  3. Go back to post #1 - last line of what I quoted you: "The policy is to not name names or give vehicle descriptions."

Vehicle descriptions are the issue. One will never hear a name coming over non encrypted radio channel.

If I hear that a "red chevy passenger car" is involved in an accident that later turns out to involve a fatality at the scene, I don't expect my post to be edited.

go back and read it again. some we edit. depends on the situation.

if the vehicle description is a red 2004 mustange convertible with a white top and a green left fender and a tag that says BORDKID, then we would edit that because it is specific enough to identify the person.

we know we won't hear names of fatalities over the scanner. but psoters talking about it do give names. that is what we edit. when a poster names the deceased and we have not gotten confirm from the SO or the family, we don't allow the name.

general descriptions from the scanner we don't edit. specific descriptions that identify we do edit.

  4. Clarifying the paulding.com policy about scanner.

Just like the scanner, paulding.com edits out names and vehicle descriptions until we get official word.

Just like people on the telephone, rumors start flying. Paulding.com is no different. The mods edit that information out.

Someone above said that the vehicle descriptiosn were posted before the family was notified. 100% not true. No vehicle descritions were in the post that I saw until long after the family was notified.

The point is that we try to be sensitive just like in real life. Just like in real life, people want to know and people start talking. Often people make guesses. Rumors start. That is real world. Hope everyone will be mindful. Mods stay on this but we can't be everywhere.

The policy is to not name names or give vehicle descriptions. The point being made is already being done.

  5. Dear Good Citizens of Mayberry.

Due to recent events, paulding.com is instituting a new Standard Operating Procedure for moderation. Good citizens often don't agree with deputies. We know that. Our deputies try to be even handed. We do make mistakes. We admit it.

Pubby is very busy. He does not have time to intervene in petty squabbles. He can't get news to us and be a Jr High counselor too. At the same time, deputies do want to be fair and see the need to have an appeals process.

Beginning immediately, any appeals of moderation need to be made directly to me, Sheriff Andy Taylor. Pubby will help with the big stuff but any appeals will be referred to my desk for processing.

You can make your case. The deputy will make the other side.

Case will then be closed and never brought up again.

We moderators are all volunteer, and are not possibly capable of reading every post. We have jobs, families, and responsibilities away from the board. We do the best we know how. Although we, as moderators have personal opinions about everything we read, it is our job to remove our personal bias from any actions we take. There have been times when I have sent messages to other members, and asked for their advice about a particular issue. The opinions of other members are valuable in making a determination of judgement to moderate a thread or a member, or to let the thread die, as most will do on their own when people get tired of reading the crap that the few are capable of tossing around.

Moderation is not an exact science. It is a conglomerate of judgement, input, experience, and environment, and sometimes, other unclassifiable factors. What constitutes an acceptable post in any given thread, may or may not be acceptable in another thread. I think you can understand what I am saying.

Constant, continuous moderation of every post is simply not possible. Consistent application of the rules is possible, and that is what we strive to do, but as publisher says: "Perfection eludes us all". We rely on members such as you to report issues to us that we do not, or have not seen. If you don't tell us, we don't know about it. We appreciate the input from the board membership, and encourage you, and others to continue using the report button. You may not ever see any action that is taken, or any immediate results of the action, but trust me: Every reported post is read and examined and taken seriously.

Thank you for your input. Feel free to share anytime, and thank you for listening to me.

  6. Don't count out Auburn yet.

    WAR EAGLES!

(Forgive my bias but moderators are human too.)

All mods are human. Some just don't have any sense in their head.

    GO YOU SILVER BRITCHES!
