  1. All right, y'all...

As Pubby suggested earlier, this isn't the appropriate forum to point fingers or assign blame. The only facts we have are that a young man is in a hospital, the victim of a poor choice. Our only aim here should be to encourage his healing. This young man has caused enough damage to himself and his family; let's not inadvertently cause any more.

    Carry on.

  2. Aww...now this is what I like to see. Intelligent discussion of sensitive topics that doesn't end in a disagreement. All sides of the debate have learned from each other and learned about themselves, and everyone has resolved their own conflicts between themselves civilly and maturely.

I knew you could do it! (And now that I know that, I'm gonna hold you to it next time!)

    Thanks, everyone! :D

  3. Enough. This thread had fallen off topic. Either get it back on topic - discussion of the movie in and of itself - or it will be closed.

    Pubby here adding something:

This topic is about the movie, not members here on the site.

It is improper and off-topic to use the topic to attack others personally.

The offending posts were excised and the topic may either die or continue but it there is additional discussion of the excised subtopic, Andy may give Barn an UZI with a full clip. He's already given him a bullet or two.

That kind of behavior and tit4tat is demeaning, disturbing and definitely against the rules.

  4. Paulding.com members:

It has come to our attention that many of you may be confused - nay, unaware - of what happens when you click the p_report.gif button on a post. Gather 'round children, and I shall give a brief lesson (as Ms. Crump is, um, well she doesn't exist...yet).

When you click the "report" button, p_report.gif it automatically sends an email message to each of the moderators assigned to that forum. So, if you report a post in General Countywide News, the email is sent to Pubby, Barney, Gomer, and myself. This email message alerts us to a potentially volatile post: one which, in your opinion, violates the rules. An example would be an excessively angry or negative post directed at a member or group of members, excessive cursing, or unsubstantiated information about individuals within the county.

When you click p_report.gif you will also be asked to give a brief explanation for why you are reporting the post. You may be as detailed or brief as you wish, but the more detail you provide, the better we understand your dissatisfaction with the post or member.

Reported posts are very helpful to us. Even with six moderators now, there are still posts or threads that we will overlook or perhaps be undecided about whether it violates the rules. By reporting a post, you draw our attention it, ensuring that we will see it and further encouraging us to take action.

This is not a guarantee that we will edit or remove the post or discipline anyone. It is, however, just one step toward those outcomes.

Reporting posts is not the same as replying to them. No one sees your report except for the moderators of the forum in which the post originates. The member who authored the post does not and cannot see what you've said, so do not reply to them with a report.

If you have something you wish to say to the poster privately, you may PM or email them...and you should NOT use the p_report.gif A POST button!

Any questions? If not, class dismissed! If you have questions, please post them here so that we may answer them.

    SPECIAL BONUS OFFER

By posting here and simply stating that you have read these instructions, understand the utility and use of the p_report.gif THIS POST button and promise to use the p_report.gif button thoughtfully and appropriately...well we're going to give you a Mayberry point -- a (-1) -- and that is a good thing.

    Andy

  5. And just after I gave you another point! I see how it is, Joe. I've got my eye on you.

No, really, I'm glad someone thinks we're doing a good job! Thanks, everyone!

Et maintenant, qui parle en français? B)

  6. Good people of Mayberry,

It is my pleasure to announce to you that we have a new Deputy on staff! Boss Hogg (Pubby came up with that one - ain't he creative? ;) ) will be protecting and serving in the Political Forum with the full support of the Mayberry Sheriff's Department behind him.

Please join me in welcoming him to the force.

    Andy

  7. Y'all beat me to it!

Yes, Aunt Bea is in town, upholding the law in a couple of forums. Don't let her name fool you: she's an official deputy and imbued with all moderating powers thereunto appertaining.

    Welcome, Aunt Bea!

(And we're still taking applications for deputies, for those who are interested.)

  8. Good people of Mayberry:

I'm pleased to announce that we now have two new Deputies on the force! Deputy Barney Fife and Deputy Gomer Pyle will be walking the beat in General Countywide News and Internet Café, with my full support as well as that of the Mayberry Sheriff's Department. Please help me welcome them to the force on their first day in town.

    Good luck to my Deputies!

    Sheriff Taylor

(P.S. - Until we hire a Deputy for the Political Forum, Pubby will be filling that capacity. We're still accepting applications, so apply now!)

  9. Samford:

Since your reply was so clever to the forum misplacement, I'll leave it to Sheriff Taylor to move it ... I won't.

I can move things? Okay, let me see if I can figure this out...where to move it to...Internet Café? Sounds good...hmm...

Edited to add: haha! Success! I LOVE this job.

  10. Well...I come in from a long, hard day of fishin' and what do I see? People askin' to be locked up. Y'all must've taken lessons from Otis. :p

Thus far, I haven't seen any reason to lock anyone up. The little number meter is working, I just haven't needed to use it yet. Of course, if you'd like your number to change, I could have that arranged. :D

  11. do we know who these moderators are? Gosh i hope it is somebody that does not have problem with bad spelling? or somebody that i have ticked off

Well, I know who I am, and Pubby knows who I am, but no one else does. I am a regular member here, though. :D

Pubby would like for moderators to remain anonymous - once we get our Deputies their new moderator identities (Barney, Otis, etc.), that will be separate from their "regular" member name. So, no one will know who's Barney and who's Otis, except for us on the force.

    Does that make sense?

And no, I don't have a problem with bad spelling. That ain't against the law. ;)
