precincts and has been for a long time. Any updates on the sheriff race?

I don't see how they could give it to Gulledge. He is .42% away from being in a run off. He has lost a lot of ground since starting off strong. That last precint could pull him down below the 50% mark.

Bruce Harris is agood man and sheriff. Why don't they just leave him alone. I think his wife and step-daughter pissed someone off in that office. That doesn't mean he is not doing his job. GIVE HIM A BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't he have to be in the office to be doing his job? Not at home cutting the yard.

My room mate's dog lost her battle with diabetes 6 months ago. It was very hard on her and has taken her a while to get over her. We went Monday afternoon up to the Paulding County Humaine Society to look at dogs and see what they had. My room mate found one that she wanted. It was a very emotional day for her as this was the first time she had been to look for a new dog since she lost hers. We brought him home that day and he is doing very well. He is very happy and so is my room mate. We have an appointment next tuesday with Dr. Judy to get him shots and checked out. We gave him a bath last night (actually I took pictures my room mate gave the bath). We are having a great time with our new addition and just wanted to say thank you to all the people up at PCHS. I forget what kind of dog he is but his name was Snoopy(that is what the card said) We have since renamed him Nicky and he seems very happy. He doesn't like a leash but he is getting better and better every time we use it. He has had only 1 accident in the house(which is great)
Thank you again to everyone we love him so much and we will give him a very happy and loving home. He will be very spoiled!!!!!!!

None of those pertain to me. I clean my apartment and do the laundry for me and my room mate. I do the dishes and cook half the time during the week. All my room mate does is sleep and go to work and cook when I don't. I do everything else. I am a male and my room mate is female. I even clean her room and bathroom when I clean the apartment once a week.

It is a lot faster to check out at Target then it is at WalMart. Atleast at Target they do get people to open up lanes to assist when the check out lanes are backed up. I know more but can't/won't get into it!

I have a complaint!!!
I gave my time, money and clothes, and hard work to help out the victims of Hurricane Katrina and never got a thank you from anyone effected by the Hurricane.

I gave knowing I would probably never recieve a thank you. I gave cause it was something I felt I needed to do. If the people who gave money wanted something in return for their contribution they shouldn't have given. YOU DID IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS!!!!!

Thanks they are really awesome pictures. I was unable to attend the funeral for Josh but when I saw these pictures yesteray I got a sobering glimsp of reality. I will try to get them uploaded if I can find a site to upload them to for free and I will post them on here for all to see.

Just have one thing to say? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? I become inactive due to real life issues and the internet world goes to hell in a hand basket! Lets all do this. Take a deep breath get up from the computer go outside for a walk on the silver comet trail and while you are taking that walk think really hard about this one thing!

My life hasn't exactly been peachy the past 2 years but I am not complaining. If you do feel strongly then take it to pm with the person/people involved.

A friend of mine who lives in western pennsylvania went to the war on terror memorial yesterday on his lunch break and found Josh's name on one of the pillar's. He thought about me when he saw his name and took several pictures for me. I have got the pictures printed out and am wanting to get them to Tommy and Karen. I am in need of an address or a phone number so I can get them the pictures. If anyone knows them or can get them my phone number please let me know. This is very important to me.

Got the notice when I turned 18 in **COUGH**1997**COUGH** about a month before. Had 30 before birthday and 30 days after to get the registration card sent in. I believe I still have my Selective service regisration card they sent me back in my wallet. If it came down to it I would enlist instead of get drafted. Enlisting you get to somewhat choose your job. Drafting they give you a job!!!

Raised some hell in BHE back in the day(12 years ago) I used to roam the subdivsion all the time. Ask Erin she knows. We never caused trouble....much. Well atleast not to the extent that you guys have mentioned that is going on now. Sorry these kids are being stupid!
